Whats a clamming point for?

I found spots labeled as Clamming points, what are these for?

To do clamming, NPC on that island you talk and they'll give you a bucket. It's basically like digging just if the bucket breaks you loose what you had. Fun little event if you have HQ Swimsuit it helps even more with it.

Should also mention if you get the right amount in the bucket without breaking and take back you'll get a larger bucket, the larger the bucket you get the better items you can get from clamming.

But don't get a to large bucket or an alurane will think it looks like a nice pot and will jump inside.
