Re: So, what are your plans?

I plan to use my time between leve quests to work on figuring out the formulas associated with combat.

My plan is to play SC2 while waiting for my copy of the game to ship for free and take 2 weeks to get to me. It's all good ... not in any hurry. Still need to swap my PSU and get a new video card.

All three disciples of the land get crystals alongside the other items. I could see miners pulling up minerals that are useful in alchemy as well; the skins of some fish could be used in leathercrafting (sharkskin boots?) and of course shells and pearls could be used in goldsmithing. You could tie each of the harvesting classes to any number of crafting classes with a little creativity. You might even see botanists harvesting scourshrooms for smiths to take the rust off of darksteel.

Miner also scores crystals and junk like bones and worms from what I've seen, so I'm sure its not limited to just the 3 crafts you mentioned, but we'll see on release.

I was just thinking about something...

Botanist is likely going to be the big money maker.

Miner will likely only pertain to Black Smithing & Goldsmithing (and Armorer by association but I imagine they require the other 2 classes to make materials for them to work with 1st) .

Fisherman, if XI is any indication, will only pertain to Cooking and possibly Alchemy.

This leaves Botanist as the go-to guy for Cooks, Alchemists, Carpenters, and Weavers for raw materials. That's a lot of crafters looking to one guy for supplies.

Ya, you have to disengage, switch weapons, and all the while the mob is beating your ass. So basically you aren't in a battle because you disengaged.

You can not switch while engaged with a mob yes.

Y'know, I've never tried. I do know however that you can't log out or invite someone to a party as long as anyone in the party is engaged, so even if you forced d/c to switch jobs you couldn't get back in the party. So maybe the system has that handled.

ISn't its SE's intention that you can't change jobs mid-fight, though? Pretty sure you can only do that before and after a battler.

I'm more worried that the ease of switching jobs in the field will require everyone to multi-class. For example, everyone is required to have both a physical and a magical DD leveled so that when bosses switch immunity everyone in the group can hit a macro and go to that job type.

This is pretty much how I feel now. I'm older now, and I'm working (wasn't working the entire time I played FFXI, just raising kids which made it easy to do both) and I don't think I'm going to have the time to devote to it the way I did with XI. I'm going to play what I enjoy and not what other people want me to be. My days of spending 18 hours a day immersed in an MMO are over.

And no, TGM, I mostly bitched to my husband while we were married, or whoever I happened to be dating. They got the brunt of it. Unless the peeve was directed at them, in which case this was the first place I'd come.

True, while there are obvious cookie cutter abilites that people will bitch and moan at you if you don't have them like Second Wind, Blood bath, Taunt/provoke (both if you're a tank) Defender etc depending on your profession, but when you solo or doing certain things that require flexibility the system delivers.

My PUG atm is heavily built around regaining HP snd its foing so very nicely... I need doom spikes now and I got something interesting... I'm sure theres an abilite that works like soul eater that could be used to create a MNK/DRK kind of thing, so its pretty cool in a way.

The real issue is people labeling jobs as tank or healer and so on that limits the creativity of the individual, but just like how PLDs had DD sets in FFXI for their own use you can do the same in FFXIV but you won't be limited by your main/sub since your subs are endless and you can pretty much wield a sword and not have a single Gladiator ability, and create something new like lets say a damage dealer class, and once they give us more options like greatswords....

You might have a Gladiator (on paper) wielding a great sword, with heavy hitting abilities from lancer and marauder and uses absorbs, debuffs like blind, and maybe an evasion build with Featherfoot, and Flash/Glare or whatever its called and be totally reliant on counter attacks like Jarring strike and Haymaker which now take like 1/20 of the stamina bar and hits for pretty good damage. (Huzzah for EVAnGladlion)

Its genius... but god dammit they need to overhaul the user interface...

    Well, remember that in XIV you're never limited to any one class in the field;

Just set yourself up with the skills and primary stats you'll need for an offensive caster and roll with it. If people don't like it, tough shit.

    If it doesn't go:

    Ting ting
    Pew pew
    rrrrrrrrek bawm

    I will not play it.

I learned my lesson the last couple of MMOs. No more support or healer jobs for me. Only jobs that shoot things or make things that shoot. Other than that, jobs that find loot.
