    You're welcome

I'll check my Nvidia CP settings, and make sure it's "Let application decide".
Even nVidia recommends this. When I last perused the GE Force "Club" site regarding optimization settings (they never released an FFXIV version yet) one of the nVidia techheads said that some games default to the driver settings while other games require total control over the drivers. Unfortunately, FFXIV is one of those games and there's numerous articles as well as thread posts that go into detailed technical analysis, but almost always come down to criticizing the way the API controls were being handled (or mishandled) by FFXIV client (in other words, shoddy programming as a result of trying too hard to eliminate 3rd party hacking tools)

I might have to roll back my drivers too, I'm on the most recent version.
Remember to properly uninstall with each rollback. nVidia has a tool on their site to help facilitate this (might require some poking around on their site)

I'm kinda guessing my problem stems from XIV being poorly optimized
Bingo. Hit the proverbial nail square on the head with this one. Fortunately for me, the game runs stable enough without overheating problems, but that's because I'm anal about these things. I use MSI Afterburner to "choke" the game if it reaches or surpass certain pre-configured thresholds in order to protect my GPU.

As for shadows, it's shit no matter what you do, but I find 4x or 8x with high shadows "palatable enough". Will not totally get rid of the annoying "soft cross hash" effect you see from the bad lighting (aka window screen effect)

    2. Make sure your graphic settings in the nVidia control panel lets the application decide. Otherwise, you're going to get conflicting settings which always, always causes compatibility issues.

    3. Check to see what driver you're running and Google nVidia SLI and Final Fantasy XIV. Certain drivers work the best for SLI mode when running FFXIV. It's not recommended that you always keep your drivers updated.

    4. Always keep Ambient Occlusion off. There is no rig out there that can run the game with AO on and not look like shit. Until 2.0 is released, we won't know what kind of tweaks will be developed for the game.

    5. There should be a benchmark application on the FFXIV site. Download it and then analyze the performance. Depending on how you score, you can determine where the problem is (i.e., CPU or GPU)

    6. What Windows are you running? How much RAM do you have? There's a lot of information you have not given out, including your power supply (model/brand), whether or not your Direct X drivers are squared away and how many devices are drawing from the PSU. All important factors in determining your performance and improving it.
    Thanks!

Yeah, I left out most of that stuff because I'm fairly certain that those things aren't likely the issue. I take care of my toys, and I have no issues anywhere else. I'm kinda guessing my problem stems from XIV being poorly optimized and still, at least from a technical standpoint in beta. My monitor resolution probably doesn't help either. I'm sure if I was running 1080p things would be fine. Windows 7 professional 64bit. 12gb of DDR3 (1800 I think). 1200w PSU. Direct X is straight too. I need an SSD though, and I'm wondering if that might help the stuttering I see here and there.

Since this post I've gotten things running better. AO is off. Turned everything back down to "standard", AA off, and still tinkering. Shadows still look awful though.

    Thanks Aeni!

i7 990x (Not OC'd), 2 GTX590 in SLI (stock clock speeds), 2560x1600. I haven't met much that I couldn't run maxed out, but XIV turns into a slideshow with everything on. I know AO hits hard, but even after turning AO off, and eye-candy down, I'm still not 100% happy.
I hear the windowed fullscreen hack might help, as does various Nvidia CP settings, but I was hoping for some tips from those with personal experience. Anyone have any magic for me?

I googled it and found the answer in the top 4 links:

"IF YOU ARE GETTING THE PLEASE INSTALL VISTA SERVICE PACK 2 ERROR HERE IS THE FIX:
Figured it out when i got the error after installation issues.

open up the run line and go to the setup files located on your FF14 CD.
Right click on FFXIVsetup and go to properties
go to the compatibility tab this will be set to WINDOWS VISTA
REMOVE THIS SETTING and let it run without a compatibility MODE
    "

I'm not part of the beta and I just bought the game today. I'm trying to upload however the system keeps saying I have to update Windows Vista Service Pack 2 in order to proceed. The problem is that I have Windows 7, not Windows Vista. Why would it ask me this? Can anyone help? I'm not too computer savvy. Thanks.

