Yeah, this guy was just a tard. They're out there.

I was in W. Sarutabaruta one day, and Tom Tit Whatever popped right next to me. I'm like, hey, maybe I'll get the drop. So I grabbed it. There was NOBODY in sight.

As I'm killing it, two guys (maybe one was female, I dunno, they were armored up Elvaans) come up to me with RNG/1 as their subs and start /crying and all these whiny emotes and start /slapping me. It's like, dude. It was luck. I didn't get the drop and shove your slap up your ass.

I mention this only because it amuses me - I'd actually partied with one of them before in Qufim and the other one PL'd and they were practically chatsexing the whole damn time we were partying. Bllaaaarrgh.

I used to fish on the ferry 24 hours a day 7 days a week trying to get my ebisu rod. I haven't been called greedy nor insulted anything even once. I even made new good friends o.O

I only hunted spiders for webs like once, and immediately other campers called me a farm bot.

People can be nice at the right place.

Hmm, well having been on the other side of this before, I can sort of see where he's coming from. I did Cargo Crab Colin for 6 hrs straight once, he's got all of 1 placeholder. I'm clearing the entire tunnel section, not making a secret of being there for the pop, and someone still comes up and claims him in the half second between /pet "assault" <t> and when Carb reaches him. Man, was I pissed. But I didn't complain about people breaking the game or being jerks IRL, I just thought of the most lovely curse I could on the spot and spewed that at him:

    /say I hope you go 1/60.

That was pretty much the entirety of our conversation. No /tells about how much I hate him or want his family dead, etc. Guy logs right after, and I head back to town to change my sub from THF to WHM so I'm ready next time around. He probably got it, but I still hold out hope my curse worked. I'm a Slav, curses is what we do.

On the other hand, you're camping a mob with a giant spawn area, and there's almost always a good dozen people there with you. I see this as different from when someone just walks up to a small pop area camp like CCC. If you beat me to the claim on Emperor or Leaping Lizzy, good on ya. I'll have to learn to be faster on the gun next time, I guess.

People who spend a lot of time at a camp get frustrated fairly quickly, and I think it's natural for us to want to vent when someone else succeeds where we've been failing miserably. If that venting comes down to the personal level, like attacks on someone's family, religion, intelligence (or lack thereof), unfounded accusations of RMT/cheating, etc. you're dealing with someone who's still got an emotional IQ of the average 12-year old. Best to just ignore this person as soon as the first tell lands, or you're just going to regret it later. If someone's willing to go there, however, you're at least somewhat likely to have them start bitching in /shout too, but on the bright side you don't have to read any of that.

That would have sucked for people who had the old hairpin on their mules, or on the AH or loaned to a friend or something. The way they did it works for me, personally.

I think SE should have made all the previous drops of the hairpin into rare/ex. Or at least made it drop more often.

I mean, I camped VE back when he dropped the sellable hairpin for the sole purpose of selling it. It popped, I got it, people were cheering me on, it was great.

I actually got it too. I immediately put it on the auction block for 300k (This was a LOOOONG time ago, when 300k was a lot to NA players), and now I'm all like "Man, I should have held on to it! I could use a million gil!"

So, for someone who can sell the hairpin now, why not? It's not like he's throwing his original in the sand, or somehow wasting it. Someone who has the gil to waste on the thing's going to buy his, and help him out with his gil. Meanwhile, he's going to go camping for the new hairpin he now needs.

I was just being totally random and silly, its not uncommon

No, there is *nothing* in any way shape or form wrong with camping a Non ex item dropping mob for the sole intent of selling it's item. Ever. There are lots of different ways to make gil in this game and NM camping is just one of them. The only thing you did wrong in any way was letting the jackass affect you. As said before, someone like that isn't worth your anger.

Keep camping that thing and here's hoping you eventually get the drop.

I see, I guess, but I guess it's just personal as it seems I can never get claim/drop, and when someone else gets the drop, it's always to sell theirs >.>

Also, it's just the EX version, since the version you have is already rare.

I don't see that much of a problem with camping a Rare/Ex version of something you already own. If anything, the sales drive the price down some.

If i was some sort of crazy person (huh?) i would totally camp VE, get drop, toss it in the sand, and keep camping for more drops that i could toss out in the trash.

Because i can, :p and people would be all like OMG EVIL PERSON HERE /point/point and i'd be like lol.

    <.<;

    Not really..

Protip: Talk to everyone! (Nintendo's #1 tip of all time!)

There isn't anything you can do against rude people, except ignore them. I don't like to blacklist people, because I always get the feeling that if I do, they might start shouting or something about my character. No matter how little the damage, I'd like to know it's happening, you know?

Anyway, you are not doing anything wrong. He's just frustrated that you got it and he didn't (and he was too paranoid to believe you when you said he didn't drop anything, because 'everyone says that').

This is the basic problem with MMORPGs. You place a monster with a low spawn rate, with a low drop rate, with a good item, and everyone wants it. This brings out the worst in people, because many people will trade morality for the goods. It breeds secrecy (keeping the TOD to yourself, telling wrong TODs, telling people nothing dropped, even if it did.), cheating (accepting help and kicking the person to get the item to yourself, hacks to claim monsters etc.), jealousy (I've been here weeks, and someone happened by in the last 5 minutes and got it!), pretty much all the dark aspects of society.

When you think about it, the game's no longer about helping people and having fun, is it? It's about munchkinizing your character (What?! No Haubergeon/Scorpion Harness+1/Hauberk/Ridell/and so on?! GIMP!). It would be a lot better I think if people just left the parsers, the elitism, the arrogance at home, and just have fun once again, and there was a time when that happened...

Yeah, I'm getting off topic here. I don't see why you WOULDN'T be in your right to sell your hairpin and get another one. I don't recall in the TOS where it says "Oh yeah, you can't make some gil for your character by selling things you rightfully own on our Auction House." It's not that you DON'T love Final Fantasy, you just want to get some gil for your character, which is actually pretty hard to come by.

Probably the best way to avoid this in the future, however, is to either sell your hairpin now, and camp VE until you get your replacement, or don't wear your hairpin when you're camping VE.

That, or simply ignore the guy when he gets rude.
