I've been trying to change the music in FF 11 for quite some time now, cause seem to find a good converter, mp3 to .wav, was told .wav is what it need to be converted to, but when i convert, take out old song, but in new, it doesn't seem to work, all the sound files seem to end with .bgw, do i need a .bgw converter or what?

also, if anyone knows where to get good converter, please inform me

    If you're talking about the ToAU music, they are decode with SONY's ATRAC3. I haven't been able to find free software to decode it yet. Well, I don't know any paid software either lol ;_;

For all oder music files, you can use pebble's utility to listen and convert them out as WAV I think. You can download the POLUtil Here

        Re: Music Conversion

Well, to give you hope at least, I can confirm that what you want to do is entirely possible. Not only that but I've actually done it before. Back in the last year and a half I used a program to alter my .bgw files around so I could listen to different music in game. I believe I swapped out the file for the Shadow Lord's battle music to play Black Sabbath's "Supernaut". The process is essentially:

        1. Rip the music you actually want to hear into .mp3 or .wav format.
        2. Use a conversion program to alter those files into .bgw's
        3. Look up the music files for FFXI and find the file for the particular music track you want to alter. If I remember correctly, not all the .bgw files in the game actually play any music. There are a ton of files, like one for Sarutabaruta which just plays a wind noise.
        4. Rename the music file you actually like to the name of the file you want to replace.
        5. Save a copy of the original track somewhere you can easily remember it, with a notation of where you found it. (If I'm replacing Rom3, folder 54, file 54.bgw, for instance, I'll stash the original in a folder titled "Backup" and within a subfolder named "Rom3-54-54" so I remember where I got it).
        6. Drag and drop the new file into the old one's directory and click the "Yes" prompt to replace the old file.

Now, for the life of me I can't remember where I got the program I used to do the replacement with. I *think* it was called Virtual Dub or something like that. I used something like WinRip to actually take the CD tracks and convert em over to .mp3s and .wavs. I'd imagine Roxio would work too if you have that.

Anyway, I'm sure that wasn't fantastically helpful, but I'd like to think I at least gave you some hope that it's possible. What your describing does in fact work, at least on the PC version.

Here you go: Quoth the site http://ffxi.ogaming.com/data/1967~ChangeMusic.php

Step 1: Download the program here: http://kaedeps2.tripod.co.jp/XiMC004.lzh.
Step 2: Using WinRAR (not sure if WinZIP works), extract the files to any folder you wish. The program is in Japanese, but it's easy enough to figure out.
Step 3: The FFXI music files are stored in: C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\sound\win\music\data. Backup the music files before you change anything. The program does not ask you whether or not you want to overwrite the music, so if you overwrite the wrong music file on accident, then it's gone.
Step 4: Take any music file you have (be it CD, mp3, wma, etc.) and convert it to a .wav (the program you just downloaded can only convert .wav files to FFXI music files: .bgw). To do this conversion to .wav, I highly suggest using dBPowerAMP Music Converter.
Step 5: Once you've converted your soundtrack to .wav files, open XiMC.exe and convert your .wav files to .bgw. You can then rename them to the music file which you want to replace (for example, music101.bgw, music102.bgw, and music103.bgw are battle songs).
Step 6: Enjoy your customized soundtrack while you bash the hell out of those monsters!

....and that's why you should've made a backup.

Bad news. Once it's gone, it's literally gone. AFAIK, you'd have to reinstall the game in order to get the music back, you can't download it.
