Re: New RMT Attacks, take caution
Well, people get complacent. It's good to get a bit scared of things now and then, it gives you reason to check yourself and make sure everything is as it should be.

Re: New RMT Attacks, take caution
That's not what I'm talking about. I'm not talking about threats arising at all. What you're talking about is someone saying "Be careful, that narrow road is icy", and other people driving more carefully because of it. That makes perfect sense. What I'm talking about is someone saying "Someone had a crash on a road we all already knew to be dangerously narrow. You should drive safely there.", as if nobody already realized they should drive safely, or the road was narrow.Originally posted by Sabaron View PostHowever, when such a threat arises within the community

Re: New RMT Attacks, take caution
You are simply describing natural behavior. It's not a culture of fear and it has nothing to do with 9/11.Originally posted by Feba View PostWhat the hell is up with this whole "Something bad happened, you should be careful" mentality people have, anyway?
"Some celebrity has lung cancer. You should stop smoking.", even though everyone already knows smoking causes cancer. "Some woman was raped last night. You should keep your eyes open.", even though everyone already knows you're at risk anywhere. "There's some new virus going around. You should use anti-virus software and be careful where you go online", even though everyone already knows that you need to either use secure software or not connect to the internet.
In communal animal societies including humans, there exists in general in the community no significant threats. However, when such a threat arises within the community (e.g. someone saw a large snake), they alert the other members of the community to the specific danger. That way, instead of always having to worry about general danger, you can watch the ground more closely than you would the sky...
This has obvious benefits because if there is a new computer virus, you won't be scanning your hard drive for rapists...

If you have a keylogger, yes it would be, but that's like saying you're much safer with a seatbelt on when you're driving drunk.Originally posted by Neomage View PostI have a question: Is that new 'software keyboard' actually any better then just typing it in?

Re: New RMT Attacks, take caution
I know it's possible but its also possible someone just thought they'd say it was. It's times like this I wonder why google flags ffxionline as a threat for every little thing and ffxiclopedia and other websites which have been compromised in the past go unnoticed.Originally posted by Mhurron View PostNow this one is possible (though technically it wouldn't be a virus) and it wouldn't be the first time they were compromised.

I take both warnings with a pinch of salt, some people just like starting a scare fest.

If there weren't any RMT we'd be playing My Little Unicorn: Master Chief edition?

Re: New RMT Attacks, take caution
So true. They don't have anything better to do but to hack our accounts. I wonder what the world would be like without RMT.....Originally posted by Aksannyi View PostI don't buy that it was dished out through a POL message. But, once we thought this shit was (mostly) over, and here it goes again. /sigh.

Anyways, I never want to have my account stolen again. The less I have to deal with SE/Playonline the better.Last edited by Durahansolo; 03-30-2009, 02:44 PM.

Also with things like this people like to try and make a name for themselves by being 'first' to notice, mention, diagnose etc the problem.
