  • Who here actually likes how the new summosn work?

I so far, think they are completely useless.
Of course I havent seen how much damage odin can do...or how much defensive alexander can get but just....having to waste your 2hours for one attack/buff....seems pretty bleh.

A lot is still being figured out about them.

As far as things figured out now:
    Perfect defense:
Duration is influenced by smn magic skill upon use with a minimum of 1 minute and 1:30 as max.
Defense starts at -95% damage taken and declines over time going from 95 to 85 to 75, etc.

    Zantetsuken:
On normal mobs it's absolutely useless, yes it one shots them... great!
Accuracy when multiple mobs are in range becomes crappier the higher level the mobs are.

On NMs: It won't one shot them but depending on the mob's HP it can go from crap to amazing.
On some besieged NMs and Krabkatoa (one of the new HNMs) it did about 2000 damage, but there are screenshots of it doing over 7300 damage to Odin in Einherjar and 9999 damage to one of the Campaign NMs.

General consensus is, the more HP the NM has, the more damage it does.
What needs to be figured out if the damage is proportional to the remaining HP of the NM or the total HP.

Both avatars seem to have been build specifically for HNM/Endgame fights.

Would this be the first time we've seen a damage cap reached in FFXI? Obviously we've seen Tonberries have silly grudges against players going well into the teen-thousand range, but it could follow FFX in players being capped to 9999 (generally), without the same applying to enemies.

Right now I only see them useful in HNM/God/EG zerg events. I'd like to see how they deal damage against Kirin and Odin firsthand

An important question...can you pull of multiple attacks like people can do with other summons during astral flow?

Or is it just the one attack?

Once you use the attack, your astral flow effect wears off, doesn't last the full 3 min

After you use the attack does the avatar stick around or does it disappear?

im pretty sure that if the astral flow effect wears off, so does the avatar, what else would it be doing standing around there?

most importantly, can you use multiple avatars? like start off with Ifrit and finish with Odin?

Well, it would be nice if Odin stuck around to tank the mob(s) that it was not able to kill so the Smn would have time to do something to survive.

                    No.

You use Astral flow, then you target a mob and summon Odin like you were casting a spell on a target, Odin appears readies and does Zantetsuken and disappears right after with your MP at 0 and Astral flow effect gone.

Unless; the mob you want to hit dies before it goes off or goes out of range.
Then Odin just appears and disappears again with your 2 hour effect and MP pool intact so you can summon him again on a living target.

Also the damage dealt is proportionate to the remaining hitpoints of the NM fought not the total.
SE thought this one through pretty well, yes it can do a lot of damage, no you won't be able to quickly kill something by just throwing an army of Odins at it.

No, that would be just coincidental.
A friend of mine has been playing with it in Besiegeds and claims to have broken over 13k damage on those zombies. (Qutrub)
I've also seen skillchains break those numbers, and remember a screenshot from a few years back of Flaming crush breaking 12k on a Qutrub NM in arrapago reef.

Well there goes my idea of 6x SMN all calling Odin at once >.> (though if the timing is very close it could still theoretically work)

Qutrubs have a damage multiplier though, and supposing there is a cap, it's possible that their damage multiplier is applied after the 9999 damage cap.

IIRC, Didn't a DRK do a 13,000 damage Light SC a long time ago? Pretty sure the damage cap is not 9999, at least not for skill chains.

                              EDIT: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Moshdahn

                              # Also extremely vulnerable to Ifrit's Flaming Crush due its low DEF and fire weakness. This dealt over 13000 damage two times, 10939 another time, and only about 2600 in one particular Flaming Crush.
