Re: New FFXI Expansion
I think the "great wall" is Garlaige before it was ruined - look at how much the background terrain resembles Sauromugue. And the place that looks like Davoi *is* Davoi - before it was taken over by the Orcs. The shot where you're looking out through a grating at a swamp is probably Pashhow.
If you take the screenshot of the place shown at night and adjust the brightness in your favorite image manipulation program, it does look rather Gustaberg-ish (although I think it's not Vomp Hill, but the cliff that separates the two main parts of North Gustaberg; you can see the river canyon in the lower left part of the image).
IIRC, those things aren't from the great war - they're older than the great war (but not as old as the fall of the Zilart civilization). From a time when the three nations weren't always at peace with each other... IIRC, the stone monuments state that Garlaige was destroyed by a Windurstian army.
New jobs seem unlikely - they can't have existed in the past without changing history (although who knows how SE is going to resolve all the classic issues about time travel - maybe it'll be some Dynamis-like phenomenon and not genuine time travel at all.) Except by the same logic, we wouldn't expect to see any new monster types, which has never happened in an expansion.
Although this isn't shown in the movie, I wonder if they intend to do the travel to the past thing worldwide? Then we can visit Old Tavnazia, and maybe see (or fight in!) the Empire-Ephramad war, too. (That would be a departure from the previous independence of expansions, though.)

Re: New FFXI Expansion
Okay, well. The expansion resembles a lot of things from the current future, while everything may be greener, how do we not know how it was like that? I'm assuming that after the war some things became a bit dried up~
There is definately going to be a strong reason why the past has been brought up. Stronger reason to look back than all the other expansions, perhaps Altana isn't free? Locked away somewhere or something in the past

Re: New FFXI Expansion
The tree on the left looks like a pine tree, so I don't think it's tropical. My guess would be orcish homeland perhaps? Unless those are friendly orcs (haha) the way they are standing around the houses makes me think it is not a town and just another orc inhabitation like Davoi, and all the others.I got nothin on this one. Looks tropical. Mithra Homeland, maybe? Far South?
The dark pic of what looks like Gustaberg, could that be Dynamis Gustaberg? It actually makes me think more of the lighthouse, I thought Vomp hill had a cemetary on top of it and no structures beyond a platform.
The top pic does look like the Battilia Downs exit into Jeuno, but there are a couple of things bothering me with it.
1) It looks too green, I don't remember any greenery in Battilia Downs except maybe by where treants spawn, which is nowhere near the gate.
2) Like I said, this looks like the entrance to Jeuno from Battilia Downs. If it is meant to be defended, why have two big ass ramps leading down from the walls like that? I'd expect to see that from the defending side, not the side that will be attacked.
Either way this should be interesting! I wonder if there will be any new jobs with this expansion? Or any new summons, I want the Phoenix!

Re: New FFXI Expansion
Saw the video, I still don't see the resemblance. Vomp Hill is just a little further from the coastline than this place is. It could be an island off of Gustaberg that no longer exists for all we know. I didn't see a fade to Gustaberg anywhere in the video, just Sarutabaruta, Davoi and some other zones.Originally posted by Gokulos View PostGo to the hill and check it again. Or view the movie now.
I have the feeling this is going to be a smaller, story-based expansion for some reason, almost as though its just some content for us to play around with while they prepare a bigger expansion to continue the story of ToA from.Last edited by Omgwtfbbqkitten; 05-12-2007, 01:42 AM.

Re: New FFXI Expansion
those maps look verry muh like other zones, I do see se being mad enough to let us travel forwards/backwards in time to fight evil, hell we might get to fight in the great war! that would be interesting, seeing the changed that it has on say modern vana'diel

Yuck.
I realize wordings like "divine soldiers" or "holy warriors" would be politically insensitive, but do they have to remove Altana's name from the title?
Promathia has an expansion pact already, I say it's only fair that Altana's name should be on the next one.

Re: New FFXI Expansion
This seems to be an overhead view of a zone, but I don't see a resemblance to Vomp Hill. I see a coastline and an unusual construct (almost like a temple) sitting on a plateau with some trees below, but thats it.Originally posted by Ghostraven View PostLooks like we're doing some time travel

There's in a video on POL site now. After some old CS it basically shows current area changing to past one's when they were fortified and all.

Re: New FFXI Expansion

Entering through the Gates of Mordor is too dangerous, precious! I know another way in!
(The fat one... he knows!)
This actually looks like Batilla downs with some beefed-up ramparts in it, could Middle Land beastmen be planning raids on Jeuno? Or its a riff on the Great Wall of China, which would further imply things are going to the Far East?
Looks western though. Far West?

Sephiroth has already summoned Meteor. Oh noes!
I got nothin on this one. Looks tropical. Mithra Homeland, maybe? Far South?

This totally isn't a repaint of Davoi. Nor is it a cut and paste of Davoi. No sir. Absolutely not. Neither was Ifrit's Cald...er... Halvung.
Apparently the more badass orcs look, the better craftsmen they are, just look at these lovely cottages. Bob Vila and Martha Stewart would be so proud.
Anyway, isn't the Orcish Empire to the Far North? This could be what that is. Or Davoi could have gotten a few new houses. Orcs did have housing like this in Miseraux Coast and Davoi.
----------------------------------
If SE were to dodge the Far East (as they have for a loooooong tme), treating players to moderate amounts of Far North and South content with a dash of new Middle Lands content would be the way to go.

Re: New FFXI Expansion
Not much about it other than its saying they are pics. Looks like Battlia, Gustaburg and Davoi, though the latter could be another new zone entirely. Either way, new areas or graphics upgrade, it looks yummy.Originally posted by Drive View Posthttp://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/gemaga1985/5860101.html
Some pics. Redesigned maps? Looks like it may not even take place in a whole new continent but I haven't read it yet.
