ive started fishing of the docks at Selbina using a Fastwater Rod and a Sabiki Rig, and all i catch is Bastore Sardines...

i caught 3 stacks in a couple of hours and put them on the AH for 400 each (i checked the price history) and they havent sold in the past 4 days...

what i need to know is once my skill improves will i be able to get better fish using that setup?

My best advice for a starting fisher, is to buy a tarutaru rod and a sabiki rig and go to selbina. Fish in there by the water for a few hours. Even if you don't catch anything, skill still rises. So stick with it till about lvl 4 or so, then you should eally start hauling in quus. That's what I did at least =/

i did 1-4 doing casual saltwater fishing with a carbon rod + sabiki rig. (got bastore/pamtam kelp/quus/a fat greedie by chance)

did ok, watch moon phases for best time fishing (full and new moon work wonders on my fishing).

leveled skill 4-9 in about 3-4 hours of fishing, and 48 moat carp, using mithran rod and little worms and insect balls at the moat in sandoria, but i've had similar success in windurst too.

I do not use any fishing gear, cept the rod and bait, and I have not noticed any vast increase in success/skill ups/catches when I have the Image Support from Fishing guild.

I can't agree that insect balls are the only way to catch moat carp at lower fishing levels, cause when i did the 4-9 session, i noticed no difference in worms or balls, both caught moat carp just as easily, and as we all know, worms are cheaper.

3 to 8gil per worm at most shops that carry them, do the math, 200 gil for a stack of 12 at the AH isn't worth it. i prefer worms, cost effciency as compared to insect balls. however when my cooking skill is better and i can skill up making insect balls, i will switch to using them exclusively, since they are more focused on moat carp catches while little worms can still nab crap like crayfish and whatnot.

        just my 2c.

Insect ball seems to attract more moat carp in my experience but overall it may be a loss. Unless it's a good moon cycle i probably go through 3 stacks of insect (900g) for a stack of moat carp. It may be more cost effective to go with little worms, i agree.

Can someone tell me the exact ingredients for the insect ball synthesis? What approximate level of cooking skill is required? Also, after going through about a dozen rods, what's the best rod to use for catching moat carp?
