I just found this on RPGgamer 360 owner may get delayed?
R P G A M E R - N E W S B U L L E T I N E3 - Final Fantasy XI: Wings of the Goddess Roundtable Discussion
07.11.2007
JORDAN JACKSON
STAFF REPORTER
Square Enix was kind enough to let us join a roundtable discussion about their newest expansion to Final Fantasy XI, Wings of the Goddess. Joining in from Square Enix was Hiromichi Tanaka, senior vice president of software development; Kochi Ogawa, planner for Final Fantasy XI; Sage Sundi, global online producer; Yasu Kurasawa, executive director of Final Fantasy XI, with Michael Fox translating for us.
The talk began with some basic information regarding the expansion. It will include 30 new areas, new monsters to do battle with, and new jobs. While they wouldn't divulge what the new jobs were, they told us that there would be more than one.
From there, the question of how much of the content would apply to new players was asked. Tanaka replied that though approximately 70 percent of the content will be for experienced players, there will be things that will appeal to new players as well. That was followed up with a question regarding changes to the Merits System, and it will continue to be expanded, but not necessarily tied to the expansion itself.
Rather than just add more lands to the map, this expansion instead offers a view 20 years into the game's past, during the time of the Crystal War. When asked about the inspiration for this atypical type of expansion, they replied that they just wanted to do something different from what they had done before. They also said that what is done in the past might affect the game's present. The changes could even include the types of monsters players can fight. It was revealed that monsters can become extinct in Final Fantasy XI.
Another topic included the game systems themselves. Square Enix said that the game will appear on all three current platforms and in all languages, but there was the possibility of a delay for the release on the Xbox 360 due to complications with Microsoft.
The final question regarding how players would traverse through time went unanswered. Square Enix was not willing to reveal that at this time. More details will certainly be coming in the future, possibly at the new Square Enix Fan Fest happening later this year.

Its slightly stalling TP gain, but not by a signifigant enough margin to be noticiable, especially when said two job (NINs and MNK) largely rely on numerious sources of haste to increase thier attack rate and TP gain, in addition to lowered recast timers.Originally posted by Ziero View PostSubtle Blow is *far* from useless. Look at the two jobs who have it naturally, Mnk and Nin. Both jobs attack fast with weak hits. And every hit, no matter the dmg, gives the mob TP. Subtle Blow lowers the tp per hit from those two attackers, making it so they don't cause faster TP growth then 2 handed weapon users. Again, anything to reduce or prevent Mob TP spam is a good thing.
This kinda nullifies the whole point to Subtle Blow when you've got Haste capped out on either job, especially when both jobs choose attack, accuracy and other stats over Subtle Blow enhancements.
Perhaps Monk's Roll could be used in the absense Subtle Blow gear, but I've never been asked to use it and personally don't see much point in doing so. Monks want that about as much as RNGs want Preludes.

Anything that could be done to prevent a mob WS from going off is a good thing. Plague would be a very potent spell.Originally posted by Omgwtfbbqkitten View PostBoth would be worthless to PCs except in a recovery situation.

Crabs are Pld type mobs, hence the high Def and natural MP. Though reducing their MP might not be that great, slowing down their WS and abilities would be useful. And even Kirin has limited MP.Those crabs in valkurm have some deep MP reserves then, especially considering they don't have magic. If they did have magic, it wouldn't even be worth inflicting Virus, they'd be dead before it could do anything worthwhile.

Too true. It would be nice to see some updates pertaining more to jumps, giving DRG a little more stand alone power. It would also be great if subbing an offensive mage job (like BLM) would allow you trigger elemental breaths more often, but I don't know how SE would go about balancing that.Originally posted by DakAttack View PostI don't see Dragoon as being an after thought since it's based on the Lancer. I think our reliance on the weak little wyvern is what does us in.
Oh, and if any job should get Plague, it would be DRK.
Lastly, there's a very simple way to balance Chemist's Mix command; make all the items ex or temp, and/or only usable through the "Drink" command (or whatever other commands might be available to Chemist). Anything to keep them out of bazaar's and AH so that you can't hoard and abuse them.

