does anybody know how to become higher than amateur fishing? when you are amateur you are stuck at skill level 10. i've read you need to take a test at a fishing guild...but i went to the one in selbina and could find nobody, or no place to take the test. can anyone help me out?

I think it is only the guild in windhurst.

You go to port windhurst zone. By the fishing people, who raise skill, and near the little vendor lady is a Mithra. This mithra normally says something like "My pappy says the world is 80 percent ocean", or something. Its not the slutty acting mithra on the end of the dock, sticking out her bum and swishing it around while she throws bait (though I bet you stand there for a bit.. noticing her..)

If you have 8 skill or more, instead she'll say you can give her a Moat Carp to increase in rank. So just toss her a moat carp. You can catch them fast even with a little worm in the other windhurst zones (but not this port one)
If in a hurry, sometimes the bait selling taru there has a moat carp in stock.

    Now you are a Recruit!

Is your Fishing (or any other Trade) skill capped per level as well or can you theoretically go all the way to max fishing skill at level 1?

Capped till you get the promotion. Just like the rest of the guilds.

          Ahh, awesome...thanks.

And the promotions are just based on what your current skill level is, not your class level?

So what I said is fundamentally correct, you could go to max trade skill at class level 1?

            AH, yes

its capped purely by your fishing skill. First rank exam is moat carp at 8 skill, to progress much higher than 10. I think next one is at 18 or something.

So if you wanted to you could run around as a level one warrior or whatever, with super high fishing skill and be filthy rich.
