Re: Macros
Cure II.

Seriously though, the best way to answer that question is to ask yourself what spells you use the most. Generally it's going to be your cures, your regens, your status removals (poisona, paralyna, etc.), your white mage enfeebles (Dia, Paralyze, Slow), and your bar-spells, if you like. Everyone does things a little bit differently.

Re: Macros
Cure
Dia
Paralyze
Banish (if you want to skill up your divine magic)
Poisona
Paralyna
Cure II
Slow
Blindna
Slience
Curaga
Shell (see Protect II below)
Shellra
Blindna
Silena
Blink
Sneak
Cure III
Regen
Invisible
Raise (not totally necessary but nice instead of fumbling with the list)
Protect II (for the random person that is not in range and misses protectra and/or the ninja that accidentally cancels his lol)
Protectra II
Stoneskin

Bar spells are up to you. They are easy to pick out of the magic list so in the lower levels I didn't bother. After you get staves at 51 you might want to macro some.

Re: Macros
My WHM macros are long overdue for an overhaul, but since we got all those shiny books with tons of macro space there's plenty of room to do it.

I keep cure spells on one "line," Barspells on another, -na spells on another, and Random stuff I use often like RR3, R3, Divine Seal, Repose (saves my butt!!!!).

And I'm even planning to make a line for my Whinja, complete with Utsu macros and WS macros.

But my best advice for you is put the spells on macro that you use a lot. Cures, definitely. And then, once you get to playing with your macros a bit, move them around so they are the most convenient for you and easy for you to find. I've played my ex-husband's WHM, my own WHM, and my boyfriend's WHM and we all have different setups for our WHM macros, it's what works best for us, and there's no right or wrong way to do it, just however you feel most comfortable. Definitely liked my own setup best, but once I got the hang of their macro sets it wasn't bad at all.

I just re-read that and realized how awful it sounds with the ex-husband and boyfriend lol.

Re: Macros
I always like to recommend at least one macro devoted to casting the highest cure you have on a specific person when playing WHM, for the party's tank; i.e. '/ma "Cure III" Tankname'.

I would just rewrite the name of the tank in each new party, people tend to be doing equip swaps at lower and lower levels lately, and you don't want them blinking out at a bad time or you being unable to target them for some other reason to keep you from curing them.

My mother warned me to avoid girls who were loose with whose WHM they'd play.

Re: Macros
The Grandmoms list is pretty good just wanted to add in that by 28 it's possible you will have a couple swap in resting pieces. I have one macro that sets me resting (/heal on) and swaps in my resting gear and one macro that gets me back up (/heal off) and swaps all my gear back.

Lik Aksannyi said, macros are very personal and god do mine need overhaulling again. Don't worry about what macros you have too much, worry about your speed/efficiency. A good macro set up is one that helps you react to things as quickly as possible, so long as your macro set does that for you it's a good one. Try a few different ways of doing things and see which works best for you.

For example, I like to keep all my status removes macroed, so they are always in the same place. I know other people who have 3-4 slots for status remove macros and just change them to whatever they need at the time and some people who don't macro status remove spells at all. It doesn't matter how you do it so long as you get the spell you need quickly.

The one thing I would say is don't be afraid to spread your macros out a bit and leave yourself some room to expand. Hitting macros can,and ideally should, become fairly subconcious and if you have to move things around a lot because you ran out of room it will slow you down and increase your mishits for a while.

Re: Macros
Wait, so barspells are easy to pick out of the list so shouldn't be macroed, but spells like Raise and Protectra should?

Re: Macros
I noted after Raise that it wasn't necessary.

As far as Protectra goes, most whms put a call and post a warning they are about to cast it so it would be silly to not also put the command to cast it in the same macro.

/p {Gather together.} {Protectra} + {Shellra}! <call11>
/wait 2
/ma "Protectra V" <me>
/wait 7
/ma "Shellra V" <me>

As far as bar spells go, I said...

I do not find them necessary to macro in the lower levels. If I were to macro any then it would be Barfira but thats about it.

Re: Macros
I always kept Barfira and Barwatera macroed at all levels, if only because of the number of crabs you fight at many levels.

Now I keep them all macroed, in fights like JoL it's much easier to have a macro for Baraera when it starts casting Graviga than to attempt to find it or type it.

Re: Macros
I just can't imagine why anyone would bother to macro spells they use so rarely. But hey, different strokes.

Re: Macros
My favourite WHM guide.

The author is currently still working on her macro section actually. It's less of a 'do this' guide, more of a 'here's the info, do as you will' guide (just with tips^^).

All very nicely grouped and presented, typical of the WHM guide as a whole.

Oh, Warp. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways...

Re: Macros
i only leveled whm to 43ish for sub and teleports, but i found that a lot of times in lower lvl parties the group doesn't pay much attention to where your mp are and keep pulling. so i started ending most of my macros with:

/p <mp> @ <mpp> {please check it}

this way i didnt need to constantly tell the puller im low on mp bonehead! i never got any crap about it from parties, and was complimented a few times for it being a great idea.

again i only took it to 43 so not sure how annoying this may be at endgame...

doesn't it figure? we should have known the devil is a female... it seems so obvious now

Re: Macros
Argh. Please don't spam your parties with every cure. >_<

Make an extra macro instead:
/party MP: <mp> (<mpp>) No more MP! <call>
Hit that if the puller runs off when you have low MP.

I’m in pain, but I’m happy.
It hurts, but I can smile.
That’s why I can tell you from the depths of my being…

Re: Macros
yeah, uh, that's just spamming.

Quite honestly, if your puller doesn't check your MP, he deserves to die. When he gets back, keep sitting until you have MP. If they die, it's their fault, not yours.
