Hi, I've restarted FFXI again today, and I'm very excited about being a WHM. But I want to do my best and be a good WHM. MACROs seem like really vital parts of being a good WHM. I checked an FAQ, but still am unsure on what macros would be good to start with? I.E. level 1-15? BRD 75 WHM 44 NIN 23 WAR 20 THF 16 RDM 16

Healing: - Cure
- Cure II
- Curaga
- Paralyna
- Poisona
- Blindna
Buffs: - Protectra + Shellra
- Barwatera (dependent on what you're fighting.)
- Barfira (dependent on what you're fighting.)
- Sneak
- Blink
Enfeebs: - Dia
- Paralyze
- Silence
- Slow
Utility: That should be an OK set up to Lv.20, but I did that really fast and may have skipped something.
Do NOT macro Diaga, do not use party chat in any macro except Protectra + Shellra, and maybe Sneak. (People will want to slap you if you put /p lines in your cure macros.) Also, the Bar-spell macros should be altered depending on what you are fighting. (e.g. Baraera for birds; Barwatera for crabs, pugil, and flies; Barfira for Goblins; etc.)

I've made a tutorial for Red Mage macros; you may want to glance it over and see if there's anything you find applicable for your White Mage, especially the parts about resting and enfeebling spell macros. “ I’m in pain, but I’m happy.”
“ It hurts, but I can smile.”
“ That’s why I can tell you from the depths of my being…” | | ::Quote Selected:: | | The following user says "Thank You" to IfritnoItazura for above post: | | | 11-26-2007, 10:22 AM | #3 (permalink) | | Pocket Taru Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: Kansas City, MO Posts: 2 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 3 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 134 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 134 Donate | Re: Beginner Macros? Hello Prons!
I'm in a pretty similar boat, just started a couple weeks ago and am leveling RDM & WHM.
One of the things I found with my macros was that altering them slightly for different circumstances can make them more effective for your purposes. At the low levels especially when you're slipping back and forth between grouping and soloing, you might want to experiment with them.
Examples:
/ma "Cure" <stpc>
Used in a party where you will be actively engaged in combat, this will allow you to choose a target by pressing the appropriate F key and then cast with Enter. (Sorry, I don't know the corresponding console commands yet!)
/ma "Cure" <t>
Used in a party where you will not be engaged in combat, this will allow you to choose your target and then heal, saving a button cast. Easier for spamming when you get "Unable to cast spells at this time" message.
/ma "Cure" <me>
Used when soloing for least button pressing of all! Automatically targets you and casts without taking your focus off of the creature you are fighting.
I hope you enjoy your career as a WHM, it is definitely a rewarding one! Especially with a good party of people.

The great thing about nowadays with the update and all the macro books is that you don't have to really rewrite any macros, you can just put your soloing macros in one book and your party macros in another, which saves you the hassle of fiddling around with them. What Serenita said used to be necessary to conserve space, but now it really isn't anymore, and if you're gonna level just one or two jobs, you'll have so much macro space you won't know what to do with it all. ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~Aksannyi~~Hades~~75WHM~75RDM~62WAR~71BLM~~Mama Gamer~~<3 Cerealkiller~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 11-26-2007, 10:39 AM | #5 (permalink) | | Pocket Taru Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: Kansas City, MO Posts: 2 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 3 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 134 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 134 Donate | Re: Beginer Marcos? You guys pretty much covered everything..
I'll just say that from 1-20 your life will be relatively simple. You don't have a lot of gear to swap, you don't have a lot of spells, and you won't need to use each and every spell available because the mobs are relatively simple. So, here's some spells to keep ready and macro'd depending on what you're likely to fight on a given day:
Poisona - Lizards, Flies, Crawlers
Paralyna - Dogs, Funguar
Barwatera - Crabs, Flies, Lizards, Pugils
Barfira - Goblins
Baraera - Bats
Barpoisonra - Lizards, Flies, Crawlers
Other than that, use these early levels to learn your timing on cures.
