Edit - Going to compact some info for spam sake.

Testing the usefulness of Physical Earring x2, 1x Bomb Ring (rare) in the level 20 capped battles against the Avatars.

Hume Female, Smn 20/ Whm 10

    What i used:
    Weapon: Hermits Wand
    Body: Nomads Tunica
    Head: Compound Eye Circlet
Neck: Justice Badge (or could use Bloodbead Amulet)
    Back: Mist Silk Cape
    Feet: Light Solea
    Waist: Heko Obi +1
    Hands: Scentless Armlets
    Legs: Black Slacks
    Rings: Bomb Ring, Tranquility Ring
    Earrings: Physical Earring x2

Most of these items are very cheap, excepting Mist Silk Cape which doesnt really play a big part in my experiment. Its mostly all about -MP for +HP, Evasion, and spell interrupt down.
The latter two are obvious choices for the avatar battles, but nobody seemed to mention Bomb Ring and Physical Earring.

Since Maximum MP does not play a major role in these capped fights due to searing light, i am cutting all my MP down to + up my HP.

Gonna test this on Two Avatars, using:

    Steamed Crab
    Hi-Potion x 2
    Hi-Ether x2
    Yagudo Drink x2

    Results posted ASAP

        Results: Absolute Success!

Vs. Garuda: I was dominating the entire fight, even after an Aerial Blast and an Aero II directed at me, one after the other. Just about to hit the Hi-Potion macro (CTRL+1) and then do the Final finishing Searing Light, but i slipped and hit CTRL+ESC instead, losing full screen mode. Bummer. But i am 100% sure that i would have won that battle if i did not lose full screen, i was seconds away from victory. So experiment against Garuda i count as a success.

Vs. Titan: Absolute pisstake. Titan was an utter pushover.
My First Searing Light only did 104 damage, Titan obviously resisted the spell even though it was lightsday, so the battle started off looking grim. However, because of my stupid amount of HP, I lived through a rock throw, Rage of the Earth and a few hits with Added effect damage quite easily.
After 2 more (successful) Searing Lights he was on about 1/5 HP and i let carbuncle beat him down slowly from there, finishing him with a quick Banish.

Clear time was about 5 minutes 30 seconds (wasnt paying attention), and i had 254 HP and 32 MP left at the end, using all items but a Hi-Potion.

This is a slightly more expensive way to win, but i think it will increase your chances of success a lot, meaning no wasted potions etc. I used the 3 Searing Light method shown at This Site

Only Bomb Ring is, and he said to only equip one.

          Congrats and good job.

Alright, beat Garuda last night, no trouble at all.
In fact my HP was so little of a problem, i purposefully used a Hi-Potion to draw hate off of carbuncle while he did the second Searing Light, as he was pretty badly hurt.
Once again, the first searing light only did 104 damage!
This didnt seem to cause any problems though, even if it did extend my completion time by about 1 minute 30.
Im sure if the first searing light wasnt resisted i would have easily broken the current record on leviathan of just under 4 minutes.
My time was 4:53. Count how long it takes for carbuncle to do 106 damage with plain 'ol melee :p

I will try Ifrit in 9 hours after i get some sleep.

EDIT - Beat Ifrit just moments ago.
Of course for this fight i had to take off the Bomb Ring in fear of Inferno, which was lucky because i didnt manage to escape its blast radius. Pretty much went smooth, though he had a lot of hate for me because i had to use a hi-potion after iInferno and i was very close. Clear time four minutes exactly. Server record was 3 minutes 55 seconds.

I have a question, since youre doing the lv29 avatar quests, DO you have to be lv 20? or like say im lv 1 and i fight titan, will it cap me to 20?

I think this would be a dream of everyone, lol. But no, this is similiar to any BCNM fight from my understanding. If you're level 20+, when you enter the Colister of whatever you'll become level 20. If you go in the Colister as a level 1-19 summoner, you'd still be that level.

Another thing that does help (an LS friend suggested) if youre really intent on winning is "Persikos au lait", it gives you a regen effect for 10 minutes (4hp/3sec). Costs 2000 gil a pouch on my server.

This does not go over Yagudo drink as youre allowed an MP drink and an HP drink on at the same time.

I just wanted to thank the original poster of this thread for the invaluable information contained herein.

If anyone is looking for a way to defeat the LV20 Avatar Primes, this method is surefire.

I am now the proud owner of all 6 Avatars, plus Carbuncle.

My hardest battle was probably Ifrit. But the only reason it was hard was because I lost aggro to him and he regenerated all of his HP after I got him down to nearly half by working away at him with just Carbuncle attacking.

Ramuh's paralyze was pretty annoying and it made me lose one of my shots from my 2hr, but I luckily got in all 3.

Leviathan tried to pull some funny stuff on me. He would throw that Tail Whip down on Carbuncle and cause Gravity then come chase me and leave Carbuncle behind. =/ All of this happened while I was running away and not "really" looking much.

Otherwise, these battles are a breeze. With using everything Gatts says to use, you're surefire to win these battles. ^^

                      Excellent Post A++

(On a side note*) Leaving the Bomb Ring on during the battle with Ifrit wasn't really all that bad. (I actually forgot to take it off!) I remember getting hit by some kind of fire something, but I just chugged a Hi-Pot and I was good as new. It helps to stay away from him though, which is what I did.

                      [b]

                      Goodbye everyone.

                          For items its:

                          /item "Item Name"

                          For example:
                          /item "Pineapple Juice"

For Carbuncle's Searing Light it is:

                          /ja "Searing Light" <t>
<t> can be change to <stnpc>
                          <t> - Target
<stnpc> - Sub Target NPC (Non-Player Character [mobs])

thanks to this method, i now own Titan (which i fought on EARTHSDAY w/ only 1 yag drink and 1 hi potion)

It helped me survive Earthen Fury, and helped me dodge a few hits when carb died to Fury, giving me the opportunity to summon again for last searing. (by the time at got carb back out, i had just entered yellow range hp).
The gil for these items is easily obtainable in a few hours, so i recomend that anyone attempting these fights get them.

                            **Edit**
Just beat Shiva, though she was harder because of her ice spikes.
I won with 45 hp left, but than again i would have died with my old avatar fight gear. 2-0 with set up; 2-11 old eq

*bump* I saw this startagy a while ago and recently used it to fight the 20 avatars. Using the stratagy here I easy obtained server records on 3/6 of the battles. This stratagy works VERY well (even though I didn't have bomb ring, only earrings) and I highly recomend it to anyone having trouble with the avatars. The only times I ran into problems was because I did something VERY wrong. Hope the bump helps ^^
Destiny is calling...will I be able to answer?
