Next Week's Issue of Famitsu PSP+PS3 Features "NEW METAL GEAR"

711's Japanese site shows that the next issue of Famitsu PlayStation features coverage on a title being called simply "NEW METAL GEAR."

It's been known since GDC that creator Hideo Kojima is planning on creating a new installment in the Metal Gear franchise. It's unknown if this is going to be Metal Gear Solid or a new series.

Kojima's GDC talk was mostly about the development of the franchise over the years, across its multiple platforms. He did however, discuss at length the directions he wants to take the franchise. Citing western titles like CRYSIS, he expressed a desire to create more "open-world," seamless gameplay.

Earlier this month, a teaser ad appeared in the pages of Famitsu featuring a dark, cloudy sky over a solemn looking grassland. Last week, a teaser page opened up featuring an animated version of the same image. A countdown clock and a large "5" appeared on the page. But would Kojima, a master of bait-and-switch announcements and plot twisting really tease a possible Metal Gear Solid 5 so blatantly? We might find out in a little over 4 hours.

Kojima is currently working on two projects simultaneously. One will be revealed at E3 and is rumoured to be the new Metal Gear project; the other is expected to be announced at TGS.

Well, apparently he wants to grow MGS in new directions since Konami won't let him do much besides Metal Gear and the odd Nintendo handheld game, which are rather sparse as is. A few Boktai games is all he's really been allowed to do outside of Metal Gear.

I knew it would be another Metal Gear game deep down, but I was hoping otherwise. I don't need one every other year.

Honestly, I really need to play the first two Metal Gear games, and I really don't want to use an emulator. A remake of those (or hell, Virtual Console them) would be great. Honestly, I'd be fine with a title where you play Snake's part of the Tanker chapter. I still haven't gotten MGS4, I can't be seeing 5.

They announced 4 only a year and a half after 3. I don't think it'll be MGS5, but I wouldn't exactly be shocked.

Its been eight years, I think its time to let it go.

Could be they might plan to remake the first two MG games, as they are in-line with the story and admittedly - MG and MG2 haven't aged well. Plus it would give them room to wiggle in MGS elements into the original stories. Like Ocelot and the Russians.

Honestly, I'd be fine with a title where you play Snake's part of the Tanker chapter.

Yeah, but he certainly climbed the bad-ass chart in 4. Its been nearly a year since I played 4, what was the guys name with Meryl? He's a definite possibility as lead character if Kojima does do a 5.
Honestly, as long as the gameplay is good and story kicks ass I don't really care if its a continuation of the Solid series.

Nah. Snake Tales wasn't canonical. I'm talking about the actual events of the tanker chapter, done from Plisskin's perspective Not that I have anything against Raiden, I wasn't particularly attached to playing as Snake, and he was vital to the story working properly (and oh did it), it would just be interesting to see what Snake was up to. Especially during the infiltration of Arsenal Gear.
