    Re: Lacking Diversity.

There is nothing from conquest that is necessary at low levels. The only thing controlling an area really does is provide free home points and allow you to recharge signet if you're out for a long time. As long as you get signet, you still get CP whether you control the region or not. Conquest shouldn't have much impact on gear access though.

As far as Jeuno, there isn't really any need to go there til 20 anyway. As far as getting there... if you take it slow and watch your surroundings, you can get to Jeuno at lvl 1. I've taken a couple mules there. Heck, I unlocked a mog locker in Aht Urghan with a lvl 5 mule... (but I had powders and oils for some of it).

why not? it's not particularly difficult.
Or as an alternative, make a mule in the other nations so you have all the NPC shops covered regardless of conquest.

Um..I'm not asking people to feel sorry, I'm asking them to conquest more.
I'm lv 8...I'm working my ass off, and I'm doing the best I can to get up to rank two so I can trade all these dang crystals. So nice of you to assume I'm not.
But it is a problem for low levels when you can't get gear for your level. Conquest is a contributing factor in this that takes everyone's effort.

    ...

its apart of the game... im from san doria and well san doria on remora blows big round things.

ill give you the fact that this game isnt easy on new players. it doesnt hand much to you. it takes some time, effort and thinking.

research some quests on the many various ffxi databases. I'll help you out with a few that i use: ffxiclopedia.org and ffxi.somepage.com. a lot of armor can be quested and stuff in those lower levels. if an armor is not on sale in bastok, do what i did when i first started. walk your ass to san doria and buy stuff. if you are lvl 20, get your chocobo and just ride all over the place if you have to. if its too much work for you, or you dont have the patience, well... i dont know what to say. this game has never really been about instant gratification. more so in these lower levels. you've got to earn your stripes.

learn how to make gil. theres many ways to make gil and its not that difficult. you can buy armor on the ah if you cant find something at the npc.

i dont want to sound harsh but no one will feel sorry for you because you cant make way for yourself. bastok losing conquest is hardly a set back.

    taru edit: what eticket said.

taru edit II: im sure the OP forgot about this thread already but I wanted to show the younger players that not everything looks the same. I mean what game doesnt look the same at lv. 20? I've played wow and well everything looks the same too at that lvl. anyhow, once you start progressing the armor begins to get specialized. you should usually be able to tell who is what with their armor and weapon combinations. mages are a bit more difficult but you should be able to tell most the time.

    if you go here: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Jobs
it shows you all the jobs in their trade mark artifact gear. now full AF ends at lv. 60, at 75 most players probably only use a few pieces from their af since better armor is available then. Anyhow, I was just trying to show you that not everyone looks like they only wear leather/beetle/blacktunic forever.

It sucks big time...we need more bastok conquest points.
    Farm.

Get Signet. Run around killing EP stuff for seals, crystals, xp and drops.

Sell stuff and buy gear off the AH. Granted, the early stuff costs a bit more on the AH then it used to, but it's still easy enough to buy.

If you're around bastok you can farm the bees and sheep. Even the Quadavs and lizards have some decent drops.

If all else fails, do quests. A lot of early quests have gil or armor as rewards.

If you quit just because some unknown person looks like you, that's not a really good reason. Any online games have limited resources. You will run into people that look like you eventually. FFXI may be easier to notice this because of the PS2 limitations. But still, that doesn't make the game less fun.

When you play stand alone RPG, like FF12 for example. You know, millions of other players around the world will also look exactly like you. Except they are not playing with you. So what's the big deal?

If you're not having fun then by all means, quit.

Look, if the creators of the game would give me a reason to equip all 5 pieces of my DRG JSE (The level 68-70 pieces) I will run around it in full time because it's all black and I nearly double as a NIN. . But when I solo I cannot wear it because it slows me down in all possible ways.
    (stats are, if you're wondering)

    Dragon Finger Gauntlets
    HP +8
    Resist vs. Lightning +10
    Resist vs. Water +10
    Breath Damage Taken -4%
    Dragon Greaves
    HP +13
    Resist vs. Wind +10
    Resist vs. Earth +10
    Breath Damage Taken -4%
    Dragon Mask
    HP +10
    Resist vs. Light +10
    Resist vs. Dark +10
    Breath Damage Taken -4%
    Dragon Cuisses
    HP +11
    Resist vs. Fire +10
    Resist vs. Ice +10
    Breath Damage Taken -4%
    Dragon Mail
    HP +12
    Resist vs. Fire +10
    Resist vs. Ice +10
    Resist vs. Wind +10
    Resist vs. Earth +10
    Resist vs. Lightning +10
    Resist vs. Water +10
    Resist vs. Light +10
    Resist vs. Dark +10
    Breath Damage Taken -9%
There is nothing really I would use the armor for, but damn it looks cool. Seriously.

