What do there need to be more of?

I'm planning on starting FFXI soon and I want to be a job that is uncommon among servers tell me which u think is like the top three most uncommon jobs

As far as why rangers & ninjas are so rare, it's because they're the only two jobs in the game that requires constant gil farming/acquisition to level. Rangers use ammo which will grow to be very costly and time consuming; ninjas are only good if they use their ninjitsu, which then requires components to cast (which isn't as expensive as ranger ammo, but still up there).

Whereas all the other jobs, once they reach 75, only has to buy food to eat for whatever they're doing (not that much gil), rangers and ninjas must both either 1) make or 2) buy ammo/components to even think about getting to 75 to begin with. I'm not sure, but from what I can tell from a LS ranger, the cost can run up to several hundred thousand gil per level (we're level 61 now); I'm pretty sure ninjas can run pretty high up on cost, too.

As far as to why bards are the rarest, well, most people find it boring.

All depends on the level. Way back when I was leveling in Qufim there weren't nearly enough white mages around. Now, at 66, when I do a search of those seeking a group, all I see are white mages.

Summoner is a pretty rare job. Summoners are cool ‘n all but they don’t bring much to an XP group. They can do a lot for a raid however.

Ninja... I wouldn't touch ninja until SE does whatever it is they plan to do with Utsusemi. Rare job though.
EDIT: Forgot to add. Warriors can sub ninja at 74 and gain the use of Utsusemi: Ni, the key to blink-tanking. Sad times for the ninja class indeed.

Bard. Can never have enough bards around. The only job played less than BRD is SMN.

Ranger. Out-damages every other job at any level hands-down. The cost of maintaining an ammo supply is the reason you don't see many of these. If you want to play a ranger, expect to spend the majority of your non-xp time farming gil to pay for your arrows.

Scamurai. I’m not sure what to say here. They’re rare for a good reason. If you want to participate in the high-end… Don’t drop in with the scamurai unless you think SE might get around to a balancing. That’s my advice. If you don’t plan on going much further than 50 you won’t have any serious issues here.

Warrior/Ninja's get Utsusemi Ni for one whole level. Whoop Dee doo. :D By the time the level cap is raised in the far future there will probably be some changes by then. Ninja's have higher evasion and ninjutsu to help reduce hits too, Warrior's just hit harder and take AOE's better. Essentially they do the same thing with blink though, just different ways of doing it it sounds.


The absolute rarest class is probably Beastmaster in my experience, but Bard, Ninja, and Rng are pretty correct. There used to be quite a few english speaking Ninja's in parties at my level but I've noticed as I passed the 40's that started to change real quick. Now I'm considered a somewhat rare class at this level. Even among Japanese player's Ninja's arn't enormously abundant (Though I've noticed a lot have taken up the job lately, alot for Ninja numbers anyways)

Ninja's pretty damn expensive, some say it may be more expensive than Ranger if you play it to its fullest. I don't recommend tackling either of these jobs unless you know what your getting into and are prepared for the gil problems. But its definitely doable.

Bard's can get to the 70's in record times because they're such a wanted job, and are rare at the same time.

WHM is rare at certain lvls as staited, i remeber signing on once and seeing 4 whm and 2 didnt find a group for at least an hour. Ranger is extremely rare and most of the time they wont use ammo b/c too expensive (equaling bad ranger). I have seen a few ninjas, but overal not many. But Bards, Sam, and Drg appear very rare. Remeber that it is not the class or rarity, but the skill of the player! I have seen WHM get banned for being newbish.
