Re: General Discussion
Score indeed! My wife is a wonderful person, she came up with an incredible idea. We need a date night during the week, and her parents can't get enough of Avalene, so... We are dropping Avalene off at the grandparents house Saturday morning and picking her up Sunday. I should be good to go for all upcoming D&D sessions except for the March16th since my parents will be in town that weekend.

Re: General Discussion
Caught this in the latest update notes for Roll20, relevant to Yyg:
You can now change the name of a token even if it is linked to a Character. So you can link all your "Bear" enemies to one parent "Bear" character for their base attributes, but change the token name to "Bear 1", "Bear 2", "Bear 3", etc.

Re: General Discussion
Yyg: Paypal'd some money to you, sorry about the delay (since it was promised on Friday).
Paypal is awesome and lets me send cash in US Dollars, and the conversion charge was only 5 cents which is less than a penny, which is really nice to know.

Re: General Discussion
Has Mezlo played around with roll 20 yet? Before the next session we could organise some form of gathering to help familiarise him with the system so that we can hit the ground running in the next session.

Re: General Discussion
I never script NPCs. I always wing it. Aside from bullet points of things I know I need them to tell you about, everything else is ad-hoc. LRN2RPOriginally posted by Firewind View PostYou also have at least some form of script or know ahead of time what an NPC will be saying

And thank you Armando. I got the monies. Anyone else who feels like donating is free to do so. Armando pitched 4.00. I'll be keeping all funds donated this way in my Paypal until needed... so it can be more or less a common fund for the campaign. Otherwise, I'm sure Armando and I can handle the expense alone.
The choice is yours.

And fire: I have had no problem RPing NPCs with the same restrictions you're complaining about. All I'm saying is maybe... Start with a voice.

Re: General Discussion
I don't have a webcam for my PC and I don't think many of the others do either. There is one on my laptop but I have nowhere to really put it to play D&D without people constantly walking in and out and disrupting things.

Maybe we could try Google Hangouts with Roll20?

Re: General Discussion
It is actually incredibly awkward to attempt to act out anything when you can't see the other people there in person, especially when you can't do things like get body language and gestures across to the other person without attempting to awkwardly describe what you are doing.
Then there is also the need to add in things like "That was in character by the way" or "My character says..." because there is no real visual indication that someone is actually being in character. The majority of my mid-NPC Monologue snark has actually been In Character but there really isn't any way for anyone to actually tell when you only have the voice as an indication, and no real way to tell if it is In Character or Out of Character. It's one of the reasons why I prefer play by post or via an MMO or MUD. I know for a fact that you have mistaken a munch of in character comments as me interrupting or making fun or you a few times before.
It is also why a lot of my "RP" has actually been me awkwardly describing what my character is saying and doing or me being pretty wooden with playing in character, since I can't just stand up and act out my character's gestures, body language, facial expressions etc.
It's a flaw with the system that I personally find awkward anyway: I have to respond to this voice in my ear with no visual aid as to the NPC's expressions or body language, or even that of the party. Add in the fact that Armando (usually distracted) and Jarre (new to the whole thing) are also the only people who are usually sober by the end of a session and, well that would be the reason why my "RP" has been pretty awkward anyway.
Interestingly the above is also why the acting is just so wooden in the Star Wars prequel trilogy; the overuse of greenscreen meant that the overwhelming majority of the scenes were basically just one or two actors standing there having to respond to things and people not there.

Re: General Discussion
I'm not against more RP, though to be honest at the frequency we play it's hard not to get an itch to try out our new abilities after every level. Doesn't help that it'll probably be another month or two before I get Greater Grapple, which is when I really start wrecking people's shit.
Also, sent you some moneys.

Re: General Discussion
I still think that we could stand to RP a little more than we do now. I think it would add a level of dimension that we're lacking. It might even help to get everyone more involved.
