On the bright side, C2D + 8800GTS should be awesome.
Wow, nice card ... I wish I had that kind of moolah atm >_> Right now, though, my 9600 pro has been serving faithfully all these years. Soon, though, I'll need something better. In fact, some of the latest videos I find on the 'net, being encoded in a richer and vibrant form, which also translates well with HD sets, makes my processor crawl and I'm relegated to enjoying it with several dropped frames. ... sigh.

Yeah, I don't have money now, I got the damn stuff *five months ago*. If I had cash, I'd just buy something else :p

AND THE PC SHOP CALLED AND SAID IT WORKS!

It won't POST with the RAM I bought, but they're willing to sell me their 512MB test RAM! *thumbsup*

(for those that can't understand internet sarcasm, I'm going shopping for ram)

Why does it suck? I'm looking at about $40 a pop for the new RAM, which comes out to $160 for 4GB of DDR2 667 RAM, from Corsair so it shouldn't be too bad. I paid $200 for the RAM I had, and hopefully I can get a refund or something, but losing some clock speed for doubling the RAM seems like a pretty good deal IMO

I meant your situation ... with the new PC. It's almost like ... it's a sign ... (But I don't really believe in those things)

Hopefully everything works out, cause if that thing persistently gives you problem, might want to invest in an exorcist or something ...

                Re: Today, it...

And a good friend of mine helped me find something even better-- DDR2 800 for the same price (after rebate) from the same store.

Anyway, how is it a sign? That the technology gods hate me? I get that... my iMac is possessed (it has found countless ways to wake out of nowhere to scare the crap out of me. I except it wants my blood.) I also bought a camera that was dead before the third use, somehow. And let's not get on the subject of the turnover rates of my modems and routers (which has, thankfully, been pretty good lately)

The sign could be that ... maybe you should go get another PC (That maybe all these "little problems" will cost you something major down the road)

But like I said, I don't really believe in these things, but my cousin does and she goes off the wall about the heebie-jeebies and mumbo-jumbos (I think she watches too many of "those kinds of movies.")

Your PC looks really good, though. I can only envy you at this time, since I can't afford to get a new PC yet (mortgage and all that) >_<

                    Re: Today, it...

I doubt it. These aren't little problems, it was a series of DOA parts, not like it was bought from a crappy company. Anyway, getting another PC isn't an option after you've spent $2000 and half a year on something. Hell, I've bled on that computer, like hell I'm going to push it aside for some crappy little emachines.

Although I do need a laptop, it's an extra, not a replacement!

                      One word ... iBook.

Or ... that's what a friend in Houston told me. He thinks it's worth the money. /shrug I'm not an early adoptor or one who jumps the trend-train.

Yeah, I don't want to spend $400 on an Acer laptop, I'm not spending $1300 on a laptop just because it's pretty.

Well, I've only really had two laptops ever. One was a VAIO from Sony, the other an Inspiron from Dell.

Comparison? VAIO was short lived, was temperamental and I noticed ... parts ... just myseriously finding itself ... falling off it. (orz) Bottom line, the fragility and plain obsolence of Sony VAIO computers is not worth the hefty price tag (not even second-hand or eBay...)

The Dell was decent, I'd say I didn't have too much problems with it until the 3rd year, when mysterious glitches and unexplained "daemons" started to propagate on both the hardware and software level. Even reinstalls didn't do anything to alleviate the problems. However, it's still working (maybe a few keys need to be HAMMERED to emphasize your selections) and it's been nearly 5 years now...

I saw the toughbooks from Panasonic. Ugly as hell, but man, talk about durability. Petty drops off the stair case shouldn't disturb any particles in that thing...

I considered buying a VAIO UX at one point, it looks fairly solid, but unless you're buying it used it's WAY overpriced.

I used to have a compaq laptop. Well, technically I still have it, it just hasn't worked in years. Let's just say I had so many problems with it that I now have a personal vendetta against HP/Compaq
