Re: Will we see FFXI for Wii?

Nintendo products have never had a large online user-base... so my opinion is that there really isn't such a draw to spend the money and time to develop a Wii version of the game...

this is .. somewhat unnecessary. you've already got a blue-tooth wireless hub (the Wii itself) there's no reason to make a double link across the wii-mote when you can just interface directly with the Wii. (making for a faster more stable connection - fewer hops - and saving battery power on the wiimote as well)

you also wouldn't need a unique controller, since the gamecube approximates a ps2 (yes, you're missing one shoulder button and the analog thumbstick 'L3, R3' ) but it's entirely possible to map most of the major game functions to the buttons and sticks available to the gamecube and classic controllers.

    Woot, I started a hot topic ^_^ !

I was talking about Jei's proposal for Asuran Fists.

And Amele, i'm not saying that nintendo ripped anyone off, or that the patent system is perfect (far from it), I'm just saying that Nintendo probably doesn't want to get into more legal crap right now.

Sorry Feba...I was proposing a triditonal contol scheme where all you do it's just run around hold the classic controler and have a KB connected in some way(either using bluetooth or USB). I was playing with my classic controler and it doesn't have the buttons under the analog stick(for resting) so you'd have to rig up another button for that...but otherwise it seems like it'd do FFXI perfectly XD
I will say that Nintendo only supports a funky onscreen KB at the moment...but things change ^^

trigger operated remote device patent filed in 2005?

let's just leave it at the U.S. Patent system leaves something to be desired. the wording in Interlinks patent is so vague as to apply to basically every major pointing device on the market that includes any sort of analog trigger (there's several, although the wiimote is certainly one of the higher profile cases) and doesn't even actually describe how a wiimote works until you hack the firmware to emulate what this patent describes.

basically, it's usually best to just ignore lawsuits until they actually go to court. (unless you're involved in one!) The class action on straps that's coming one of these days is the one Nintendo will actually be concerned about.

Nintendo is already a blue tooth adopter.
And nintendo is already being sued with patent infringement for other things with the Wiimote. Thanks for the info, though.

Wii-motes are already generic blue tooth devices. Nintendo is already a blue tooth adopter.

also, it was a dispute between the Washington Research Foundation and CSR Plc. (one of two primary distributors of blue tooth micros) over patent infringement - WRF sued several high profile customers of CSR in an attempt to get media coverage, nothing more. (all cases settled out of court). it's already over. (I'm pretty sure Nintendo used Broadcom micros anyway.)

    1. adding generic bluetooth drivers is a matter of a software update (wouldn't even require firmware updating).

    2. everything that uses the WII classic can also be done with a GC controller (wavebird etc.) which if you play virtual console *or* GC you'll have access to at least one of these.

Last I heard, Wii didn't have drivers for USB/bluetooth keyboards.

    2. SSBB will use the classic controler and most WII users buy VC games anywho XD
    1. it does plug into the WIImote to work...but the WII's usb ports will be fine for keyboards ^^(or bluetooth)

BTW: I'm on my WII posting this...
