lol, well I'm not really expecting to get a lot of playing time over next year, so I might just wait. I do have a PS2, but all that extra stuff is a little bit of a hassle.

Hm, didn't think about that. Maybe I should, since I'm the kind of person who would rather go on adventures with people I know rather than just going around town "I need a level 20 White Mage!"

Yeah, the 6th face for mithra seems to be -very- common, especially the white haired one.
I almost wouldn't reccommend playing on two servers. My boyfriend started out on Odin, but started up a character on Remora. He now ends up spending 90% of his time on Remora, because of our linkshell and our friends in it. Once you start making friends on a certain server, you'll end up spending most of your time on one server over the other, so one character will end up neglected.
If you really really want two characters to level, I would certainly suggest putting them on the same server. That way you won't have to worry about balancing your time between the two servers and two sets of friends.
Speaking of which, when you do get started up, if you decide on Remora as your server, look me up and I can hook you up with a linkpearl for my linkshell ^_^Leave a comment:

lol, hume and mithra have always been a little higher up for me. Elvaan are cool too, but I think I would rather play as a hume. Galka are the powerhouse in the game, but like I said, I've always favored Dex over Str. Tarutarus, maybe a little too cute for me. XD
I've narrowed down face choices too (might be helpful to get something up so you know which faces I'm talking about XD ). For hume (male) I would go with either the 2nd or 4th face. The 4th one is the most common, but the longer hair is nice. For me, the "hero imagine" in my mind usually has longer hair (like Anakin Skywalker XD). For mithra, I have more favorites. The 6th face is just plain cool, but it is also the most common face. The 1st, 5th, and 8th ones are also nice. I think I would probably go with the first one. Simple, cute, not incredibly common.
Maybe I will end up just having two characters. That would also give me a chance to play on different servers too.Leave a comment:

XD That's one way to choose. If I remember right, I chose a Tarutaru for my race when I first started because they were the cutest out of all of them, lol.
Keep in mind, though, that once you really start getting into the game, you're probably going to end up creating a mule or two, if you're a packrat about your items. Personally, I have 5 Characters >_>;; 1 main, and 4 mule characters. I just don't like giving up my equipment too quickly, as you can see by my signature I have what's called Job ADD. lol. So it's nice to have all my equipment handy if I want to level one of the jobs that I don't consider a main job.Leave a comment:

I should look at the stats for a Hume and Mithra again. I guess I'm pretty even between the two. Both sides have ups and downs (and not just with stats).

*Shrug* My boyfriend plays as a Mithra as his main, only now there's the issue of us not being able to have the in-game marriage thing. XD Been trying to get on his case for a while to level his male taru so we can try for that, but he's been lazy. Though I guess it all comes down to personal preference if you want to play a female/male character.
Though if Mithra appeals to you don't let its female-only thing turn you off, there are plenty of guys (I'm assuming you're a guy, sorry if I'm wrong!) who play mithras. Out of all the mithra in my linkshell, I think at least half are guys. XD
Actually, one of my best guy friends on the game plays a female Elvaan.
Also found out recently that one of the female tarutaru in my linkshell is actually a guy IRL. Threw me off quite a bit.Leave a comment:

Heh, yeah I've read about things about that. Like Galkas beings mages and things like that. And a Mithra probably wouldn't vary too much in comparison to a Hume. Just more flexable. I've always favored Dex over Str. But like I said, there is also the gender thing. XP And when it comes to role-playing I've always played as male characters too.

Hello, fellow lurker~ I'm quite the lurker myself, been here a year and I have under 20 posts. >_>;
Just wanted to add in here that race -really- isn't an issue as far as choosing a job goes. Everything that matters for a job can always be compensated for. Want to be a Tarutaru, but want to do something other than a mage job, like tank? Just get some HP+ and VIT+ gear. I've never had a problem as far as tanking as my Taru, sure as a Tarutaru PLD I have a considerable amount less HP than my other fellow PLD my level (I just hit the 1000 HP mark at 65, and that is with all my HP+ gear), but it hasn't really ever hindered my ability to tank well.
I've also seen some pretty kickass Galka SMN and WHM. You just need to know what your job needs, if your race isn't balanced like a Hume, and compensate for it if need be.

Hello, Silent Howler here. I'm one of those people who has been keeping an eye on FFXI for the past four years but hasn't been able to actually play it yet.
I've done a lot of research though and my knowledge of the game is pretty decent for someone who has never played or watched someone else play. I often find myself going for long peroids of time not thinking about this game (mostly from the realization that I'm probably not going to be getting this game any time soon) but every once in a while I get a little burst of interest in the game again. This is one of those moments.
I always plan ahead, thinking about what race I should pick and what jobs I would want to have. For race, top two choices for me would be either a Hume or Mithra, but I will probably go with Hume for a couple reasons (1, gender issues. 2, there isn't any one area that interests me more than another, so I will probably try out a wide range of jobs, which Humes are nice at). Ranger and Summoner were the two jobs I would say interested me the most, and now I have a new interest in the Blue Mage.
It's kind of interesting that I'm writing this but don't have a clear idea of what it's purpose is. Maybe I just want to intruduce myself for once instead of always lurking. ¬_¬ Also might be nice to get a little more familiar with the game too, and maybe get to know some people (might give me a reason to join a particular server).
But anyways, um, guess that's all.
