I dont see what the problem with it being full screen is, if you need somthing look it up before you log on and print it? (duh) Or if you have another computer in your house use that one too..there are other ways to get your information without having to have windower or anything like that.

1)several antivirus utilities (the kind that like to pop up messages) will cause FFXI to 'crash' back to pol. in other games or with windowing available, this issue goes away.
2) printing things that I can keep on a virtual screen is both wasteful to my wallet and to the environment. only print things that you *need* printed or that you want to be able to reference without turning a computer on in the first place.
3) same goes for turning on a second computer.
4) dual-screens are effectively disabled with vanilla-FFXI currently, because as soon as the FFXIApp loses focus the game 'crashes' back to pol.

Also its full screen on everything else..so yeah I dont see what the issue at hand is here. (some people that play this game dont even own a computer.)

all the other platforms that play the game currently are dedicated systems (they exist to play games and DVD's, one at a time.) a pc is a multipurpose multitasking tool.

I didnt intill last Christmas, so yeah just think about that you are not the only one who cant get information from the net. Just be proud you own a computer. Sorry I am being a bitch again....o_O

what's the point of owning a computer that a *game* won't let you use? most people won't pay 8x the cost of a PS2 to have the device turned into one at a whim by a developer.

the light version isn't complex at all.

in fact, it's almost totally seamless beyond learning to click a different desktop icon.

unless it's a big issue for you though, I'd just wait until SE releases an official one. (and updates to dx9! /rejoice )

Since you just started out, I wouldn't even think about using windower, it's complex, and will get you in more trouble then you know what to deal with. Before windower came out, we all did the same thing, ran in fullscreen mode (most of us still do) and just delt with it.

Don't worry, SE is planning to release an official windower by the time the next expansion "Wings of the Goddess" is out, which is this coming winter.

SE has announced there will be a windowed mode option available, and it will most likly be released around the time of WotG.

I won't advocate one way or the other if widower is a hack or cheat. You can cheat with it and you cheat without it. But you can safely assume that the vast majority of people playing on PC do you the windower for the windowed capability. Anyone that has been banned with windower has usually been found out to using other things like a Bot, flee tool, or some other thing that gave an unfair advantage.

But again, use at your own risk.

Look at the top right of your screen for the BIG BLUE BUTTON LABELED "SEARCH". OR you could get out from under your rock, and use this magical "google" thing people have been talking about for the past decade or so.

Ooooooo right so the use of this windower programme is being used by people to cheat :S ermmmm think ill stick tooo the full screen mode lol did u say theirs gona be a window available option in the expansion tho ? as i really wont use anything tht isnt licensed by the company not worth getting an account banned for something like tht ! especially if you are genuinely only using it for the windows function nothing else and u still get banned

The only windowed option available right now is Windower, and thus against the ToS, since it's a 3rd party program.

There will be a SE version of windower eventually. They've stated by the release of the expansion. While it's the common consensus that you won't get banned for using the 3rd party windower by itself, you can for running any tools that it comes with or is available for it. You use it at your own risk.

You run the game in a window by using the search function.
