Now that would be wicked dmg, i cant wait to see what PvP is going to be like in this game DRK/THF running around spamming Guill and Sneak (pretty much all we can say is ONE SHOT) it would be WTFPWNED.
Why earn money the hard way, When you can steal from those that earned it that way.
I laugh at disbelievers of THF, you can go off in your n00by world if you think they aren't strong. Also, I do more damage thank monks using combo easily with a normal hit with sneak.
Damage log is like this
MNK uses boost
MNK readies combo
MNK uses combo
Goblin takes 40 damage
THF use sneak attack
THF scores a critical hit
Goblin takes 63 points of damage
ok Nameless what lvl is your Thief these days?
and i think both of us were talking about the high end of the game when all the good WS come into play and lower lvls theif will out dmg a monk or a DRK but in the high end i would say with Guil+Sneak he would beat us.:dead:

Monk become really high on the damage scale in the end, they can dish out about 160 in their two attacks, which happen faster and faster as you level. Not to mention they can tameru>tameru>tameru (boost) a lot until they're attack is ridiculously high and bust a Rangeki (5 hit WS) for much damage. Which of course they can build TP faster than Theif because they hit more often. I'm not downing thief over monk. I'm just saying monk is very good damage.
Taking pure damage into account, no abilities, no weapon skills, I would rank 'em like this:
1. RNG
2. DRK
3. MNK
4. DRG
5. WAR
6. BST
7. SAM
8. NIN
9. THF
10. PLD
11. RDM
12. SMN
13. BRD
14. WHM
15. BLM
Not sure about anything else, but how in the Nine does a Black Mage end up at the *bottom* of a list of damage-dealers? Are you not counting spells at all? Why bother including casters in that list at all (with the exception of Red Mage, who would then probably be at the bottom)?
Koyasha, Paladin, Red Mage, White Mage...

1200 with dancing edge along with sneak attack and trick attack damage is what 800? 2000 will beat anything monk does.
(supposing it's for lvl 60)
1200 for Danceing Edge - overestimated. it's about 800 on average. 1200 is something u see only when u get triple attack together w/ ws, but even when u get full hits + triple attack, normally it stays below 1200; around 1100 i've seen. 800 for normal Fuidama is also way overestimated, too. it's about 400. and note that damage from normal attack is like 25 or so per hit, w/ about 200 weapon delay.
now, as for mnk, the damage from normal attack is around 50 per hit, so for both hands around 100. (using Bone Patas +1) and the weapon delay is 320+86, so 406.
now, supposing the normal fight has a duration of 2 min, what thf and mnk can do;
dmg from normal attack;
mnk - 100 about every 4 seconds - 3000
thf - 25 about every 2 seconds - 1500
of course this is only a rough sketch and in no way reflect the actual tests done by japanese forum members, but this should explain the reason why mnk does more OVERALL damage than thf.
lots of ppl here r just forgetting about how strong mnk and drk's normal attacks can be, w/ ur eyes misled by the thf's fuidama and ws' "one time" large damage.
let me say again, my post earlier in this thread is based on the test conducted by a number of people, and has a history of more than a year. it's not based on what they think nor what they hope, but it's rather based on the actual numbers.
btw, the result did include the abilities each jobs would use in normal battles, thus thf did use fuidama, and drk didn't use souleater all the way. w/ that fact taken, mnk did the most damage in that test. (rng didn't take part in this since the test was to find out which jobs have most contiguous physical damage.) and the test was to gather all the damage points out of 7-hour fights, then added them to find out what the overall damage was for each. the reason for drk doing less damage than mnk was longer weapon delay of the scythe. and also that mnk hits twice, so eventually more chance to hit. whereas for drk, one miss results in lots more decrease in damage. (if both mnk and drk didn't miss at all, the result might have changed. but saying "what if" doesn't change the actual outcome, u know.)
Originally posted by Voodoo187 The Thief's ability for Sneak Attack only has a 1 minute cool down time in the mean time while you wait for that one minute to go by you build up TP for Glancing edge pumping that out jsut as a DRG would Penta.
Yeah over time the Thief doesnt do alot of dmg poking the monster but every 1 minute is a massive dmg time for the Thief.
actually a dragoon could do penta thrust about once every 7 seconds if not fast. And with our jumping abilities agro isn't much cause for concern.

Your missing one very important aspect of the game. WS's are apart of fighting. Never EVER will you see any fighter class fight without WS's. You can't factor out WSs, thats like saying "no! I mean which class does the most damage without a weapon equip! MOnKZ!".
Never in a million years will a monk outdamage a samurai, thief, or dragoon. the 100 fist 2hr ability is the ONLY time a monk is an execptional offensive force.
I screw around and make fun of thief all the time (ask the Thief in my LS, hi guys! ) But only a fool would refuse to see the kind of damage they can pull off a WS. after 60 it's pretty consistantly said ranger, then drk, then dragoon so i'll stick with that, but thief are up there someplace to, and monk are not.
Yokodama si going AWAY, no more yokodama soon, that will put thief on the same tier as monk. I don't see how thief will be able to do dancing + sneak and not get reemed for it. and trick + dancing is a flee bite.
Please don't ever say monk out damage ranger, dragoon, dark knight or thief please..... monk don't even come close.
