Job Adjustments and Additions Part I (07/03/2009)
Jul 03, 2009 - 4:02 AM - by Rothy
Rothy's Avatar Job Adjustments and Additions Part I (07/03/2009)

Quote:
A host of job adjustments and additions are in the pipes for the upcoming version update, including formidable new abilities for ninjas. Other jobs, too, are scheduled to benefit from myriad adjustments to magic and abilities. In this, the first part in the job adjustment series of articles, we cast the spotlight on ninjas, Vana'diel's agents of stealth and deception.

New Job Abilities

Accomplished in both offense and defense, the art of ninjutsu has over the years proven to be a favorite among adventurers across the land. Now, with the addition of the following two new abilities, ninjas can further enhance either their efficiency in offense or aptitude in defense as befits the situation.

- Yonin (Lv.40 Ability Delay: 5 min. Duration: 5 min.)
Increases enmity and enhances "ninja tool expertise" effect, but impairs accuracy. Grants a bonus to evasion and critical hit rate when in front of target.

- Innin (Lv.40 Ability Delay: 5 min. Duration: 5 min.)
Reduces enmity and impairs evasion. Grants a bonus to accuracy, critical hit rate, and ninjutsu damage when striking target from behind.

- Yonin
Strengthens one's ability to fend off blows from the enemy.
While in effect, Yonin increases enmity and enhances the effect of "ninja tool expertise" in exchange for reduced accuracy. Further bonuses are granted to evasion and critical hit rate when engaging your target from the front.
The potency of the above effects gradually decreases over time.

- Innin
Strengthens one's ability to deal damage to the enemy.
While in effect, Innin lowers enmity in exchange for reduced evasion. Further bonuses are granted to accuracy, critical hit rate, and ninjutsu damage when striking your target from behind.
As with Yonin, the potency of the above effects gradually decreases over time.

*Notes

The effects of both Yonin and Innin are mutually exclusive. Activating one while the other is in effect will result in the nullification of the one

Moblin Maze Mongers Delve Deeper Into Your Heart! (06/26/2009)

Not content to rest on their laurels as the foremost—and only—purveyors of custom dungeons in Vana'diel, the Moblin Maze Mongers have been working overtime on their latest Maze Voucher that will usher in a whole new subterranean adventure in the upcoming version update!

My Gobbie and I With the new Maze Voucher, players will be able to participate in a new challenge in which they and a Goblin companion must maneuver their way through a maze teeming with fiendish foes. In order for your operation to be deemed a success, your comrade must survive the journey intact.

The Power of Gob Have no fear, for this Goblin is no defenseless dunce! By defeating enemies that lurk in the maze, your companion will gain strength and grow into a formidable ally. Defend him from harm, but take care not to be overprotective—slay too many foes yourself, and you will find your Gobbie's growth as an adventurer stunted.

Gob of All Trades Your Goblin companion will begin the quest with the "All-Rounder" job—well-balanced in a variety of skills, but master of none. By reaching Level 5 and fulfilling certain conditions, he will be eligible to switch to a more specialized position.

The career choices available to your Gobbie include the close-combat specialist "Walloper," the ranged attack marksman "Barrager," and the magic-wielding "Spellslinger." Each specialized job also comes with unique abilities, which your Goblin will unleash

Today we bring you the 9th Vana'diel Census, which marks the seventh anniversary of FINAL FANTASY XI.
In addition to the familiar information, we've mixed in data from the preliminary survey to dig deep and show the true face of the community.
Other fascinating never-before-seen statistics such as how merit points are used and the number of players who have earned one of the coveted mythic weapons are also included!

---------------------------------------------------------------

Introduction

On May 16, 2009, FINAL FANTASY XI celebrated the seven-year anniversary of its launch in Japan! This past year has brought us the first of three new add-on scenarios featuring a variety of new stories expanding on the world of FINAL FANTASY XI.

To better understand the game’s players, we tried something different for the 9th Vana’diel Census and performed a preliminary survey. Using the results of the survey for reference, we’ve attempted to show the current state of the community by analyzing and looking at the data from every side possible!

Celestial Nights 2009: Love Lights the World (06/19/2009)
Jun 19, 2009 - 7:52 AM - by Amberly
Amberly's Avatar Celestial Nights 2009: Love Lights the World (06/19/2009)

Celestial Nights—the event honoring an age-old tale of a love eternal and true—will soon be here! In a reprise of last year's festivities, the royal couple of legend, Princess Amdina and Prince Yahiko, will return to the streets of all three nations. Come one, come all, to bear witness as a love thought forever lost is reclaimed!

