Ahh, I didn't know that stuff had died off so much, though I suppose it's not all that surprising. And the fact that there's a better alternative out there. Double attack is sweet as hell for skilling up though.

It's Hope. Jailer of Hope, Hope Staff. (Pardon that, it popped into my head, and I wrote it exactly as I thought it. Lol)

Anyway, yeah, see if you can find a linkshell to let you grab it or even pay 100k for it or something, the double attack procs pretty often as long as you have the virtue stones equipped and it will skill you up much faster. I had plans to do that on my SMN since WHM and BLM can't equip that staff (they get the Prudence Rod) but I never got around to it.

Now with the extra skill points, however they're adjusting the rate, having the extra double attack would be even more awesome. Since staff was an absolute bitch to level. On the rare occasion I bothered to try.
I think I looked into it once before. Sadly, on Valefor... there are hardly any LS' going into either Sky or Sea at all anymore. Bazaars are no longer filled with seals for sky or organs from sea... people actually have to shout for hours in Jeuno to find someone willing to sell a genbu seal... it's ridiculous. I remember when everyone and their pregnant grandfather had one of those puppies in their Bazaar. I think I'd rather not bother paying someone 100k to get a staff I can make with the Magian Trials for nothing more than a time investment. The magian one comes out with 2-3 extra if you choose the right path. From what i remember there are no VNMs involved either... it's just kill grinding.

I do appreciate the suggestion tho... but it just seems unlikely for me to find some LS going to Jailer of Hope... let alone one that will let me pay them for the staff drop. That being said, I'll still ask anyone who shouts that they're going to kill him... It would be an awsome addition to my museum of collectables.

I should redecorate my MH. I like white... yeah white. How much are screens and tables now...? *checks*

    It's happening.... time to renovate.

*movin on up... mooooovin on up. To the east side...*

I've capped my Summoning Magic Skill. I know the slow and drawn out progression. I've sat in an abyssea party for 8+ hours, spamming Pred. Claws every 45 seconds and walked out with +2.3 skill points in the category.

I have lots of sympathy for PUP and their terrible fate of skilling not only themselves, but their pups as well. I feel for you...

As for myself currently... I'm working on Ninjitsu, katana, g katana, parry, evasion and staff at the moment. Now that I have some fairly decent gear and I'm starting to get my skills up a bit farther, I've been dedicating a few hours a week to sitting in Wajoam Woodlands letting Colibri wack at me for a while to boost my eva/parry skills. It gets boring, but it gets the job done. I can't rely on skilling those 2 in abyssea since hardly ever have hate... and AoEs are few and far between. Katana is going up slowly but steadily... and staff is a nightmare and ninjitsu is just expensive and timely.

Ninjitsu... I've just bought 4 stacks of Raiton tools and have been slowly making my way through all the mobs that I cap my gain on and letting the timer do all the work. I macro'd in a loop of commands to keep the raiton coming. My eva and parry are high enough that i can sit there and idle while I work on the skill. It's slow... but it'll get there. Once I can land on abyssea mobs, I'll move the skill-ups to them, but until then, I dont expect to do much besides grind from Quifim -> Jungle -> Citadel -> Woodlands -> Terrigan and eventually finish.

What I need is a magian 2-3 hit staff and an old fassioned skill up party at the tree. For katana... it's just a matter of time... but the Double Attk/Tripple Attk and haste I get in abyssea helps those skills come faster and faster.

I think it's a welcome (and totally long verdue) change that will help me out in every one of these skills. I can't wait. What day is it set for? Or is it confirmed yet?

That still won't be nearly enough. Campaign is, for all intents & purposes dead unless SE jacks up the rewards extremely.

I always did pretty well on guard, of course, fewer skills are slower to get the summoning magic...

I didn't know that. Thanks. The only thing I knew about guard was that it was a bitch to level. XD

(Perhaps useful in Salvage, but I've never really seen anyone struggle without it.)

Guard reduces damage taken by quite a lot, also can nullify TP moves entirely. Since monk has turned into a tank in a lot of abyssea situations, it's actually quite useful and will proc often the higher your skill level is.

Considering how many jobs you can level up and how many of those are "required" as subs I think this was very overdue. Kinda late, but still welcomed.

Hopefully the game will keep getting better for my return once the level cap is rised to 99. Too many jobs and things for me to catch up by then.

PS > Oh and leveling enhancing and sword skill was one of the things that made me quit this time, so hopefully that's resolved now.

Which is why I'm so happy it doesn't exist in 14. Your stats simply go up as you level.

I was really hoping they'd adjust Guard & Parry though, ugh. Those two skills are such a nightmare to level (and so is summoning magic for that matter) but maybe this means I can sit there and cycle avatars and get .5's now?

Note that when they said faster rate, they seemed to imply just bigger numbers per skill up - they didn't say shit about the actual rate of said skill ups occurring. And that's the biggest god damn problem. It should not have taken me over 2 hours to cap my great katana in an Abys. EXP PT using Soboro and spamming Tachi: Rana. That's a bit insane for 30-something skill levels.

Abyssea let that cat out of the bag and its not going back in. This change might make it a little easer to actually get parties between 30 and 50 for those of us who do not think 'woo abyssea leach' the moment they hit 30; though, as I said before, I doubt it.

As much as I hate to keep playing the comparison game, I do love how they removed the need to level up your weapon skills in WoW. Not that it was hard to level in the first place, but it was just annoying if you wanted to switch to two-handed sword after using axes for 80 levels.

Seems some skills shouldn't really need leveled. Parry? Guard (lol guard yeah I've heard stories about that shit). It should just be a passive ability, and if it's a B+ skill on X job, and when you level up, you gain the skill points automatically. So many people are maxers and want to see those blue numbers, parry, guard, shield (for some), evasion (for some) are tough to skill up as there's no real good way to do it unless you do a lot of tanking. Then again, the bonuses (if there are any) from having these skills leveled might then need to be looked at, but I can't remember when having your guarding skill at cap really made that much of a noticeable difference, and it's certainly not a requirement that I've ever seen. The entire skill system could stand to be reworked. It still irked the hell out of me that BLMs could enfeeble an HNM as well as I could on RDM with capped merits + gear because all they had to do was ES it - which was basically what a RDM needed to do, as well. Skill levels should matter on things like that. I've always felt the skill system was kind of retarded. But it is nice anyway that people who wish to cap their skills are going to have an easier time doing so, especially because of how much harder it is to get an actual party at your actual level ever since Sync and of course on through SMN burning and now Abyssea.

I could agree to some extent with leveling, but skilling up is entirely mindless and took so long you can't help but feel you're a masochist. At least leveling serves some practical purpose.
