They are the swirling floating things that hang out in various zones during weather conditions. (Rain=water, sandstrorm=Earth, etc)
They are very tough, usually 5-10 levels higher than all the other mobs in the area, plus they have extremely high physical defence, so have a BLM with an assortment of spells, especially the one that the element is weak to.FFXIV: ARR - Leviathan Server - 50 Bard, 47 Dragoon, 50 All crafts, 48 Botany, 48 Miner

No, when you use a cluster of crystals, you end up with a stack of 12 crystals of the same type. (Ie, using an Air Cluster will get you 12 air crystals.)Originally posted by 711rocks
oh ok ill wait then thanks, whats it do tho?? does throwing them increse your change of snything a HQ item, or an item period??
It doesn't affect high quality items in any way, it's merely packaging.Queen of Crafting: Cloth: 82, Gold: 51, Alchemy: 60, Fishing: 35, etc

Also, since its a item drop, rather then a crystal drop, you can get them even if the elemental is to weak to be worthwhile.Tiberion: Bastokan (Rank 10) on Asura Tiamet Trouncer

I've soloed two Air Elementals as a RDM - the most important thing is to silence them before they silence you (if you can - they have ridiculous resistance even if they check "easy prey"). Unfortunately I didn't have Enblizzard, but Enthunder worked pretty well. Ordinary physical attacks did very low damage, though, so melee classes probably won't be able to solo elementals very effectively.Defeated: Maat, Divine Might, Fenrir, Kirin, Cactrot Rapido, Xolotl, Diabolos Prime, Kurrea, 9/10 Dynamis Bosses (missing Tav), Promathia, Proto-Ultima, Proto-Omega, 4 Jailers, Apocalypse Nigh, 6/6 Nyzul Bosses

As a 30thf/1rng I was dealing 6-10 damage per hit on the elementals in the Highlands, La Theine, and Tahrongi. They're supposed to be lvl 18-20 in these areas but didn't really put up much of a fight.FFXI Info // Nevik Hume/M :: BST14/WHM25 :: THF50/WAR31 :: NIN27/RNG22/MNK19/RDM15 // Nevik's Journal

I'm hesitant to put this up where it's seen so easily, especially considering how "camped" elementals are already, but...
well, what the heck, people should know.
Big reason for hunting Elementals is that you are guaranteed at least one cluster drop when you defeat one.