Mine took only 15 minutes at 650 KB/s. How reliable is your internet and how many people in your neighborhood are on the torrent? Also, are you behind a firewall?

About to run Benchmark to see how well my PC's specs are performing.

I finally downloaded the patch (by going to bed and waking up in the morning to find it finished.) I'm not familiar but are other MMO's doing P2P for downloads these days? Mine took about 6 hours......

When I made my character and started the game, it was all choppy to hell and I could barely move, so I had to tweek some settings. :/ I only have a Nvidia GEFORCE 7300 512mb graphics card which is under the specs that are requiring 9000+. I have 2 gigs Ram, but unfortunately my comp is 4 generations behind :/ ...... single core Intel 4 Pentium..... ... yah I know you don't have to stare lol.

Downloaded new graphics drivers, but we'll see how benchmark works....... maybe it will "at least" run OK.

Several of my FFXIII and FFXIV codes came up already used or invalid. A friend got me new codes and those worked but I want answers for the ones that didn't.

Anyone else have this problem ... seems like someone registered my Redemption Code for Rights of Passage. I sent an email to support so I'll see what they say. There's only one character in the code where it could be a zero or an oh and I tried both methods. The rest of the code was straight forward with no room for ambiguity. This is mildly frustrating.

I'm getting 650 KB/s on the patch using uTorrent. Kinda crazy. :B

Re: FFXIV Installation Info & Issues - Post here please

    Well..........

Got home and started installing and I got this stupid error message about 51% thru installation:

CRC error: The file C:\Program Files\Square Enix\FINAL FANTASY XIV\data\5B\20\00\00.DAT doesn't match the file in the setup's .cab file.
So, I went searching for a reason why this is happening and I was only able to find from a post at gamefaqs.com that some dude called tech support at SE and they said its a possibility the disc scratched during shipping.

Checked the disc, looks perfectly fine to me. But who knows if there are micro-tears or abrasions I can't see with the naked eye (not to mention the fact the disc seemed pretty secure in its disc holder in the case.)

So, I found out that BlueGarter has a torrent linked in one of their forums that people can use to try to download instead. (Because apparently, there are tons of other errors people are having with installation ranging from out of date DVD drivers, to Windows Vista compatibility mode settings, or MSSS needing to be turned off, etc.)

Retail: Error while installing FFXIV Read it here at BG Forums.

Wouldn't hurt to scan it before DL.

I'm not waiting for a new damn shipment of CD's. People are saying they also called GameStop to get another DVD, would take it home, and get the same error all over again.

Then one girl on another forum stated she and her hubby got home, she got some kind of data.cab2 error and installed it on her hubby's comp and it did an ISO or whatever to get it onto her desktop. After a few hiccups, she was good to go. She said she thought it was a really stupid error for a DVD drive not being up to par with the DVD disc when we're paying 79$ a pop and I COMPLETELY AGREE lol.

Oh well; at least I can sit here and write in my new little journal how INCREDIBLY PISSED OFF I AM!!!! THANKS SQUARE.

Overheating? Are you on the bubble with regards to minimum requirements to play this game? Some of you are reporting playing the game for 12-20 hours straight. It's just like running Fur Mark for 6 hours straight on max. You could severely cause damage to your PC. If anyone is playing long hours with the game I highly suggest scaling back settings to not overwork CPU/GPU. Applying constant power and accumulation of heat causes stress in the various parts (capacitors) and could potentially fry things up if you are OC'd.

    Ok obvious questions but...

You uninstalled the beta (if you tried it), right?

Did you install anything/change any settings between logging off and on today?

Can you run other games/videos/etc on your PC with no issues?

Try running the benchmark and see if you have any issues.
