Re: Guide: Building a PC to play FFXIV
I was just looking into this today, and I agree with what you're saying. Anandtech ran a great article comparing the GTX 460 with other NVIDIA and ATI models (link goes directly to performance charts), including SLI configurations and overclocks. Recommended reading for anyone interested.

Re: Guide: Building a PC to play FFXIV
Getting 2 200$ (total 400$) cards and SLI them to get the performance of a 700$ card =/= waste of money.Originally posted by Malacite View PostIt's under features I think, it was shown in one of the character creation videos.
And SLI/Crossfire is nothing but a waste of money.
Also theres the scenario where in the future your card isn't doing so well with a certain game and you find yourself with 3 options.
Pay for a new card which could be 200+ and that depends on your otherhardware not bottlenecking the new card and crippling its performance which could lead to throwing more money on other new hardware.
Pay a fraction of that to pay for another card and go SLI.
Not play.
I usually go SLI with mid range cards and save 100$+ over buying a high end one which can go to other parts of the build or just go back to the wallet.
the GTX460 for example is 190-210$and is great for gaming you can get one now and maybe a year or two from now get a second one which should be cheaper then and once you SLI you'll have power close to an ATI 5970 and thats a 700$ card. thus saving you more 300$ in the end.
Of course this is a personal opinion/style and to each his own. but if you're going with 1 card I'd go with something decent to last a long time like the GTX470 or its bitch the ATI5850 or the current gaming default card the GTX460.

This is just a temp solution until I get a job and pick up a new PC.
SLI GTX460 are fairly powerful.
Oh btw miqo'te bewbs are all the same size regardless of the face you take (thry look B cups) unlike hyur and elz with each face having a different cup size.

America's hat always gets the shaft =/ sorry pal but atleast you now have newegg.ca... well think its been up for a while now but yea lol.Originally posted by Malacite View Posto.O When the hell did NewEgg put up a CA site? About damn time.
Anyway how do I even know which one to take?
---------- Post added at 09:40 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:34 AM ----------
So will this work well for me?
Newegg.ca - GIGABYTE GV-N460D5-768I-B GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 768MB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
At $199.99 plus shipping that's still expensive, but I can't afford to go over that.
That should be fine I'm personally waiting for this card to go lower!
Newegg.com - ASUS EAH5850 DIRECTCU/2DIS/1GD5 Radeon HD 5850 (Cypress Pro) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card w/ Eyefinity
Waiting another month to see if prices/deals occur before i buy it though, hell if theres a good enough deal on a the 5870 I might buy that instead. I have to have a new card before FFXIV so in a month, definitely buying one.

Re: Guide: Building a PC to play FFXIV
GTX460, 199$ great cardOriginally posted by Hypnotiq View PostSo this week I will be finishing my build!! Specs and prices posted! "If free it means i alrdy had and will be reusing"
i7 930 - 199.99
P6X58D-E - 179.99
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB HD - 36.99
DvD - 17.99
OCZ Gold 6GB Tri channel - 119.99
Antec 902 - 79.99
Dynex thermal - 9.99
750W PSU - free
XFX Nvidia 8800GTX SC - free
has anyone checked the FFXIV benchmark with a old 8800GTX?? ill know Friday what I benchmark but just curious to whether any one else has used or not. But so far its not bad I paid about 730 bucks for this set up and i figure in 250 more for a decent Graphic card that I will get once ffxiv get closer to release.. (Always wait for price drops lol)
Important question.. I put the heatsink/CPU in and then turned it on for maybe 30 seconds (i didnt have a HD in I was just testing to see if the system would turn on.) After that I remoeved the heatsink and the thermal grease is kinda grey color.. Is it ok that I put it back on with out scrapping the old off and putting on a new layer of grease?? or should i just put on a new layer
Thank you very much for this important information
