Would kama be a whole new class of weapons?
Or would It be listed under katana?

    Read again.

COR, BLU and PUP got Group 1s when everyone else got the Group 2s, then had to wait a full year for Group 2s. Hopefully SCH and DNC won't have to wait that long for Group 2s.

I sincerely hope they don't give mnks that kama weapon. Kama? Why kama? Why not make MNK wield pole type staves with the kind of proficiency that doesn't make them look like they're swinging a baseball bat? Why not make staves decent weapons period? Why not make throwing weapons wsable for nin? Why not let sam wield frigging one handed katanas?

If it's a new type of katana weapon that makes even less sense. Eh. I'm getting annoyed. Going to go dig into my ears with a spoon.

I don't know how I feel about merit categories getting expanded again, I didn't like how SE did it last time at any rate. COR, PUP and BLU were made to wait far too long for Group 2s. I'd like to see SCH and DNC rounded out on Group 2s before expanding the categories.

Plus I don't think things like Sekkanoki, Snarl, Velocity Shot or Accomplice were really meant to be meritted. I don't really see them as anything but filling the various gaps in the core EXP levels and they're kinda powerful enough as they are.

A revision for Group 1s and 2s for certain jobs might be worthwhile, particularly the spell costs of RDM group 2 magic, but I'd probably only go so far with the various jobs.

For expanding merit categories, I'd prefer all jobs have Group 2s before SE even bothered. Maybe the next expansion won't have new jobs, though only one of the four expansions hasn't had new jobs so far, so I doubt we'd ever see such a grace period again. Its gotta be tricky to balance out new jobs while updating old ones.

Kama are not Nunchaku though. Kama are pretty damn cool yeah, but this isn't D&D where you can use a Kusari-gama (Kama with a chain)and trip people up with the weighted chain.

Come to think of it, FFXI would be a lot more interesting if there were more kinds of interactions with weapons and armor like that but that'd just add a whole new level of complexity that I'm sad to say the game really doesn't need.

And I agree with you YM that the merits will likely just be SCH and DNC's category 1's, but it'd be nice to see them either add new categories or expand/amend some of the existing ones. Whether they happen or not it's still fun to speculate.

e.g., A way to Merit Sekkanoki or Seigan. Or maybe Shield Mastery etc etc.

There haven't been any Nunchaku since FF3, and they did say FFXI is based heavily on 1-3 so....

Re: Merits: Malacite and others and I all get our hopes up, but that will probably be nothing more than Group 1 and 2 Merits for Dancer and Scholar.

Re: Fellows: S-E seems oddly intent on making Adventuring fellows more attractive for use. Perhaps they have some role in the past is why S-E just now decides to bring them to the forefront?

Unless they don't consider it a new weapon type, opting to lump it in with H2H, or a Katana class equippable by MNK as well.

Take note of the OP: just because it might be a Ninja doesn't mean Kamas aren't on the way for Monks, too.

Personally, I find it very interesting, especially if S-E goes the D&D route and make all Hand-to-Hand bonuses (like Martial Arts) apply to Kamas as well.

Like I said earlier: wait and see. If so, it'll be the first new weapon type since Katana and Great Katana in RoZ.

Yeah, performance does take a little hit when there's a lot of PCs around. But as far as hits from large zones or weather, I've yet to see my FPS drop under 28-29 from those two elements alone. Just drop the ratio down to 10 or so and you'll still see results, but your FPS won't be so prone to dropping.

I understand SE would like to keep the game fair and balanced for all systems, but really, does allowing a PC, or Xbox, to render the game how it's supposed to look really disturb the balance of gameplay?

Though the plugin says it increases draw distance for mobs, I've found this to be untrue as mobs still won't appear until within 50', though you can see much, much farther. In the end, this is truly an aesthetic adjustment to the game and has next to no impact on actual game-play.

Just saying, users shouldn't need to resort to 3rd party tools just to allow them to run the game how it's meant to run.
True, since the server chooses which mobs are within range for you the drawing distance is mostly a cosmetic feature that wouldn't give PC players any advantage over other platforms.

The DX9/engine update is needed so you don't suffer a hit on performance just from something as simple as that though. I've heard that particular plugin can really affect your frame rate on places like Whitegate or Beaucedine Glacier.
