Played the demo, and it's bad. It's hard to get a good feel for the game because the demo only lets you play free-for-all deathmatch, but you sorta get the feeling that they didn't put much effort into the game. Marines can only hip-fire, so it's a little more difficult to kill anything. The shotgun was useless, the flamethrower was useless, and the melee attacks were useless. Oh, and the rifle was pretty useless too unless you were firing upon another marine or some dumb player who didn't know what they were doing. The alien controls are clunky, which doesn't bode well when you have to act and react quickly. You can grab people from behind to kill them, but if you grab a predator they immediately wrestle free, even if the player is obvious not at the controller.
Overall it was very disappointing. Not just that they forced you to play deathmatch, but that they even included it in the game at all. Obviously, they don't understand what AvP is about.
It's by no means a great (or even good actually) demo, but I wouldn't trash the game as a whole based on it. For one thing, I really don't get what the hell the point of a regular death match mode is in a game like that anyway. How the hell is a marine supposed to survive on his own? The Aliens & Predators both out class it badly, which is the entire point; Marines fight in Squads against a few aliens or just one predator. It's total crap to have multiple predators and aliens running around, leaving whoever happens to be human totally screwed. Never mind that the only level you can play on has absolute crap for lighting, while both aliens and predators can see everything just fine. The Aliens, for some reason, seem to have super X-ray vision as well which I find to be rather broken personally.
It comes out the 19th I think, so I'll rent it and judge it based on that. It'll be a lot more fun when you actually have team mates to back you up rather than running around solo while praying something's not sneaking up on you.
