Red face When can I travel to other nations?

Hi, what level do you need to be for travelling to other nations? Or can I just try to walk to Windurst or San d'Oria (I'm in Bastok myself)?

Thanks for any replies!

Re: When can I travel to other nations?

You can travel to other nations any time you want if you want to walk it just watch out for the aggro you'll get on the way. Airship pass is the reward for completing rank 4 home nation missions and chocobo liscence can be obtained in jeuno at level 20 if i remember correctly.

If your in basty you can walk to windy be S > N gustaberg > Konsckat Highlands > Valkurm Dunes > Selbina > Ferry to Mhuara > Bubiruma Penisula > Thairongi Canyon > West > east sarubuta but its a hell of a treck and not worth it less theres something you desperately need to get there.

For Sandy S > N gustaberg > Konsckat Highlands > Valkurm Dunes > lat theine plateau > East ronfature

And before someone gets on at the spelling I know most are incorrect but there close enough so :-P

Re: When can I travel to other nations?

Walking from town to town is completely possible, though there aren't any rewards for it. It can be useful to take such an early crash course in aggro avoidance, though, and you'll appreciate the memories later. Going from Bastok, you might want to take the long way-- going through the Marshlands, Rolanberry Fields, Batallia Downs, and Jugner Forest; instead of the much shorter route through Valkurm. The Bastok exit to Valkurm is linked to the main part of the map by a tunnel that contains bats that are nearly impossible to avoid, unless you're willing to sit around and wait until some other poor soul grabs their attention, or will kill them for you. But then, if you have someone else kill them, you can't really say you got there on your own.

I would rather risk a pair of tri bats than 3 zones full of all kinds of Mid level aggro mobs Quadav, goblins, malboro, goobu, tigers etc. But if you are going to attempt it you can drop into jeuno.

I was proud the first time i walked from basty to jeuno before i had my choco liscence long as you've got your wits about you you can make it, just look what aggros and how they do it sight sound blood etc

Re: When can I travel to other nations?

Thank you all for your replies! These are definately helpfull. But, since I am quite a newbie at this...aggro can be defined as a condition for attracking monsters, right? So if you make noise, you can get attacked by this monster, or when you use magic, some other monster comes at you...am I right? Please knock me down, if I sound like a total noob...which to be honest, I am...

Re: When can I travel to other nations?

Some Beastman for example aggro to sight, so if you walk infront of one of them and cross its line of sight it'l aggro.
Skeletons/Weapons Slimes etc are sound, so if you walk past them without some sort of sneak on, whm spell sneak/silent oils etc they will aggro to you.
Undead including above mentioned skeles/ghosts ets will aggo to blood ie HP in the yellow or red levels so make sure youve got sneak and arnt in the above mentioned hp levels.
Elementals will aggro if you cast magic near them.
And to round it off everything will aggro if you hit it and or cast magic on it )

Theres nothing wrong with being new every one was at some point even if they dont care to admit. and everyone has there noob moments, eg i just found out that the reason i was hitting for zero in campaign is cause the quadav use a buff to prevent damage from the back (I've been doing campaign on and off for 6 months and didnt know that lol.) always aggrovated me that at 75 some ppl could hit it and no matter what i did i kept hitting for zero.

FFXI wiki Aggro

Also in response to the above post, not all beastmen detect by sight. Quadav detect by sound and you will find these on your route out of Bastok.

It's four extra zones. And really, at that point, if you aggro anything you're basically dead anyway, it's just a matter of how long you want to play 'keep-away OR DIE'.

I did make it from jeuno to the sch flag to get the job on a level 1 rdm cause its the only mage i had i was willing to risk dying on with no pots that was fun

Except that you can get through the other 4 zones as easily as you can get through Valkurm, yet there's no way to get past those Tri Bats unless you use a Silent Oil or someone else does something about them (in which case you're no longer risking anything.)

Re: When can I travel to other nations?

Honestly, levels 1-3 are ideal for this kind of thing anyway, you can aggro-dodge the whole way if you are patient and observant, and using a low enough level job means that you won't lose xp if you die in the attempt. If you're going to try for Windurst, you'll want to go by way of the Selbina-Mhaura ferry; don't go above deck, it's very risky at such a low level, but as long as you stay below deck you'll be safe. Note that you'll have the opportunity to set your home point along the way at the North Gustaberg/Konschtat Highlands border (gate guard) and at Selbina/Mhaura, which may help if you find yourself dying/warping much (though if you are confident in your aggro-dodging ability, you may want to skip Selbina to save time if you're heading to San d'Oria).

Edit: Whoops, almost forgot about the bats in the tunnel. Yeah, there's no way to avoid them, you either find some way to sneak yourself or you wait for someone to kill them. Back in the day you could be sure someone would come by and kill them if you waited a little while, dunno what the situation is like now.

Protip: Change to a level one job and just run. Set your homepoint along the way.

Then again, if you're going to other nations just to go to other nations, you might try waiting until you can chocobo or need to go there for your missions.

Or whatever.
