re: Legends Football League
If you don't think it's proper for people taking full-body tackles to the chest to wear padding, then I don't think much of your "opinion," but I guess that much was already obvious.

re: Legends Football League
Aeni, if you're a guy, you shouldn't think all women would have a problem with the LFL uniform. Obviously not all women think the same. If you're a woman, then religion/parents really screwed up your mind, because as a woman I support what LFL is doing for these women, that would not have gotten the chance to play football at this level, global exposure and popularity.
Whether they wear what NFL wears or not, the LFL has to resort to this because it's really the men to blame for belittling women as a whole, which is why women's basketball, football, baseball, etc. don't receive as much attention alongside NHL, NBA, etc, even the professional leagues are equivalent to a circus only locals care about.
The only exception is perhaps FIFA Women's soccer, but as for A.Football, there's no other women's football league as rapidly growing and successful like LFL.
The LFL opened doors for women that would otherwise lived in obscurity. And Taskmage, what's "proper" is opinion based, not universal.

Didn't we already have this thread, or was that some bullshit topless kickboxing thing J9 came up with that I'm remembering?

re: Legends Football League
This has nothing to do with what's right and wrong. It has to do with what's practical and what's marketable. If the LFL really thought that viewers were tuning in and buying tickets to see "athletes playing high level football" then they'd suit the women out properly like the male-dominated leagues. Instead they're marketing it as "football + boobies" which is not only sexist and exploitative, but tips their hand to show they don't think they can compete on level ground with the boys. NFL players don't run around in banana hammocks because they don't have to. LFL players wear "lingerie" because they think they do have to.

Those are subcultures. A wrestling fan still has to look presentable at his day job. Either way the LFL is still a joke.Originally posted by J9The general business interview example doesn't fit this subject, the LFL is like a culture in itself like Pro Wrestling is a culture in itself.

Man, the lengths that J9 will go to in order to justify titties is pretty amazing.

oh mew, I'm being double teamed.... o.o triple teamed.... 0.0 *prepares whap whap mittens*
The general business interview example doesn't fit this subject, the LFL is like a culture in itself like Pro Wrestling is a culture in itself. The clash of perception is kind of like how Colonists saw half naked indians (native americans) as "savages" when that is ignorance based on comparing cultures and seeing their own culture as "right" and anything different as "wrong."
That is what's happening in this discussion.
Blowing things out of proportion when the LFL has been growing strong for at least 3 years and becoming even more widely accepted than ever!!
You see that door over there? Open it. SEE the w o r l d, mew. =^^= See the w o r l d beyond your perception of right and wrong, mew. The athletes playing high level football is no less the selling point than the lingerie, mew. The actual sport keeps fans interested, the "eye candy" is only a fraction of its nature.

re: Legends Football League
Sorry, but how you present yourself and your product matters. If I show up to a business interview in dirty jeans and a sweaty shirt, the interviewer would be totally right to judge that someone too lazy or otherwise impaired to clean themselves up probably isn't someone they want representing the company. These women are running around half naked with maximum emphasis on their T&A. That sends all kinds of messages about what is really important about them, and what isn't.
When the organizers take the women seriously enough to actually cover them, then I will be sure not to judge them by their covers.

re: Legends Football League
If someone tells a woman what she should wear, I believe that to be sexism. What a woman wears is her business. I am not suggesting what these women should wear, I just see a flagrant disregard for safety standards and THAT is what I find sexist. Moreoverr, when you have a league that is owned by men and named the Lingerie Football League, you cannot convince me that anything about this is pro-woman. Its a reality TV show masquerading as a sport - the women in the league are looking for a shot at fame.
This used to work when reality TV was rare, but now its common as dirt and ice fisherman and toy collectors have their own shows. People who get into this stuff quite often don't see an improved quality of life or elevated exposure. This is true of reality TV, YouTube, porn - you name it. If a girl in the LFL gets too banged up, don't be surprised if another pretty girl with hopes of fame is there to replace her.
The LFL is built on little more than exploitation and for that reason, its not going to last long.. The XFL was more or less built upon sensationalism, too and was dead within two years.

Lingerie Football League
"We are no joke."
Lingerie Football League - because a bunch of female pro athletes got together and thought that was a great, empowering league name, right? When someone's serious about a sport, their willingness to put the kind of undergarments they wear in front of the sport makes me take it seriously.
Henceforth, we will call the NFL the JNFL, the Jockstrap National Football League. This totally does not draw attention toward the male genitalia. Those in the NBA will now be known as the BBNBA - The Boxer/Briefs National Basketball Association. The women's division will be the PSBNBA - the Panty/Sports Bra National Basketball Association.Last edited by Omgwtfbbqkitten; 09-02-2012, 03:40 PM.