OK, I was wrong. Virus decreases TP and MP, Disease inhibits HP and MP regain. I've been playing a lot of FFXII as of late, there, Virus inhibits HP and MP regain AND decreases your max HP per hit. Its not exactly a status ailment we concern ourselves with in FFXI that often.Originally posted by Legal Fish View PostWow, can't you ever say, "Oh, I'm wrong" for once?

So Subtle Blow is only kind of useless. Way to turn it around.Subtle Blow isn't exactly weak, it's just not worth it to give up on more useful stats like accuracy/attack/and so on. This is more apparent when there is more than one or two melee fighting the monster.

Naw, really?PS. Viruna cures Plague.

In that case (item usage for spell/ability casting) I think Chemist would be a much better option than Geo.

That doesn't mean they have data that could work with this idea of Geomancers.Originally posted by DakAttack View PostThe game does know what you're standing on. Foot step animations and sound effects are evidence of this.
Think about how impractical it would be. Just imagine it in play, instead of in your head. Not from a developer's point of view, but from a player's point of view. It would be so extremely limited. It's exactly what SE wanted to avoid making BLU, COR, and PUP.
Casting spells using tools just like Ninja is a proven formula that works, combining it with getting free spells based on location(as in entire area) to keep in flavor.

Seriously though, while actual terrain-based (like if you are walking on grass, sand etc.) Geo-spells would be a pain to implement zone-based would be fairly easy, which I think is the way devs would go if they added the job.
Now, like I read in another post (maybe same thread? don't remember) if you could cast all Geo-spells everywhere with varying levels of strength depending on the zone you are it would make Geo an interesting job to play.
Say you have a wind based spell, Cape Terigan would make that spell very strong, while Xarcabard would make it very weak, that's the kinda effect I'm talking about.

How does Ninjetsu tool like items make less sense than basing it on what you are standing on? You make my brain hurt. The game would need to write data that isn't even there now.Bells sound like a bad idea. It just doesn't seem right for FFXI.
In FFT Geomancers had access to certain spells based on the terrain they're standing on.
Wow, can't you ever say, "Oh, I'm wrong" for once? We've seen how well Subtle Blow inhibits a mobs TP (which is to say that it really doesn't)and I have to wonder if mobs really even do have a limit on MP reserves. I'd assume most NMs just don't have that limitation. Some NMs use TP moves at will without building TP, which defeats the purpose of either spell.
You have to stop talking out of your ass.
Plague would be very powerful.

Some NMs. Okay, some NMs... thanks for pointing out 2% of the monster's population would only be "partially" harmed by Plague. And you are wrong, it wouldn't defeat the purpose of the spell. If a NM gains 10 TP a tick and uses TP moves at 150% TP, a 3/tick subtraction from that will stall the monster for a handful of ticks.
Just. Stop. Jeez.
PS. Viruna cures Plague.

Why? Why can't the mobs be just as screwed as we are? It wouldn't last long enough to matter anyway.
It's already been added, its just not a player accessible enfeeble.

I wouldn't say that Subtle Blow is completly worthless. Often it isn't utilized, but I find it very helpful. Cases where I see it help the most would be duo/trio-ing UFOs in sea. Thier TP moves are quite bothersome, but I've noticed if you just use Mnk or Nin DDs the TP spam is greatly lessened.Originally posted by Omgwtfbbqkitten View PostWe've seen how well Subtle Blow inhibits a mobs TP (which is to say that it really doesn't)and I have to wonder if mobs really even do have a limit on MP reserves. And Mobs do have very finite MP pools. Ask any blm that has PLed before. I can't aspir the same crab for 3 hours unless it loses aggro at some point. Mobs recover when unclaimed/unaggroed at the rate of about 10% per tick. A lot of beastmasters use that to keep the mob alive longer. Like a mini-reward. Have to be quick before it despawns of course.

Doesn't mean a curative spell can't be made, though. I like your "Recollection" idea.
