If I remember correctly, when fishing any message ending with !!! is a monster. So you want to cancel fishing if you get that, you only want one !.

Need someone with regular fishing experience though to confirm that, I only dabble in fishing.

Ah, so I'm just a fishing noob, then. Yeah, I just looked that up on wiki, you're right. I still have my bait and I'm already up to 3 fame from willow rods.

EDIT: wow I got like six !!! in a row (not counting no-results) before I got a !, but that does seem to work.

EDIT2: I was doing okay until a big group came in casting spells all over the place (no WHM = Protect/Shell IV cast on everybody one at a time). Seems they were there to fish up an NM. Yeah, well all that spell spam scrolled the "Something caught the hook!!!" off the chat log (non-scrollable in fishing mode) and I barely escaped with my life after fishing up a crab.

EDIT3: that taru fishing next to me is getting them a lot faster than I am... probably has the moghancement... ugh, more crap to do so I can do more crap

EDIT4: dammit I needed a rusty bucket months ago... the slow hook rate was why I never bothered with fishing. I'm fishing up rusty stuff much faster now.

i did it again with the same gear and time my kills and totaled them up to see how much time i wasted kill these stupid crabs. i dont remember exact numbers but it was something like 15min or so out of an hour (+6min cuz of key item). Thats probably at least 3-4 more rusty items i could have fished up.

I just gave up and did the quest with the broken willow fishing rod.

And I just realized after repairing two dozen of them that it's cheaper to buy a new one and throw the old one away than to waste a Light Crystal on them. ; ;

EDIT: nvm, the merchant in Bstok wants 500 gil per rod. So it really is cheaper to burn the light crystals.

With the ability to Stun, wouldn't DNC be able to?

Come to think of it... I might on DNC. I went up there on a exploration run... and attempted solo'n the little "cute" flyers that were DC with my SAM (proly 77'ish at the time) and was zapped to death in no time flat. I've mostly been playing my SAM of late so I didn't really think of using that flourish. Maybe an attempt is in order... they weren't really hitting hard so I'm thinking I could proly go /RNG ... oh god... my /Rng will be gimped... I really am not looking forward to that lvl'n that sub.

Ephemeral Clionid and Ephemerald

When abyssea first opened up, me and another bst would go in and just Wide scan for these guys. 2 76+ Bsts can easily handle…actually Bst can solo, just need to rest after each. We were getting 300-750xp+ per kill. But they are spread out. Probably got about 7+ kills as we circled the map, then we’d start at the beginning and go another round depending on time. Don’t think in our 4 runs we got the abyssites though 

So 80 rdm with half decent solo gear be able to solo those? Whats best sub for it in you opinion?

With the ability to Stun, wouldn't DNC be able to? That wasn't really the battle for me. The battle was finding the mobs. I initially went RDM because I figure I would need to Silence the mobs. But I gave up after 2 circles around the canyon and not finding any.

Hell, even when I went BST so I would have widescan, I still found 2 Bhumis and Ephemeral Limules (one of which dropped the Destiny abyssite) before I found the Clionid, hidden way to the far west among the floating skulls.

Both are from Ephemeral Clionid and Ephemerald Limule in Tahrongi

Those would be really nice... however I don't think I could solo either of those mobs with either of my 80's. QQ

And what do those do, might I ask?

Abyssite of Avarice increases the amount of Traverser Stones you can carry by 1.
Abyssite of Destiny improves the quality of items in item (not temporary items) chests.

Both are from Ephemeral Clionid and Ephemerald Limule in Tahrongi.

I took my 76 WHM out there and fished at the pond by VC#04 (where the NPC is). I fished up two items and got KOed three times. RR3 FTW. Fishing for rusty items could be considered "getting off your ass", if there wasn't fished-up aggro involved. Then it's all down to having the "right" job.

I also tried fishing up some items for quest and had the same issue. I was 80rdm so the crabs went down pretty fast for the crappy gear i had on me but i started getting pissed b/c i would fish them up 1/10 or so and just got plain annoying. That was two weeks ago and then this last weekend i did it again with the same gear and time my kills and totaled them up to see how much time i wasted kill these stupid crabs. i dont remember exact numbers but it was something like 15min or so out of an hour (+6min cuz of key item). Thats probably at least 3-4 more rusty items i could have fished up.

So the last time I went to go fish them up I slept them and just logged out and then logged back on. Lost no more than a minute each time. Dont know how well repose works on them but sleep II last at least 30 sec. save you a lot of time especially if your having to fight and die a couple times.

oh make sure you have the right bait....i accidently use the bait that fished up the NM....needless to say it didnt end well
