    Re: Version Update Notice (04/25/2008)

As we got an enormous package of job adjustments last update, I'm not expecting much from this one. Probably the PLD shield-reflection spell, maybe the single-target BRD JA, and that's about it. Nothing else has sounded specific enough to come this soon. (Concerning RDM and SMN, making RDM melee worthwhile without overpowering RDM is a very fine line to walk, while with SMN I don't think they've quite figured out what the problem even is.)

Concerning merits, all I'm expecting are group 1s for DNC and SCH. That said, a little balance-tweaking on existing merits, particularly group 2s, certainly wouldn't hurt.

I'm pleasantly surprised to hear that they're giving more attention to chocobo raising and Fellows; while they're at it, though, why not Pankration? That could use the attention more, given that there's no accounting for WotG in it at all -- not even the palette-swapped mobs -- and Enspelled chigoes are so broken.

More than the Pankration stuff, though, I'd like to see a system that allows limited cross-past-nation purchases without having to jump between nations, and some better melee gear for the likes of RDM, THF, NIN, BLU, PUP, and DNC. -- Pteryx

    Re: Version Update Notice (04/25/2008)

I leveled brd recently it is really not stressful unless you are pulling against another brd in a meripo. At the start of a party I ask what songs everyone wants, simple enough usually min/march for melees and balladx2 for mages, when it comes to Paladins and Ranges I will tell them at the start where to be, usually with a paladin, I tell the melee's after the buffs to move on the opposite side of the mages so I can hit the Paladin with ballads in one shot with my mages. Rangers I ask to stand near the melee for Min in one casting, if you communicate with your party members they will listen, if they how ever happen to not listen to me, I have no problem not buffing people who listen.

About the job updates, some jobs could use minor tweaking over the already strong jobs.

1)Red Mages alot of them wouldn't argue with a melee update, as much as we have some posters who feel Red Mage need this. A huge boost to an already decent solo ability would be simple a weapon skill, would do wonders not some "massive updates" it would be good for them, but what people forget is this is one of the last things S-E would need to worry about in the big picture. There is no real need to argue about this because there are other things in the game that need more attention .

    2) Summoners, now alot of people are still "Unhappy" about summoners roles in exp parties. They say that the new Job ability didn't do much for summoner, well it did. The fact of the matter is that summoner will always be a healer as far as exp is concerned, the massive pool is just too much of a resource for parties. With the new ability it only strengthened this role, free mp almost like a mini convert with no enmity. People often forget that low levels and exp is the smallest part of this game in Square-Enix's eyes, I don't know how many people have gotten into endgame but Summoners can be devastating in endgame. They can put out huge damage for almost no tp given to the mob, add in the buffs and you can see what a huge asset they are in endgame. Properly geared summoners are just simply amazing, add in someone who knows the job inside and out and you have probably one of you best Damage Dealers for HNMs.

    3) Cor, Pup, Blu af2, this is not gonna be just thrown into the game. First off their AF is leaps and bounds above the majority of AF in the game. The Salvage gear is very nice, as well as Blu's access to Homam is almost better then AF2 could even hope to accomplish. I have seen cor put out some very good damage with their current gear, the only job that could use some gear adjustments IMO is pup. They do have a great gear set in Usukane, which is about the same amount of effort as getting full relic, it is there but not without effort.

    4) Dnc and Sch, they are too new to even think about AF2 as well as it may be too soon to add Merit 2's. If they add the t2 abilities too soon they may not get what they really need and could be a waste.

Yeah I hear you there BBQ. It's just aggravating that they tend to stand right by the mages, and depending on the camp and how ppl are positioned I may or may not be able to get back there to minuet them without getting rid of the Mages' Ballad.

Everytime SquareEnix updates FFXI . . . a Taru gets punted.

Whether it be across Jeuno... across the past or present... up and down whitegate...

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!! STOP THE HUMANITY!!!

Please SquareEnix... if you really value peace and harmony... stop putting out updates to battle systems and to jobs...

Maybe then... when it is all said and done, the people who bitch bitch bitch will get so pissed off they will leave the game and allow us humble tarutaru's to be able to sit down once again without fear of pain from previous foot insertions.

The thing about single target ballad is, people tend to shift around a lot in parties (at least this is how it's been for me) and dear lord, getting people to line up is like pulling teeth (as are skill chains and a lot of other "tactical" notions) Then you get the RNG's who love to stand right by the mages, making giving them minuet a pain in the ass.
I love how RNGs get faulted for what BRDs do.

See, I levelled BRD when BRDs were WHORES for RNGs. BRDs wouldn't PT without one, I was probably one of the few BRDs that didn't see not having a RNG as a dealbreaker.

Those BRDs, though, knew only to give melees Minuet and nothing but Minuet. I would actually give MNK one tier of March and one of Minuet. And I also took my party buffs on a case by case basis, I'd look out our jobs, ask what food was being used and check gear to gauge what buffs I should be using.

