  • Linkshell Dilemma

    Need some input if possible...
We have a fairly old LS and throughout the last year many members left to go to others things which left us with only half a dozen or so members.

We are a close little family but find that now we are getting into the higher levels with Limit Breaks, AF runs, and missions - we cannot function as a linkshell to help each other out with these events.

What makes a good linkshell? We are having a meeting to determine our fate and just need some suggestions if possible.

    Re: Linkshell Dilemma

Well my linkshell from day 1 has always been 6 people (we are real life friends) We've done everything together as one unit unless an alliance was required. Limit break 1 for example we did just while exping- granted those mobs that drop the items arent optimal but a party of 6 can do it- same with coffer keys. Genkai II was different b/c you really need 12+ people unless you have some powerhouse 70+, for that we just started the usual /sh in each lvl of Jueno until we got help we needed. Depending on what your goals as a LS are, a 6 person group can do a lot- perhaps with just a bit more patience than a larger one that has many higher lvl people to inlist the aid of. If you eventually want to do things like HMN camping, Dynmasis and other large group events, then you'll prob want to look into a larger LS that can accomodate those desires.
All in all, dont frown on your small closely knit group- you can do a lot.

Smaller ls tend to fair better in sticking together i ran a ls on ifrit we started with about 12 close friends from the game. we slowly built up the ls taking in newbs to help them learn and getting some other high level friends. We had about 60+ people in the ls but because i was going away i moved them all to a new shell because the more people you have the more problems.

        Re: Linkshell Dilemma

I personally feel that there needs to be a few core members of the LS that will stick by you with similar ideals, and if you say that your LS is like a close family(assuming you are leader), then it shouldnt be much of a problem. Also best not to have everyone as a pearl sack...it has been quite crappy in some LSs i am in that are like that >_>

My LS has a few core members, it started with 4 including me(we dont know one anothe irl), and well they are still here. At first you want more newbs to join you, and after a while i tried to lvl a whole bunch on my own, so i can help other people, i always almost bum off help shouting and its frustrating since people leave whenever they wanna in coffer pts for AF. Having a system put in place for help/events is good too, like rules saying if they can make it that day, they are to go do it immediately. If you dont have any 70+ people to help, you all must stick together, shout for help, and lvl up so other people can make it too.

thats all i can think of atm...i am sure if you stick together, you will all be fine, our LS is pretty oldschool too.

          Re: Linkshell Dilemma

My ls went through the exact same problem not too long ago. In fact a few of our higher members started their own lvl 50+ only LS to try and orginize help for the high lvl events better. It helps if you can pool all your higher lvl players together to see what resources you have, and starting a second LS did just that. But the important part is to remember not to completely abandon your original LS, and you as a leader must strive to assure people that your LS is not falling apart, even if it does get quiet a few days at a time.

Eventually all those who are lower lvls will start to catch up with the higher ones, and you'll have more help for the big things. And those first few members who struggled through their AFs and LBs and rank missions can help the other's through theirs with their new found experiances. But the most important part is making sure you all do stick together and help each other out, no matter what happens.

Small LS are ideal to handle. Only problem is for those event requiring an alliance of parties. That's when 6 people in an LS don't cut it and you're risking time, exp and whatever else trying to get things done with random passerbys ...

I came back from like a 3 month vacation from the game and my ls is completely empty. I'm lvl 25 thf, 20 war, 20 whm and 14 blm and yet, I don't have any ls.

Family? Yeah, thats what my whole LS is based upon. Even though, we have AT MOST 30 members, we are all a "Family" and we function as such. When building a LS, its not the size of the LS or the lvl of the ppl in it, but the relationship that the leader has with it and the relationship between the ppl in it.

With that said, I WILL HELP determine your fate. To become strong, you stay together. Your members must see that, no matter what, you will stick by them. Believe it or not, some members DO look up to you as a leader. So what, if you dont have enough ppl to do certain things? With ALL the ppl shouting in Jeuno for "Help with this" and "Help with that", do you really need to do these things alone? No. The 6 of you can easily find help.

Members will come and go, but the relationship you build between yourself and the other members determine if you LS survives or not. See L.C.N.'s Code of Honor.

                  Re: Linkshell Dilemma

my current ls is a pretty tight knit group at its core. Our old pearl disbanded and one member made a new one which most of us joined as well as some others. After a few months certain ppl faded out to other pearls and we had our base unit of maybe 15-25ppl.
Alot of our main players lvled to 75 and left for HNMLs activity, the real friends still popped in and several have come back to the shell as their main.
We recruit members as well, help ppl with genkai, sky, promyvian etc.
