I also saw a guy synthesize Lu Shang's, but he synthesized them because he broke them. What fish can break that rod on the boat?

a lot of fish can break it. its not a large fish pole. on the boat you want to use a composite rod. theres a repeatable quest in rabao to repair it so you never have to worry about losing it but if your carpentry is high enough you can safely repair it yourself. The big point is it has a super high succes rate and theres a few "legendary" fish that you need it to have any chance at.

i thought to get the rod you had to hand in the tenth thousand fish ,not actually hand in 10k of them (10k of moat carp is more expensive than just selling the fish at ah and buying the rod)

The NPC you hand into gives you 100gil per moat carp. So that would be 1,000,000gil + the rod, for completing the quest.

Furthermore, I have not seen a lu shang's rod up for sale in the AH. I would be curious to see how much it goes for.

Just checked the AH in Jeuno on Siren and the last one that sold a couple of days ago went for 2.5 million.

I registered because I wanted to tell you guys that the rod is in fact breakable. The boat ride from selbina to mhaura has very big fish that not even composite or mithran can catch.

I am a level 53 fisherman. yes... 53. it's all i do. i don't fight, i don't level up, i don't do ANYTHING but fish. it takes a long time to get your skill up but i think that if you fish for fish that are close to your fishing level you level up faster.

here's a site with information of what fish to catch and what bait to use and where. It has helped me a lot.

              http://www.fishermanrods.net/database_e.cfm

You can ONLY get the lu shang rod from the quest, (which means you actually have to turn in 10,000 moat carp.. yes... 10,000!) Or you can Buy it, but I have talked to japanese players and they tell me that they will only sell it for about 5-7 million gil.

I have turned in 2370 Moat Carps at the moment, and im on my way to getting this. Oh yes, you better believe I will be getting this very soon. I just started last week. But I had 250k to buy moat carps so... that jump started my quest. TEE HEE!

              ta ta. have fun fishing.

Me and my measly 307 moat carps.

Rogelio, what did you do for skill from 25 to 50?
Just to compare with what I have planned (which isn't much, I plan on what to catch next only, cliffing atm... it's pretty nice skill and some gil too.)

In regards to handing in Sardines for Windurst fame...

Eh, I wouldn't worry about it to be honest. I handed in 100 whilst attempting to get enough fame for my Teleport: Mea quest, and discovered that you get VERY little (if any at all) fame as a result (both before and after I was at the same fame level  ).

Yeah i was on a boat with a person making lu shang fishing rods. Knowing that they were only expensive rods i asked how much they were and he replied 5 mil. Didnt expect it to be that high but that is what he told me

That wasn't my question, I asked what YOU did, not what I can fish.

I looked at what fish to fish in different locations and I checked to see weather my rod was going to break trying to fish them. I also looked at the fish's level cap and I just fished a lot. that's it. not that hard.

Well, so have I so far, it's fun how almost noone is willing to share what they themselves did. You ask what THEY did and always this link to osakana, hey no offense but I know what it is and I use it.
I just think it would be fun knowing what others did. They prolly mostly skilled up on gold carps anyway.

Oh and by the way, here's a much better link to give everyone, that's what I use to find what to fish next:
                              http://www.brianbunge.com/files/fishingguild.txt

Maybe you didn't notice though but even reading these lists some spots suck, fish just doesn't bite enough outside the optimal times giving very poor skill compared to something else.

1140 moat carps handed in after a total of 72 hours and 90k in profits still waiting for more moat carps in the AH.

Edit: Made the post cs001x safe!

Uh, well, people link those databases because what you can fish depends entirely on what area you're in (unless you're willing to make the hour's trip to another fishing spot). In addition, what some people are fishing for skill ups may not be something that *YOU* want to do for skillups (many people catch cheval salmon and ronfraure (sp?) trout from 15-25, I myself did/am doing Dark Bass and Giant Catfish from 15-33).

Anyway, if you want to know what I'm doing, I'm working on Dark Bass/Giant Catfish (because you can catch both w/ Mithran/Minnow I don't have to change lures everytime a new moon phase pops up) in W. Sarutabaruta lake until I hit 33 or so, then I have to figure out what small and large fish I can catch in a spot that's close to Windurst that both use the same bait... quite a hassle just to escape swapping out rods/bait all the time and to be close to the Fishing guild.

Oh and by the way, here's a much better link to give everyone, that's what I use to find what to fish next:

Someone had already given you that link in the previous page... ;P. Anyway, that chart is very good for determining skillups and what to fish but not necessarily *WHERE* to fish (since fish depend on not only salt and fresh water, but areas... and in fact, it's possible that fish may be caught in entirely different water sources (lakes or rivers) in the SAME area).

Maybe you didn't notice though but even reading these lists some spots suck, fish just doesn't bite enough outside the optimal times giving very poor skill compared to something else.

That's why you use the skillup chart in conjunction w/ the Osakana database to cross-reference what fish you need to catch for skill-ups, and if those fish are actually w/in a reasonable distance.
