If you are unwilling to take a loss to gain skill, the only thing I can suggest is that you stop crafting. With very few exceptions in certain level ranges, all crafts are skilled up at a loss. Some crafts more than others, but still at a loss for the most part.

While I appreciate your comment Icemage I'd like to direct your eyes to my post above yours which says I would be willing to make a loss, preferably as small as possible but a loss none the less so I can bridge that gap to levels where I can make more of a profit. So that confusion (partly my fault) having been got out of the way, anyone got any constructive comments or ideas?

Anyone know what I can craft to make my LC go from 4-->10 or so, preferably making a profit, albeit small, just so I break even!
...Last time I checked, "break even" or "profit, albeit small" do not translate as "loss". You posted, I responded to what you posted.

If you're looking for things to craft in leatherworking, look here:

        http://mysterytour.web.infoseek.co.j...athercraft.htm

Do some market research and see what you can avoid losing as much money on. I haven't done any leathercrafting, but just looking at the formula list, I'm guessing that there are no profitable items until level 14 (Fishing Gloves) unless your server has some unusual pricing points.

Thanks again Icemage, sorry for the over-reaction but England just went out of Euro 2004, so I am a little angry...bias referee...
Thanks for the advice. I have done some MR now and have come to your same conclusion, gotta get me those Fisherman's Gloves!
Actually Icemage, I just read one of your previous posts I hadn't previously seen, what is Mining and Logging like? I mined once and pulled out a Darksteel Ore for an instant 7k, but that has only ever happened once after 12 mining spots and pick axes...but I see what you maen, Mining or Logging may be faster Gil in those respects...

From past experience, you can net about 5-20K per hour with mining (not counting Ifrit's Cauldron) under optimal conditions, and depending on where you mine.

Logging is also profitable, depending on where you log (~5K/hr in Ghelsba, vs. ~10K+ in Buburimu Peninsula), and can generate even more cash flow if you have very high level woodworking to convert the raw logs into multiple pieces of lumber with HQ synthesis.

With no support skills, however, I find that mining is more profitable than logging.

One alternate path for you, if you don't mind using a lot of time, but do mind taking a loss when crafting, is to level Fishing. I'm currently level 50 in Fishing and it has become one of my primary income sources, to the tune of 25K+ gil per hour or so. However, I estimate that getting to this level has cost me several hundred hours of play time.

I am level 8 in fishing, but recently I stopped bothering with it. I was catching 2 fish in 2 hours sometimes while i watched bots doing better than me. It pi**es me off to see bots standing there and knowing that the person behind them is gonna get 500K from the 3 of them come morning and I'll have got 0 Gil. At the moment I get a stack of Moat Carp for 4K every 2 or 3 hours, that is just not worth it is it? Or do you have any tips on carp? I also heard there is some anti-bot tactic or 'thing' screwing everyone over, is it a rumor or is it true?

I have only ever fished in my home town of San D'oria but things are pretty dire there too. I've mined in Bastok once got a few Zinc, Tin and a Darksteel. I need money but I also have the level grind to get on with!!!