    Re: Lacking Diversity.

I think what he's really wanting is for a blm to look like a blm and a whm to look like a whm. Or a war to look like a war while a drk looks like a drk. As opposed to just all melees look alike and all mages look alike. The way the game was designed, low level characters have similar choices in armor looks. There isn't anything for a lvl 10 melee to wear besides scale. So unless you're a mage, you wear scale. Same mages who wear doublets and tunics.

This changes the higher up you go, but there are certain points where a particular set of mage or melee armor is just too good so all melee or mages wear it.

I'd say lvl 30 is when you start to see some potential for diversity. There's RSE and additional choices for the "best" Tank gear vs DD gear. Most Mages will be wearing Seer's for a while at that point. RNG and THF will split off from other melee and use Noct Gear. Most MNK NIN and SAM will continue to wear pajamas. Some NIN and SAM might go for chainmail instead. Then it starts to kick into high gear once you hit your 50s when you start coming across Artifact Armor and JSE. You'll see some truly horrendous combinations as people try to maximize themselves.

Once you get far enough past 60 things start to narrow a bit again as people start to optimize their gear for the best efficiency and results. But I dunno, once you have a game where you can actually see the gear a person wears, I don't think you're going to get much diversity anyway. Everyone is always going to want the best piece. So that's what everyone will be wearing.

When I was a low level drk, I looked at the equipment choices and saw that I could deviate from everyone else and still maintain the same def and the same if not better stats. I went through a slops phase all the way until lvl 30. :p Cause, slops were similar in defense to other leg armor and the good pieces often had nice little boosts. Once I got high enough, though, the better choices were more in line what with everyone else had.

    Re: Lacking Diversity.

Is there much diversity in any RL scenario where the clothing you wear must be Functional? Do firemen, police officers or military personnel wear different outfits to express their individuality? No they wear the uniform that has been tailored for the purpose of being practical for the jobs they do.

The gear in FFXI is deigned to benefit the jobs and boost the stats of the characters. There are more different jobs than there are functions in a party so often multiple jobs that perform the same function in a party will wear the same gear to best serve that function.

Also unlike other MMORGs FFXI has the PS2 to contend with, it is a limiting factor for the designers. If you can not appreciate the aesthetics of this game and what SE has accomplished with such limitations imposed on them, by all means play another game.

And all the amor looks pretty much the same.

Is it easy to tell each character's job just by looking at them when your level 20+? Or ever?!
Why don't you consentrate on the stats of the gear not the look of it. Yeah it can get a lil mundane at times but its not about the color of the scale armour that makes you a good tank its the def and extra stats it gives. Every MMORPG is like that. WoW is like that, SWG was like that, Hero online, COH/COV i mean c'mon with these 2 games...i saw the same heros and villians flying around...You're going to run into a lack of diversity in all MMO games. If its diversity that makes you quit the game...I'm sorry you wasted your money on the game.

you can quit if you want but from what i've seen FF11 is quite good......and who really cares if you look like saomone else.....odds are that at 1-30 you will but from 30 onwards except for closely linked jobs like BLM & WHM yyou will not look like another person in your party unless you have the same job as that person.

I am not sure how this relates to lack of diversity, FFXi has more diversity than any other game I have ever played.

If you are quitting FFXI because doesn'you dont think you look cool enough. I'm not sure there is anything anyone can do about that to alleviate your concerns.

No, this isn't true at all. You're never going to see a BLM running around Jeuno with the Centurion's Armor set.

It's true, at lower levels the lack of gear choices can make people like similar, but 50+ there are a looooot more gear choices that make people stand out.

And honestly, it's kinda stupid to quit the game when you havent really given it a chance (level 30 or less) just because some noobs look like other noobs.
