  • Monk V. Dark Knight

This question goes out to the experienced high level'd monks out there.

How do monks compare in terms of damage over time to darks? Cuz i've heard that before this most recent patch, monks did about equal to greater damage over time compared to drk's. But with this latest patch, drk's post 75 are the strongest attackers...So does anyone have some knowledge about monks after 70 as compared to drk's?

    thanks in advance =)

Actually, it seems that once monks get 71+ and the new lvl 250 weapon skill 'Dream Asura' (8 hit WS), that they can out damage drks now.

So it seems like thf deal the most dmg middle game, drk/drg deal the most late game, then monks take over 71+

So it seems that the tables are always changing and every job is an update away from being on top (except rangers :p )

i've heard that from 60-70, drk, drg, and monk are all about equal, and from 1-60, monks are usually ahead of drk. Thf's i dunno, depends on the skill of player, and im not sure how much dmg they do now after the patch.

The patch never affected Thief's damage. Its just now instead they have to do Fuidama (Sneak Atk + Trick Atk) directly behind the mob, since before they could get away with doing it from the sides a bit...

yes but taking more time to position and all that means it takes more skill to sneak+trick. Which means it wont happen as often during fights, which means less Damage over time.

umm not really. u usually only get to do sneak + trick attack at most 2 times per a fight. and since u are a thief u are always behind the monster even at the beginning of a fight.

i cant fully answer your question since im not a mnk but mnks and drk do pretty equal dmg(mnk does more dmg then a drk when they get ragging fists) on a total scale i would say MNK>DRK at leats till 60 but not by much. also DRKs have drain spells and magic wich can do like 50+ish between a delay, if they where to go all out i have no clue who would win actually..

you mention drains/aspir's inbetween swings, does casting interuppt your attack? cuz i know w/ monks, using boost will take the place of an attack, which pretty much lowers your overall damage, i would think the same is true for casting spells inbetween attacks?

Re: Boost takes place of attack...
I think this claim is dubious at best. As far as i know boost does nothing to your attack delay, but may cause you to skip seeing the attack animation (but the attack still takes place).
Consider that attack delay is a standard number...say 400 for a monk (i can't remember what it is exactly). This means that once your attack is complete a timer is going to count down from 400, and when it reaches 0, you will attack again. I haven't witnessed anything that makes me think that casting boost (or anything else) would "reset" this counter. In fact, if this was true, than after boost you would always be forced wait the standard wait time for an attack post-boost before attacking again. But, it seems to be rather random re: the time after boost-ing and the time of next attacks occurence...not a stable fixed number, which is what would happen if boost overwrote attack timer.
But i could be wrong...this is just my observations.
Perhaps it is something like a "pause" in the countdown timer...but i'm not sure i've seen any evidence for that...
Oh well, i'm open for anything.

it causes your animation to be skipped, I know for a fact

well, maybe if you use boost RIGHT when you're suppost to normally attack, it will delay it, but then you shouldn't do that

like... my RDM casts dia/cure etc. between swordswings, it's convenient and it works

every time i boost in combat, i skip an attack turn. People claim they still attack even though they dont get the animation, but i have yet to see that.

a watched pot never boils, you're just paying more attention than usual to your attack intervals when you use boost.
When I wait for bost to cool down, it takes forever, but when I'm walking around and using boost randomly, it seems to fill in mere seconds, but it doesn't change, just our preception.
