  • Official Woodworking Thread ^^ (0-60)

Hello, i have written down the best way to get to lvl 60 wodworking from my experiences with lvling this guild. I am currently stuck at lvl 60, so if anyone has any lvling synths after 60, please post them. I'm at L69 Woodworking right now.

L59-63. I bought 40 TaruTaru fishing rods with sliced sardine bait. Jump on the boat, break them all, go back to sandy with advanced support and repair them with light crystal.

L63-73. Same as above, but use Clothespole's instead with Meatball bait.

L73-80. Same as above, but use Lu Shang's

Most highlvl woodworkers are fishermen who wish to repair their Lu Shang's rod. Above is by far the cheapest and easiest way from L60-80

    Here is a good guide.

      Err....

Elm Log from 22-25? And shihei from 23-29?

You really want to revise that, imo. Silver arrows work beautifully from 22-29 or 30, and depending on the prices on your server, you can make the money back by selling stacks of silver quivers at the Jeuno AH.

Oak Lumber...also too expensive, imo. Aren't Oak Logs about 4k? And I doubt the lumber sells well, because I don't think it is used in many items. Beetle Arrows will work from 31-39. To get up to 31, well, just look around for what is cheapest. I think you can make tarutaru desks and bookholders, but that was a while ago, so it's a little hazy for me.

Bast parchment requires alchemy, I believe, so I would take that off the list as well.

Flower stands don't really give you much back, so I would also take that off the list. Basically, just go with arrows from lvl 22-60. Silver to 30, Beetle to 39, Horn/Fang to 49 (whichever arrow heads are cheaper), and then good ole Scorpions to 59.

At 60, well...it can get complicated, and expensive.

repair their lu shangs? i thought it couldn't break?
is it possible that it'll break during repair and be unrepairable?

I need to raise my woodworking then i guess thx for the guide.

I concur. You should do arrows pretty much all the way from 20 to 59. Take the high failure rates when well below the skill. It'll still be cheaper in the long run than trying to do some of the very expensive synths as a skillup.

And yes. Bast Parchment has a subskill requirement of Alchemy that caps at 29. Granted, if you're skilling up on shihei you can't make your own parchment. I'd only suggest doing shihei if you can at least make your own black ink from your own caught Nebimonite.

On my server, the cost for a stack of bast parchment is a little cheaper than the cost of a stack of shihei. The best, non hq, shihei result you can get from a stack of parchment is 2 stacks of shihei. So, if you can get relatively cheap black ink, you can almost double your money off of shihei.

Personally, the only way to do shihei is to make your own black ink and your own bast parchment, and get a few hq results. Then, since shihei moves pretty quickly, you will make some decent money.

As an exercise (I'm bored at work), let's find out how profitable it is to skillup off of shihei. I'm leaving off trivial costs like Win. Tea Leaves and Moko Grass. Note: values are AH average values, these will be different on different servers and subject to price fluctuation.

3 Nebimonite (value of about 4000 gil) +
3 Dark Crystal (value of about 800 gil) = 6 black ink

1 elm log (value of about 4000 gil) +
1 lighning crystal (value of about 100 gil) = 12 bast parchment

6 black ink (value of about 8000) +
12 bast parchment (value of about 5000) +
            6 wind crystals (about 750 gil) = 198 shihei (value of 12k)

            12,000
            -8000
            -5000
            -750
            ----------
-1750 net loss w/o any hq synths nor failures and using purely purchased materials.

So, overall not too bad if you have to buy most of the ingredients. But so much better if you can catch your own nebimonite, log your own logs, and farm your own crystals.

Now let's see how silver arrows do. A stack of silver arrows sells for about 1k on my server, a little more if quivered.

2 wind crystals (value of about 225) +
2 silver ingots (value of about 4000) = 12 silver arrowheads

12 wind crystals (value of about 1500) +
12 ash logs (value of about 1500) = 12 ash lumber (or more)

12 silver arrowheads (value of about 4000) +
            12 Yagudo fletching (value of about 300 ) +
12 ash lumber (value of about 5000) +
            12 earth crystals (value of about 300) = 396 silver arrows (4k)

            4000
            -4000
            -5000
            -300
            -300
            ---------
-5600 net loss /wo any hq synths or failures and using purely purchased materials.

