Re: No Provoke
Go exp in the Mire, where everyone subs NIN... and flies spam Cursed Sphere.
My squishy Taru behind often gets slapped around because there's no one to take hate off my *needed* Curaga 2... and they blame ME for them losing hate.
It's now at the point where I either solo or just do Besieged for EXP. It's safer, especially with only a R1.

Re: No Provoke
Which would just make the grind up to 30 even more frustrating. Not that most low levels provoke anyway.

Re: No Provoke
THF would be ultra-popular.
SATA would be the preferred method of hate assignment at 30+. The tanks would fall similarly to where they are now. As long as the PLD keeps curing and the NIN keeps dishing it out, the THF's long-lasting spike hate from SATA will be the killer ability [The "new" voke if you will].

hmmm a world without provoke...Originally posted by Mog View PostThis is food for thought.
An interesting question comes to mind. What would this game be like if SE didn't so cordially give us provoke? In the eyes of ninjas and paladins, provoke makes it ten times easier to establish and keep hate on a mob. If provoke, however, wasn't an ability, how would this game change at all? What job classes would be sought out after the most? Would damage dealers become the ultimate tanks? Would paladins be shunned from parties? How would people level?
What are your thoughts? I'm one curious moogle.
Warrior would drop in popularity a bit.
Paladin would only be able to tank so long as their yagado drinks/melon juice exc held to keep mana up.
Ninja tanks would either go to damage dealing or go even more broke due to extra elemental wheel dependance.
Tanks that can hold hate would build a reputation as being extrodinary.
Due to lack of hate control people would be more defensive minded when choosing gear rather than stacking on strictly damage dealing gear.
Damage dealers would be forced to nerf their damage even more than recient trends have required.
Thats what I can think of.
Regarding if you could only use your primary job traits Warriors would become the ultimate tanks with ninja and paladin becoming the but of hate control jokes while both of these groups will feverently insist minimum 12k/hour is what you'll get at level 20 with them in your pts. ^..^

Re: No Provoke
An interesting thought. I would say that MNKs would be sought after as tanks rather frequently for their ability to hit hard, they sometimes end up getting a good chunk of hate. Paladins have some great hate-holding tools, so I'm sure they wouldn't become obsolete.
On the same line of thinking, what would it be like if you couldn't use your sub's job abilities? Thus, the PLD or the NIN wouldn't have voke, but WAR would? Would people acually use Warrior like he was intended (as a tank) or would the gameplay be the same as it is now? Just something I am curious about, because I kind of hate how WAR was the original tank and now you can't even find a WAR who is able to tank, let alone one who is willing to.
