Re: Manqo'te
I always roll female characters.
I consider it a chance to sort of create my own ideal woman. My idea of an attractive woman is generally different from what the socially accepted norm of an attractive woman is, so I like being given the chance to create what I define as an attractive woman. My girlfriend has somewhat similar taste so I usually submit my designs to her for approval if she is around at the time.
There isn't always that much freedom in every character creation system, but I do what I can with what I am given to work with. Aion's character creation was basically fuckwin awesome in this department. I wish I had some decent screen shots of my character, but the only ones I took were pretty much fully armored so they show little character detail.

Re: Manqo'te
The "Times are Tough" line got me good.
You either reflect yourself in your character
or reflect your character in yourself.
Which is why i played with a male avatar in XI.

Re: Manqo'te
For the record, with the exception of FFXI and EVE, I've always rolled female avatars. I really don't understand how anyone can see their character as a pure reflection of themselves without being a little bit crazy. Extension, sure, but expecting your character to be as close to you as possible strikes me as a bit creepy. People asking about your gender are rarely annoying, also blacklists. If they really give a damn about your parts in real life, they're not people you want to be hanging around anyway.

Re: Manqo'te
Back on my first MMO which was city of heroes, I played a female character.
It's funny how 2 spherical graphics can grant you so much attention.
I even aqquired a hubby of sorts called Electric Cyclops. He was polite, defended my honor and treated me like a lady.
I never did have the heart to tell him I was male.
When it came to ffxi I decided to play a male avatar.
I think it partly comes down to the game itself how characters are chosen.
City of heroes lets you create your own superhero so your imagination can run wild.
We're a bit limited in ffxi with the exeption of roleplay. Which is why many of us chose either avatars we liked.
I'm liking the idea that 14 has a broad range to create our avatars. We'll have a little more individuality and diversity amongst groups and finally LS "or the 14 equivalent" photo's wont be so generic and we'll have more chance to pick people out of a crowd.
I remember a pt once when 5/6 of us had the exact same character model. Which was weird.

Re: Manqo'te
Oh God... Already people talking about "Manqo'te". What ever the hell that is. I know what a Miqo'te is, but a "Manqo'te"? What the hell is that?
[/sarcasm]
Why would somebody change the name of something that obviously doesn't exist just to make it more masculine sounding. Just keep the name the same and just say "Hey, I'm a male." Not "Hey, I'm a Manthra! Uh Duh!" I just hate the term, its stupid sounding and really has no sense to it. As you would have to change Galka to Girlka if you wanted it to be a female.Last edited by Takelli; 04-12-2010, 05:21 PM.

Re: Manqo'te
My first, and most beloved, character was a Mithra. My sons character was a Mithra. I don't think that either of us will be playing a Chakotay....or whatever they are called.

Re: Manqo'te
I would like to play as a manqo'te, but probably won't.
I don't really like living vicariously or playing pretend though, and much as i wanted to play mantra for the stats in XI, i just found it too creepy.

Re: Manqo'te
I hate the term Manthra to be honest, my character in FFXI is Kailea a female Mithra, just because I am a guy in RL does not mean my character is... I know that sounds odd, but it does urk me.
long answer short, no I will not be venturing out into FFXIV as a... Manqo'te... bleh that sounds horrid....
