  • Woodworking path

I just recently hit 20 woodworking and started looking at the higher end recipes.. it seems all of the items get a lot harder to make and require harder to find items.

With all the cost involved in getting these, I would like to know what kinds of items did you higher skilled woodworkers make to get from 20 to wherever you are now? Looking for most cost efficient way to get there

For now, my plan is to use the maple sugar recipe to get to about 25, haven't decided on a path further down yet.

Ditto. I just hit level 19 woodworking. I plan on being a ranger, so I definitely want to be able to make silver arrows and a powerbow +1 before I even get started. Funny thing is, I'm level 16 white mage and level 9 red mage. HA!

          A few thoughts

1). I have found that Maple Sugar will take you up TO 21 skill, but not past it. At least, I tried it at around 23 skill I think, and it did nothing for me. Nothing! bleh.

2). Blink ninjitsu bags(Shihei) are not cheap to make, depending on your server's economy. They require black ink, and black ink requires those stupid shellfish(Nebsomethins) that cost around 18k for a stack of 12 on Midgardsormr. Black ink is never cheap, as result.

I have 35 woodworking currently and I have made a LOT of mistakes with this skill, so I hope to help you avoid them.

          So . . .

20-21 woodworking: maple sugar. Try selling the sugar in windurst unless you have some use for it yourself.

21-23: I think I got this working on a combination of yew lumber and yew wands? I don't quite remember, but it didn't take my skill past 23 or so.

23-25: elm lumberARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH. I can't recommend this, really. If you can find ANY other way to get through this skill range, do it. Actually here are some ideas:

Spear: don't believe the lies you see about Spears being a level 31 synth. They're level 26-28. You might be able to do these at 23 if you can accept maybe 33-40% failure rates until you get 24-25 woodworking skill. Of course, you also need blacksmithing skill. Just for the sake of being practical, you need enough blacksmithing skill to smelt your own iron ingots.

Book Holder: Another skill 26-28 synth listed as a 31 synth on many sites. This one is cheaper to make than spears and requires no other skills. However, you may or may not find much of a market for these on your servers, seeing as how they aren't terribly useful for anything other than decorative purposes. I was able to sell these at a small profit though(took me about 600 gil to make them, sold em for 800 gil . . . too bad I made them at 31 skill only to discover that I could not gain skill off them at all).

26-31: Spears or Book Holders, see above. You'll have to sell these to players to recover your money.

31-36: ??? My guess is Chestnut Sabots or Chestnut Wands. Neither one may actually get you to 36. I made Chestnut Wands between around 29-31 and did quite well with them success/failure-wise, but I lost money on them, so . . . I can't really recommend the Wands due to the monetary loss involved, unless you've hit 31 skill and you're desperate for something that requires only Woodworking. That being said, Chestnut Sabots might still be better, even for a single-skill crafter. It all depends on the market on your server, really. I don't know how far you can take Sabots as I have never done them myself, and I have never worked with Chestnut Wands past skill 31. There is ONE other item I'd recommend at this skill level for those of you who:

          a). like risky crafting
b). are wealthy to start(100k+ of disposable gil to invest)
c). Have 22+ blacksmithing, preferably about twice that

I don't think many of you in this thread fit that description, so I'll keep my mouth shut, as I am still using this synth for my own gain *) I'll tell you more later once I'm finished with it(ha ha). For the time being, if you hit 31 woodworking, give Chestnut Sabots or Wands a shot. The market conditions on your server may make these synths profitable, who knows?

What is the recipe for Book Holders though? Is it the same thing as "Taru Taru Desk"?

Also which site did you get the recipe from?

            Thank you!

bookholders, as i remember, are wind+1 lauan+1 yew.

on my server, when synthing shihei you can break even selling them in jeuno, and they go quick.

apart from maple sugars and bookholders (which i sold back to vendors - at a loss, but the cost was worth the speed of levelling) i stuck to mainly arrows and shihei when i could, 'cos at most points you can break even or prehaps make a profit.

best thing to do is spam 'infromation on synthesis materials' note down all the recipes, and check AH/vendors for the cost of materials, and how much you can sell them back for - then choose the least painful recipe.

                Book Holder Recipe

I tried both of the following:

                1 x wind crystal
                1 x lauan lumber
                1 x yew lumber

                And

                1 x wind crystal
                1 x lauan log
                1 x yew log

                Neither would synthesis.

Can anyone confirm the recipe for book holders?

                Thanks,

                    Woodworking 26-30

If you are a ranger making silver arrows from 26-30 (maybe 31, i am not there yet) is very good as you can craft your own arrows. The recipe is:

1 x silver arrow heads (2.6k per stack from AH)
1 x Yagudo Fletching (500g per stack from AH)
1 x Ash Lumber (about 1.8k per stack from woodworking guild)
1 x Earth Crystal (300g per stack from AH)

makes 33 silver arrows. That is about 1.2k per stack. Cheaper than buying them at 1.7k per stack and you get nice skill increases from 26-29, slows a bit from 29+.

                    Hope this helps.

                      Silver Arrows

One more thing... if you use the recipe i listed above you only need skill in woodworking. No other guild is required.

sorry >_< dunno why i ever thought it was wind. it's deffinately earth. earth crystal bonds, wind crystal carves.

                        earth+lauan lumber+yew lumber should work.

btw, are you sure you're high enough to craft this? if you are then talking to the head woodworker in san will tell you what you can synth, and this would be in his recipe list.

                          Woodworking 31+

                          Voodoo,

Thanks, I got to 31 last night making bookholders. But didnt get any skill increases from them or silver arrows past lvl 31.

I will try Chestnut sabots tonight. Chestnut lumber is very expensive though. Does anyone have a recipe list of the least expensive things to make to get from 31 to 45 woodworking? I want to get to 45 so i can start making elemental arrows. I do not have any skill in other guilds. I have about 100k i can spend to get to lvl 45.

just talk to ucyille (or whatever he's called) at the woodworking shop, asking for information on synthesis materials. spam this many times til he's thrown out a lot of recipes and then find out which is cheapest to guild. that's what i did.

                              I did 31-35 woodworking on . . . lances.

Am I insane? Yes. Did I make a profit off this? yes *)

                              mua ha ha

lances should take you up to about 40 skill. I think?
