Sea organ farming

So I just got sea a couple days ago and I was looking to start In the Name of Science.

I was curious what kind of setup is needed to farm the various organs? How tough are the various mobs? I'm interested in the Shadow Gorget so it seems I need a bit of everything.

Re: Sea organ farming

Gorgets are a pain in the butt.

The organs for the Obis and Gorgets for In The Name of Science all come from the outdoor area of Al'taieu. Most of the enemies can be solo'd by the stronger solo jobs (NIN, SMN, RDM, etc.) or duo with most jobs. However, Gorgets require Yovra organs... and to get those, you need to kill either Ul'yovra or Om'yovra (those big gigantic jellyfish that come flying down from the sky to beat you to a bloody smear).

Defeating Yovras requires either two Ninja tanks with some dedicated Sleepers to handle short term Charm (which is also hate reset), or lots of pet jobs like SMN and BST. You can also zerg them down with lots of people (12+), but that takes more manpower.

Best I've done is kill an Ul'yovra with BRD WHM SMNx3, and even there it was hard because of their horrendous HP Regen effect (native, and non-dispellable).

Thats good going there Icemage! The best I have done is Ul'Yovra with 4, but with more traditional nin, rng, whm and rdm. We were kind and didn't try to kill the nin when he got charmed. But they are not fun, and should never be taken lightly.

Re: Sea organ farming

As others have said the Yovra is going to be the biggest challenge. Sucks that Shadow gorget needs 2. In my LS everyone needs one for their gorget...

I just recently did this quest so I can give some tips on the organ farming maybe.
I basically organized an organ farming/skill up group. I tried to get everyone (who could) to sub ninja so that People(mages) could spend more time skilling up and less time healing.

We camped at the west tower. There are a lot of the higher level Hpemde and they seem to drop organs better than their lower level counterparts. Also, I think we were able to get the higher level Phuabo they would pretty often drop 2 organs at once. We had thf in the party. I was told by someone TH didn't have an impact on organ drops but I don't know if they were messing with me because I felt it did. Also, I am not sure why, but the lower level Xzomits seemed to drop organs better than the higher level single ones. (only the head of the 'family' dropped organs for us)

I was able to farm all the organs I needed in one day like this, people got skill ups and everyone got a little experience. Note: I got an Obi even though I didn't need it just so I could get Virtue Stones, so I didn't need a Yorva

~ Happy hunting!

Re: Sea organ farming

THF definitely helps for organs. The drop rate is much improved with a THF, and slightly more so with AF2 gloves and/or Thief's Knife.
