At stock speeds, i5-750 is better in MOST tests. Please see Bench - CPU - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News (Note: In some tests, lower is better).

You can overclock any CPU if you're so inclined, but it's risky and may result in damage to your hardware.
I've never done it myself, but from what I understand different CPUs can be safely overclocked more or less; some run cooler than others at factory settings. While you could overclock any CPU, it doesn't mean you'll see the same gains on each one.

    Case: CoolerMaster HAF 922
    CPU: i7-930 2.8ghz (no OC)
    GPU: Gigabyte ATI HD 5870
    RAM: 6GB (3X2gb) G-skill 1333 DDR3
    Mobo: Gigabyte X58 i7-930 compatible
    OS: Win 7 64-bit OEM
HDD: 1TB WD caviar SATA HDD

So, 750W enough power for that rig? Mainly using for CS5 maybe some 14 or 11 when I have free time from projects in school. I plan on having the cs5 open or 14/11 open for long periods of time. Hoping this rig will stay cool enough and have enough power. Also, any tips on a surge bar for this setup. Hooking up to my HDTV 24", going to use the HDMI connection.

    TIA.
Its all good and 750 is more than enough, case is well ventilated and will keep things cool, you're good to go.

You can overclock any CPU if you're so inclined, but it's risky and may result in damage to your hardware. Inherently, it's only advantage is the 8MB L3 cache, but that's only 2MB more, and about half a GHz less, so why pay more for less?

The i5 750 is a better overall CPU than the AMD 965.

Take a look at this chart from www.TomsHardware.com

Gaming CPU Heirarchy Chart : Best Gaming CPUs For The Money: July 2010

You can OC the i5 750 to 3.5Ghz easy, without worrying about temp. And when you do, it begins to mimick and sometimes outperform i7 chips.

    Only for an extra $15.

shit I payed shit fuck all for my machine and its top of the line custom built, if it can't run ffxiv (not that I give a shit since ffxi hd doesn't interest me) ill eat my hat. Since it ran SC2 beta at 100% settings I am not worried at all.

I only have a budget of 400$ to spare this month I don't think i can get anything more until ffxiv release. I think it is time to quite FFXIV ... I wonder what i should do about my CE pre-order since i already pay in full.

Can the sky rain me down some money just on top of me! (i blame Xbox live taking 70 bucks from ! and Crackdown2 + N3II and ACE pre-order!)

Why must all the good games release on FFXIV release. What should i do about Ghost recon 2, killzone 2, fable III, Hawx 2 and battlefield black ops. I can't skip these to buy a PC!

I think we should put together a "donate your spare parts" to the poor to play FFXIV XD.
