  • A taru, a monk?

do tarus make good monks or are they just mages?
Also, i know this is the wrong place to ask this but do they make decent warriors? or at least so they dont die a lot?

I've seen quite a few effective Taru Monks, though because of their low str, their punches don't have the same zing on them compared to the other races, and they can't take quite as many hits. Non the less, they can be effective, yes. They have good dex and agility, which always helps.

As for Warrior, I'd say the same applys really. I've seen lots of Taur Warriors and they seem perfectly comfortable with less str and vit, but it is something you have to think about.

In both cases, taking Thief as a sub job would probably be a good idea.

I would say the biggest pro of a tarutaru warrior is the viability of a mage sub.

maybe a redmage, as they've got the best phsyisal stats of spellcasters.

if you ask me taru's make great monks...
now you gotta think about it...
i honestly wouldn't play taru unless you enjoy being a caster...
but then you ain't gonna wanna do that all the time...
feel free to lvl up your monk cause taru's have good evasion and acurasy and when combined with whm sub there not to bad at solo'ing either to a certain extent

          As of right now I play a taru mnk/war, and I must say that it is quite fun. Sure it's not as powerful as other races, but you get the whole novelty factor of being small and running up to something and punching it. When in a PT I usually act as the puller, but I can add as a tank when necessary. Sure taru don't have much HP but they have decent agility, and with some evasion boosting equipment you can dodge a decent amount of attacks. I've never had a night where I've regretted my choice of being a taru monk, it's just so damn fun. ;

Thanks Boss_Tuff, you've finalised my thoughts of being a Taru monk to start with. What's it like starting off?

I started out life as a Tarutaru MNK and to be quite honest, I loved every moment of it. Still pondering if I will sub mnk to my current class or what, but that's a decision I need to make soon. Currently I am a 21 SAM/10 War. Don't let the taruhaters get you down. It's all jealousy..something so small kicking so much tail (or ankles if you prefer).

Still unsure if I'm going to go mnk/sam or sam/?? for my final selection.

With good gear, a good attitude and the determination to work within the limits of being a taru melee, you can truly shine.

I was in an all taru group the other night, and it was an absolute blast. I haven't had that much fun in a long time.

Once you go taru, you'll never go back

It's actually really fun right from the get go. Everyone looks at you and thinks you're the coolest thing because well, you're a taru monk. It's not hard to get a party because people want the novelty of that in their party. After a while you can build up a reputation as being "The taru monk" which is really cool to have. Anyway, I'm happy that you've decided to join our brotherhood. Welcome and may you never go back. ^^

Well, speaking from experience (see race and level), it's effective, yes, but oh so fun! I find better effectiveness subbing a mage class, just for additional assistance. Red Mage and White Mage, I'd say, are good (though I've only had experience with Red Mage sub). Using the Red Mage seemed to give me so few MP, but it gives me a nice 30 or 40-something HP boost.

                    WHAO! Tangent!!!!!!

Anyhow, best when you got a sub, otherwise, it can be effective alone. But if you're going to do it, do it not for the numbers, but because it's funny as heck to see a munchkin beating down something 4 times his/her size!

Taru makes a good "non tanking job"

So basically anything but warrior and pld. If someone told you a taru mnk, drk, drk, thf, or any other melee job out there sux.. just tell them " YOU SUCK!"

Now with the right equipment the taru can pull off being an awesome tank. HP items are easier to come by than MP.

You can be anything you want to be. That's the benefit you get as your first right.

                            Re: A taru, a monk?

Here is a post by Awntawn, a level 75 dark knight. I think this post sums up the idea of a taru monk nicely.

Now I know some people may have crappier equipment, but when a monk of the same level as me subbed WAR does less damage than me through regular hits on BONES, that's where the line is drawn. That makes it less damage on WS AND less damage on WS and therefore 100% inferior in every way, and on something that their job is supposed to be strong vs. Damage was like half of the elv's that I've partied with, no bullshit.

Taru monk is the only melee class that we we have to say no to. Every other taru melee EQ can make up for it pretty well, but for MNK... no >.>
I simply would not suggest it. It will be fun in early levels, yes, but post 40, it is very hard for melee to get parties, and it would be even harder for a taru monk. Taru can be fine with almost any melee job, but monks heavily rely on strength for damage output, and that is where a taru will not be able to make up with food or equipment. I wouldn't suggest raising unless you have a lot of time on your hands or you don't plan on taking it all the way.

I believe taru monks are the best. Simply for one reason and one reason only. Good god man just watch them fight. I wish I could do backhands etc like that. mmmm tarus would make nice brawlers. Vicious little demons.
