Re: Status Ailments (How to spot them?)

Well, silence is different. If you have melee jobs that used np Mp (Nin the exemption), you wont need silena. Just let them be silenced and dont silena them. If the people who are silenced are mages, will tell you they are silenced. The worms in Qufim are good practice for that with the Sound Vacume. I think its an AoE, so anyone around the worm will get silenced. When you see that go off, silena the melee that need it, then just continue.

Just gotta know what moves the mobs use, what they do.

Re: Status Ailments (How to spot them?)

Sound Vacuum is single-target, and it's something to watch for with a real tank ... PLD self-cures, NIN uses Utsusemi, and for that matter BLU can tank pretty well in that level range...

Re: Status Ailments (How to spot them?)

Even if you miss Silence from time to time, mages should have echo drops and should not be bitching at you to Silena them all the time.

Then again, people who don't carry echo drops are an entirely different pet peeve of mine that probably doesn't belong in this thread, but any good mage will bring them along with them.

Re: Status Ailments (How to spot them?)

I totally agree with Aksannyi's post.
I always say if there's a status ailment that will affect your performance that will basically render you useless, You should at least carry a few items to remedy it and not rely on somebody else to put you back in action.

An old saying of mine is "A silenced mage is a dead mage" or at worst a dead pt.
Echo drops are pretty cheap nowadays compared to what they were. it's a few k that you'd spend on a stack or two. but it's worth it in the long run.

Re: Status Ailments (How to spot them?)

Firewind's Guide to Spotting Abnormal Status Effects

Poison
Your alliance chat turns into something like this:
Quote:
"{Poisona}!"
"{Poisona}!"
Sorry big pull coming up
"{Poisona}!"
"{Poisona} {Can I have it?}"
"ZOMG U SUCKS I HAS POZINS"
"SOMEONE CURE ME!"
"Raise please"
"Guys I'm still poisoned"
You do not have enough MP to cast Poisona
OMG CUE MY POISON!
Mob begins to cast Sleepga II
You have been killed by some mobs that resisted Sleepga II
*short pause*
ZzZzZz
ZzZZZZ
ZZZZZZ
HALP SLEEP!
I'M STILL POISONED!
HAY GAIS TEH WHMS NOT CASTIN GET A RDM
Usually the higher the frequency of the polite reminds that 18 people including yourself just got poisoned and the chaos going on over Vent is inversely proportionate to how many HP per tick the poison will take off with 1HP/tick causing the most drama.

Paralyze
Hate actually stays on the main tank until you need to start curebombing. Then the party wipes and blames everything on the tank for not holding hate who then suddenly blames you because you forgot to filter out unnecessary things like the alliance chat.

Sleep
Something happens to the keyboard of your alliance where they are only able to communicate by going "ZZZZZ" for up to 90 seconds. Any other attempt at communicating with you even over vent seems to go out of the window and you are left staring at this strange phenomenon while you which your sublimation was still ticking on you rather than remaining fully charged.

Amnesia
The DDs suddenly remember that nobody cares about their epeen and they actually let the tanks keep hate. Sadly this positive status effect does not seem to last for very long.

Petrify
The party starts to demand that you cast Stone on them even though while you can cast Stone with the right subjob, it cannot be used on your own party members nor does it cure this status effect.

Slow
The alliance starts to remind you that White Mages only have two spells: Haste and Raise III quite rudely and loudly over vent.

Blind
The DDs start acting as though someone has just sprayed something unpleasant into their eyes and start screaming about being unable to see over vent.

Bind
You see the entire party suddenly start moonwalking.

Curse
Tarus start demanding a raise more than they usually do.

KO
Someone starts very loudly reminding you that White mages only have two spells: Raise III and Haste

Funny, but unfortunately, Provoke is also a JA, so tanks actually get screwed worse than anyone.

Tanks can still Flash and Cure under the effects of Anmesia unless you have a NIN tanking in which case you should go back to exping on lolibri :p

Flash has a 45 second cooldown, and you can't cure until someone is wounded, probably the person you were trying to keep hate off of.

Of course it's worse if you got your amnesia from qiqirn instead of imps, because then the DDs *don't* have it and won't hold back WS until you get your provoke back. Fortunately, qiqirn are rarely fought outside Nyzul Isle and a few Assaults.

Re: Status Ailments (How to spot them?)

I love how Japanese players are always so team oriented and courteous when it comes to [support role job]. If someone has /WHM subbed in party, whoever it is, they assist in curing and status removal, even if it takes away from their precious nuking time. They just help where it is needed. Some of my most epic and fun parties were with Japanese players.

And to the OP, don't beat yourself up too much. Just have fun playing the job and helpin support your teammates and keepin them safe. Trust me, after playing for a month, you'll become very familiar with attack animations and what mobs use what skills, because it all becomes a disgusting blur after a while lol.

A majority of them are like that. Most of them are kind as well in game if you don't piss them off. I've gotten more help from random Japanese players in game than I have from my close friends, and LS members.

A tad late but...in practice you mean 37 second cooldown, the party shouldn't be keeping everyone topped off, and a good PLD in a party with adequate MP power will be eating sushi and holding hate easily.

Don't know about NINs. They look pretty screwed to me, but their recent changes might have alleviated the situation.

I hate to break the great JP Player Myth, but I've had some pretty shady run-ins with JP players. Everything from mages that sit on full mp all battle to one guy who threw a fit because someone else in the party dropped their controller and accidentally aggroed something causing a party wipe. I've had a fair share of them just vanish into thin air in the middle of a party too. That's not to say there aren't helpful and competent JP players out there(I have at least two on my white-list), but they have just as many assholes and idiots as we do. They just tend to be less vocal and more skittish.

I know there are a few bad ones out there. Thats why I didn't say all of them. But most of the Jp players I have rtun into, are helpful. Only a few of them aren't from my experiance.
