Re: new to ffxi
Which sucks for people like me who are not endgame-ers. If the journey to the top is no fun, I couldn't give less of a rat's ass about the endgame. But I don't know about the beginning being boring. I had most of my 'fun' when I was a newb. I'd say it's more beginning = fun middle = slow end = fun and hectic.
Endgame isn't my thing even on games I enjoy/still play. I like to get to the top, then find some nice newbies to make into my Padawans. That's how I get enjoyment out of my games. I spent more time at level cap on Monster Hunter and LotRO helping out newbies or giving advice than I do on 'level appropriate' content. I've yet to step foot in a raid on LotRO, and I'm proud of that fact. XD Especially with the first level cap raise coming in a few months, why bother? Besides I have better things to do with 6 hours of my life than killing huge bosses for gear that may or may not drop, which I may or may not win, because there's 4 other hunters in the raid.
But that's just me. And is probably why I ended up giving up on XI. But if you love endgame, XI has a very solid one. And it has Tarutarus, which no other game has, and I do miss my Tarutaru very much. She was so cute in her Santa Hat.
There should be an offline FF set in Vana'diel with customizable races/classes a la Oblivion. I'd so be a Taru again.

Re: new to ffxi
Just remember to stick with the game, no matter how boring it gets. It might take months to start to have fun, but it is worth it in the end.

Re: new to ffxi
Odin has the most members. Every server has botting. But only in the endgame levels, so that's nothing you have to worry about right now.
Bahamut is also rather full.

Re: new to ffxi
They only want you to think that, Square-Enix really wants everyone to join Odin so we can watch a server implode on itselfOriginally posted by Silent Howler View PostJust don't go to Odin. >_>
Whiskey, let us know which server you pick. I will be starting soon and I am trying to find a server myself, any input you have about the server you join would be wonderful.
Good luck and hope you enjoy the game!

Re: new to ffxi
Just don't go to Odin. >_>Originally posted by Telera View PostAs to servers, the only real difference is slight variations in the economy, and perhaps in population. But by and large, they're all rather similar. There may be differences in how 'packed' endgame is, but I can't give any perspective on that. I never got to it before I quit.

Re: new to ffxi
What Telera said about servers is by-and-large the rule of thumb, though I've read elsewhere on these forums [from people asking the same question] is that the newest servers (Remora, Hades) might have a larger European contingent. Something to keep in mind if that describes your location.Originally posted by Whiskey View PostAlso I haven't picked a server yet because I don't really know the difference. Any help is appreciated. ^.^
You're best best is to find a good LS to join on whichever you join. If you end up on Shiva, feel free to look me up (Suquamish) to get a pearl to mine.
In the long run your race doesn't factor as heavily, and Humes in particular are the do everything race. If melee is your cup-o'-tea, you probably want to start out as Monk, get your sub-job at 18, then move to Thief or Warrior.Any suggestions on classes? Im going Hume race. I'd prefer to play something that does melee damage.

Re: new to ffxi
Yeah - that's a lot of fun - remember tho that FFXI isn't a game of button pushing or reflexes - it's a game of strategy and preparation.
Know your area, know your Mobs and know your job - you'll do fine!
