You'd be right *only* if it was just NPC pricing, but it's also what items can be sold to NPCs for AND how much gil you receive in general from all sources - the effective generation of gil has been cut 90%. Is it sinking in now? WE LITERALLY CAN NOT GENERATE AS MUCH GIL AS BEFORE, WHICH MEANS GIL SINKS WILL BE THAT MUCH MORE EFFECTIVE!

    Jesus fucking Christ...
You have no idea about how this will work, that's for certain...

Again, how much gil trades hands between you and an NPC? Answer, very miniscule compared to the amount of gil that is traded among the player base. Reducing gil it costs to purchases items from an NPC and reducing the amount of gil you gain from selling items to an NPC IS NEGLIGIBLE IN THE LONG RUN. You my friend are an idiot if you can't comprehend this.

What an NPC buys or sells items for or how much gil you receive from quests ( i can only guess this is what you meant when you made the sweeping generalization of "how much gil you receive in general from all sources") has little impact on the FFXIV economy. The vast mojority of gil is made through the markets by selling items from one player to another. If your main source of income is by completing quests or NPC'ing items, you are doing it wrong. If you are doing it wrong, then your comment is correct. But again, if this is your main soure of gil generation, you are really doing it wrong...

Did they recently send out Beta invites? Found one in my spam folder, so not sure if it's legit or not. Gonna have to find the website it's linking me to without resorting to clicking it.

Edit: Huh. So it was legit.

      Sweet~

Funny, I must have missed the update that allowed players to magically generate gil out of thin air while simultaneously removing taxes and all other gil sinks.

The taxes when buying or selling are negligible...

Again, if you are considering "the tax" when you are buying or selling items in the markets, you are doing it wrong, LOL...

They should add a gil sink in which SE will have campaigns over certain times of the year introducing new 'costumes' at exorbitant prices (or enough to slake off some gil from the game) Like a Miku Hatsune outfit. Or the latest Lady Gaga (with her stamped approval) if you're into that sort of stuff. The graphics are sophisticated enough (at least on the PC) to do this. :D

Or buy a relic? lol... would never happen, but would be kinda neat if once a year instead of the stupid mog bonanza like in XI, you could just outright buy the damn thing - 1 per account per year. It's actually not that game breaking, since a lot of the gil that's spent normally on the double-melds is transferred between players - in this case it's straight up erased.

Another gil sink they could add into the game is something like Golden Saucer. Basically, you throw away gil to collect casino tokens, and the tokens can then be used to buy stuff like pets, no-stat outfits, and other non-game breaking 'swag'. Do not allow players to cash out those tokens and all purchased items unique/non-tradable and you have a near sure-fire way of sucking up gil from the game.

SE should hire the Russian mafia programmers for the casino, though. Gil has to be sucked out of the game, and that would be pointless if we have the Chinese figuring out exploits to the system and start 'printing' gil.

Well we already know from the Letters he's planning on adding the GS at some point.

My only question is - where? Personally I think UD would be best.

It wouldn't be wise to put it in a city. Otherwise, that city would be the capital for the entire game, hands down.

Isn't Ul'dah already feeling like the capital of Eorzea region, mew? Well I guess the Gridanians would be green like leaves, or with envy. And the Limsanians would pretend their town is the real Gold Saucer. but I think Ul'dah would be a better choice than Ishgard/expansion city. or not in a city. or maybe it could count for its own city. Maybe since Crystal Tower resembles FFIII Crystal Tower, Gold Saucer might actually be that super tree sized FF7 Gold Saucer (it looks like a tree on the world map). Not sure if it would have roller coasters (those lasers are cool, mew). or arcade machines, or that basketball and arm wrestling thing. and the G Bike game is too futuristic. maybe Magitek Armor Battle will take the place of the 3D Fighting game. Oh and what about Snowboarding? I still remember that moogle throwing table.

Acknowledging the point above regarding the city which has the Gold Saucer essentially becoming the de-facto capital is correct: on the grounds that a massive portion of the userbase would congregate there and base themselves out of it.

My thoughts on this would suggest that in order to keep economies balanced and free from any particular centralisation, would be to repeat its placement from FFVII, and keep it in the middle of a desert or rural area (although I'd like to avoid the local destroyed city nearby, like North Coral. That was just horrid.)

I think that I actually stopped breathing when I saw the Magitek Armour, I am definitely looking forward to seeing how they are included.

I think they could avoid economy favoring one city or another, if all auction houses are linked. in FFXI it was a bit of a wall having separate AHs where you had to travel to each city to check everything in the market (or have a LS member check for you). I think FFXIV ARR should be more advanced than FFXI in that aspect, with Auction Houses being connected and universal, like Ebay or Amazon, mew. That would expand the world sales for sellers, and the likelyhood of buyers finding what they are shopping for.

UD was already more or less the defacto gathering point in 1.23 anyway though so... meh?

You see? Ul'dah does possess charismatic community gathering traits just like Jeuno. (even though they are very different, they still have that capital city atmosphere to them, just like Midgar in FFVII, Esthar in FFVIII and Rabanastre in FFXII, I actually still like Jeuno more than Whitegate.)