*The Celestial Nights event is scheduled to commence on Friday, June 26 at 1:00 a.m. (PDT) and conclude on Wednesday, July 8 at 1:00 a.m. (PDT).

Once upon a time, the prince and princess of two rival nations on opposing sides of a great river fell in forbidden love. Neither the enmity between their countries nor the vast body of water that separated them could extinguish their feelings for one other. But their story would end prematurely, and in tragedy.

Thus was born the tradition of Celestial Nights—a time when the people of Vana'diel come together in the shared hope of rejoining the royal couple in their celestial realm.

Under the auspices of the Mog House Management Union (MHMU), the event has matured to become a perennial favorite among the citizens. But much to the moogles' dismay, the standing ovations scheduled for last year's event did not come to pass as anticipated. What was intended to be rivulets of tears streaming down the faces of toughened critics turned into a deluge of derision-laden disdain. Consequently, moogle reputation for competence in the field of entertainment production plummeted to a historic low.

The fault lies neither with the script nor stage direction, but the flawed casting process...or so the organizers claim. Determined to make up for last year's humiliating outcome, the MHMU has sanctioned the running of another open-air theater event in the same vein as the last.

How will this bold second attempt be received by critics and the public?
Will it avenge the failures of the past and restore critical acclaim to mooglekind?
Or will it prove to be a commercial flop, as most sequels are wont to do?
As has become tradition, the MHMU is yet again relying on the kindness of adventurers to see it through this latest of darkest hours!

Campaign Gets Reinforcements! (06/15/2009)
Jun 15, 2009 - 3:21 AM - by Karinya
Karinya's Avatar (From the FFXI official website)

The upcoming version update will see exciting developments in Campaign, including the opening of new areas, the introduction of the "Union" system, and a host of other additions and refinements.

The Battlefront Moves North!

The following areas will become potential sites for future Campaign conflicts:
Beaucedine Glacier (S) / Xarcabard (S)

New Campaign Medals!

Currently, the highest decoration players may be awarded through evaluation is the coveted "Wings of Honor." With the new version update, two yet more prestigious distinctions will be unlocked, and the corresponding equipment—including body armors for each nation—will be added to the items obtainable with Allied Notes.

All for One and One for All! Introducing the "Union" System

Building upon the existing parties and alliances, the new version update will allow players to form larger battle regiments known as "Unions." By joining a Union, players may take part in Campaign operations on an expanded scale and receive a wide assortment of battle spoils for successful efforts.

To join a Union, a player need only seek out a Campaign Arbiter while in possession of Allied Tags. Any Campaign Arbiter will heed your request, regardless of nation affiliation.

Great riches await triumphant Unions, including but not limited to the ancient currencies obtainable in Dynamis, a wide assortment of synthesis materials, and the spoils of vanquished Beastman Confederate captains. Such rewards will be distributed via Union treasure caskets after the conclusion of each battle.

Scavengers be forewarned! Those who sit back on the sidelines to let their allies do the dirty work will find themselves denied their share of the spoils. Soldiers must make sufficient contribution to the cause to be eligible to reap the rewards.

Warning Regarding PlayOnline ID and Password Fraud

It has come to our attention that certain individuals are contacting FINAL FANTASY XI players in-game, and referring them to fake websites resembling the log-in page of the official Linkshell Community site. The fraudulent site directs players to enter their PlayOnline ID and password, with the intent of using the collected information to compromise the account. We are currently investigating and working to take the appropriate actions against these malicious websites.

Be careful with your information so as not to become a victim of "phishing." Do not disclose your PlayOnline ID or password to anyone or attempt to log-in anywhere other than the official FINAL FANTASY XI Linkshell Community and PlayOnline website.

*The only exception is when dealing directly with a PlayOnline Information Center representative via the PlayOnline Service & Support Web Chat system. You may be asked for your PlayOnline ID or registration code in such cases.

Also, please note that no Square Enix representative (Game Master (GM) staff included) will ever ask you to provide your PlayOnline ID or password from within the game or via e-mail. If you experience such a request while in-game, please contact a GM to report it.

Keep your data safe! Keep your PlayOnline ID and Password secure!