Then BRD pulling became mainstream in ToA and many BRDs rationalized March x2 as not only good for melee, but also benefical for thier own Haste Builds in Utsusemi recasts. BRDs became too "busy" to note the needs of other jobs. I personally never had problems keeping buffs up that benefitted the whole.

But as a RNG, I've come to expect BRDs won't do jackshit for me. So I just come /WAR and use meat. Hell RNGs in one LS I know just grab the COR instead if he's available and just snub the BRDs because they know the CORs at least have common needs and that they will cater better to them.

Err, when was the last time you tried meleeing anything in Merit Camps as BRD? Even with my Joyeuse it's a pain, and it's time that could be spent singing songs or curing or pulling. Not like we'd do any decent damage either, so all you'd be doing is feeding the mob a bit of TP for the sake of a couple of hits of a Samba. Not worth it (Though I admit I freaking BRD/DNC when not in EXP parties)

Bring on the single target ability. BRD is stressful enough as it is, and gets very little respect for it. No body praises a good BRD, but you'll never hear the end of a screw up.

Also Murphie, what's wrong with wanting an update? Needed or not, it really does suck to go for 4+ years without getting jack shit. It wouldn't kill SE to toss MNK and RDM a bone if nothing else to shut up the whiners.

While I'm at it, I demand that this
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQwAxMiKHPo]YouTube - Tour de Japon - Final Fantasy Main Theme[/ame]

get added to the game in some way. I freaking the series theme music. Break his legs if you have to SE, but get Nobuo BACK! It's such a shame that a lot of the great geniuses of the industry are moving on to other things at a time when the Technology available has come so far.

    EDIT: Rather funny comment from the BG discussion;

BRP: SE: We really liked it when we released at the same time as SSBB. We are going to do the same thing with MGS4 to see how that goes.

Well the method is there, wether the players decide to incorporate it is another matter. It'll just make things easier on the players as usual imo.

Single Target PLD Ballad isn't hard, it just requires your PT to know how to fucking position themselves.
Truth is, BRDs make it as hard to land it as PLDs commonly do. Either way, I'd like to see that coming up soon so both sides can shut the hell up about it. COR kinda/sorta got its single target fix through /DNC and Aspir Samba which is fairly viable if you go after MP mobs, but BRD can't viably given its primary and secondary roles in PT. They can't make time for melee contact with the mob.

YM complaining that RDM hasn't had an update in four years is also basically flamebait. It's not even a good argument. Updates aren't like turns. It's not as though everyone is entitled to one. The jobs that need them get them, and the ones that don't should be happy, because hey! They are already pretty awesome.

RDM? Already pretty damn awesome. Just because it isn't the job a small subset of the community wants it to be doesn't mean that it has any sort of fundamental problems, or that it is somehow more deserving of an update than the jobs that really do need them. And I'd definitely place SMN in line ahead of RDM for updates, if there were indeed a line, which there isn't.

Updates piss me off. The month before it happens, people on forums bitch about what their job "needs" or what it "deserves." Then after the update, people bitch and argue even more about their job not getting its update again. Everybody wants wants wants, and then bitches bitches bitches like little kids when it doesn't happen. I'm surprised SE even bothers to try and fix any issue anymore because it doesn't really do anything besides make more people bitch even more when the "issues" with their jobs aren't fixed.

If it's not broken, don't fix it. And even if it is broken, stopping crying like fucking 5yr olds. Jesus.

I have actually, on my other character. Had Carby mitts too. Still don't entirely care for the way it's played.

this is nothing but sheer flame bait, and I'm not going to start any arguments over what job "needs" what. At least nothing that's already been debated to death (hence I choose to refrain from ranting over my dislike of the way SE has handled SMN)

I'm choosing to continue my belief that SE will one day wake up and realise they gotta do some drastic with that job. Until then I'll focus on the more plausible/likely updates that are hopefully coming this time around such as the new songs and ability for BRD to single target songs.

Being able to single target Ballad onto a PLD after buffing the melee would be a bloody god send for the job. Might actually make playing it tolerable again. The new songs have me rather curious though.
Will they just be higher tiers of songs we already have? (I hope not...) or entirely new buffs?

EDIT: Maybe I'll finally get to purchase that shiny new Hauberk our generals use with my AN.

Mal, YM wasn't talking about SMN. So really it has no place here.

Personally, I'd love a moratorium on YM talking about what RDM needs when his RDM is only 30, and he has yet to scratch the surface of its actual potential. And I'd like the same moratorium to be placed on Malacite who doesn't even play SMN. In both cases it's just the same damn argument over and over again, and it only serves to derail every thread it pops up in. I'm tired of seeing it everywhere. If you want to bitch about what those jobs "need" (serious emphasis on the quotes there) then keep it to one thread only. Please. I mean for crying out loud.

Of course, the updates they keep complaining about are more likely to happen than them stopping.