So, you will do better off of shihei. But failures are much more costly doing shihei than doing silver arrows. It's just a matter of what you're willing to sacrifice to skillup. Sometimes, the availability of items determines your skillup path. And if you can make any of your own items (I had the luxury of being able to make my own free silver ingots from silver beastcoins) you can come out ahead.

Now that I've done this exercise, I think it's time for me to make a logging run to Ghelsba and get a few elm logs to make a lot of shihei from. Who knows, maybe I'll get a few hq results.

The skillpath I planned for myself skipped Shihei and Silver Arrows.

For 16-19, I'm going to make Holly Staffs (from the Holly Lumbers I make). If I don't have enough Holly Lumber, i'll just go straight into Maple Sugar till skill level 21.

From 21-23, I'll be making Maple Harps since Maple Logs are easy to get from logging. I also have a ton of Coeurl Whiskers (from hunting for Coeurl Hides to level my Leatherworking) so this should be easy. The Coeurl Whiskers are actually the expensive part of this formula I think.

From 23-27, i'm going to make Iron Arrows. These sell at a quick rate since they're the best arrows from 14-17 where they get replaced by Beetle Arrows (for the Ranged Accuracy boost).

From 27-31, i'm going to make Bookholders since they're relatively cheap to make.

From 31 and on ward I start with beetle arrows and follow the same path listed/suggested till skill level 73. Here, I'd rather make Mithran Rods then the much more expensive Lu Shangs rod to get to 83. I haven't planned any further then this yet though...

shihei is best to make, i think. arrows move very very slowly on AH since ur basically selling only to RNG in that lvl range. NIN and any class that subs NIN that tanks (WAR/NIN) will ALL buy shiheis at ALL levels (well.. i guess not pre12 nin or pre24 WARs). 23-29 was very fast since i could get shiheis sold at jeuno and also made a nice profit. gotta know the who's buying what ur making

might want to revise the 59-61. Chests are easy to make at that level and sell for a nice profit on midgard.

I think you're wrong. Bows and Arrows can be used the following:
                    Warrior/***
                    Paladin/***
                    Dark Knight/***
                    Thief/***
                    Samurai/***
                    Red Mage/***
                    Ranger/***
                    Ninja/***

8 different groups that can use arrows.

The groups that can use Shihei:
                    Ninja/***
                    ***/Ninja

                    Only 2 groups use Shihei.

On top of this, the materials needed to make Shihei are usually pretty expensive. Unless you have a high level Alchemist get HQ on making Black Ink or you get HQ on making the Shihei, you'll make more profit selling the arrows.

Also, bow/arrows do awesome damage even if you're NOT a Ranger. They're just slower then other weapons.

But what you are missing is that almost NONE of those classes use those arrows. A ranger will use them to pull/use normally. A thief will normally throw something because it makes no difference of damage on opening toss, and you rarely have other people pull much, (ok, so I just don't know how else others would pull, I'm a thf, heh)

As opposed to why people go /nin, for blinking. So those 2 groups also USE shihei all the time.

It's like a movie, if it's G you'll get a smaller audience, only kids and parents, but kids ALWAYS want to watch movies. Whereas making a PG-13 or R movie opens you to a much larger audience but that audience have a much smaller chance of seeing the movie.

the first post is basically what i did up to 22, but then i went to silver arrows till 30. the arrowheads can be hard to find, but you can at least see some decent profit from these if you quiver them and sell in jeuno. i havent had any problems selling stacks of 12 quivers over the weekend on kujata. i'll usually produce at least 2 stacks of 12 quivers per skill block, and any extras sell well as single quivers.

i really wouldnt recommend iron arrows, dragonhope =( i thought about doing this, but iron arrowheads are 5k a stack on my server o.O thats about 1250g worth of arrowheads to make one stack of 99, and stacks of irons only go for about 1k.

did beetle arrows till 39, but wish i had switched to fang because the profit was better and they sell a little faster. fang will cap at 42, so maybe do beetle till 34 or 35, then switch over. guess it depends if they're always sold out on your server like they are mine.

now workin on horn to get to 49. nearly there :spin:

imo ammo and other consumables always sell best because they're always *needed*. i find that furniture i make, besides not stacking, can take up to a week (RL) to sell. so while furniture can be hugely profitable, it doesnt seem very practical to skill up on =(
