Advice: Erase

Here's the dilemma. I'm 44, and I don't have Erase, it's 350k at the AH in Jeuno. And people I'm grouping with are complaining that I don't have it.

Now I know it drops from BCNM, which is fine and good, but I've never successfully done a BCNM, and I don't know any bards. And when I've done it, all drops go straight to the AH, and you get a share of the profit. So if it drops, I get money from the sale of the spell, not the spell.

So, I need some suggestions. Should I attempt to farm 350k? Should I level a Bard to 40 (currently 26)? Should I pay people to go with me to BCNM?

How did you get it?

How did you get it?

People complain? I ask if the WHM has it, if not, I just go "Bah, too bad." I don't think it makes that much of a difference. My suggestion is, go do BCNM40 with a group as a WHM. Make sure they know you're there for Erase though...make sure the people are trustworthy too.

I'm sure there has been a couple threads posted on this subject already, but here's my experience.
When I first hit 40 I was gung ho for Erase. I was upset when my set party said it would go right on the Auction House if BCNM40 dropped it. (We went 5/6 and it didn't drop once btw).
2 mages I know bought it for around 290-300k, they are both pretty high level, 50 and 58 and they both said the same thing to me: Don't buy it! They both say they wish they hadn't dropped 300k on a spell that, from what I've read, really only becomes useful around 60+.
My advice to you : tell the people whom complain about you not having erase to shut their pie holes. Better to spend that money on dark/light staff at 51. Also educate yourself on the spell so you can educate others who tell you how to do your job. Erase only takes away status effects like DEX Down, ATK Down, stuff like that. It wont remove status effects there is already a cure for, and contrary to popular belief, it will not remove weakness due to being raised.

I've yet to get erase as well, and takin flak on it from my set party's thf because he got str down one time in 4 hours of exping and said 300k gil is nothing (put his dmg from 7-8 down to 5-6 per hit).

Maybe after I finish getting the 500k Dark Staff and every other piece of equip I could ever want I might buy it (so practically never).

You could also just carry some melee food with and you and when someone complains about wanting a stat down effect erased just hand them the food (90% of those that complain aren't eating food).

The reason they want it is because apparently Erase removes raise effects. Now, I'd rather deal with never raising anyone in my group, but gung-ho warriors being what they are... and I don't even know if that really works, considering I've never had the spell in the first place.

But in all seriousness, how the heck do I get into a BCNM group? Should I set it up? Do people actually join a BCNM group? Or should I shop around for an LS? Last time I was picked up out of the blue, and had to deal with their arrangements.

I'll reiterate something I explained earlier. Erase does not remove raise effects. Just in case, I'll say it again.
Erase does not remove weakness caused by raise. It does not remove raise effects. Catch that?

BCNM40 is best with a group of people you know. Have the best equipment for level 40, and make sure you have a bard who knows what he's doing. Usually if you put something like "BCNM40 = OK" in your search comment, someone might grab you. I would strongly advise against going with people you dont know who haven't done it before.

Your friends are completely wrong! To be honest, I have no idea what you could possible use erase for in the 40's. I did buy it around level 50, and I do get quite a bit of use out of it since then for things like eva down. Could I live without it? Sure. It's not like stona where if you don't have it and it's needed you will earn a bad reputation.

My money probably would have been better spent on a light staff earlier. But that said it is a useful spell past 50, and I find I cast it quite often in the time after genkai 1.

As far as getting it, that's hard. Re bcnm most people would want to split the prizes and sell them. Could camp nm's if you can handle competetion.

i farmed for my erase. however, i didnt get it until around level 60. :sweat: honestly, you should be much more concerned with earning gil for raise ii. well, unless of course its very cheap on your server. people in your parties shouldnt be complaining that you dont have erase, especially that early on in the game.

Get your friends that are complaining, and have them go do BCNM40 until it drops for you. If people need an upgrade from there, they get it, simple. Sell the excess.

Edit: I'd recommend doing giddeus, as it is the gimpiest of the 3 in my opinion. Try to get a static party setup for doing it so people don't complain.

a static party setup would only work if your static party had a bard ^_^. i don't know many that do...in fact, i only know 2 bards 50+ on my entire server. as far as getting erase goes, after getting it for my group's whm, she has casted it...twice, once out of necessity (rasp effect which didn't wear off after battle ended) and the other time was to shut another whm up. he was talking shit about how he was a superior white mage...so she casted it and he prompty shut up. i'm sure she probably used it more times when i'm not around, but to be honest, the statuses it clears up wears off fairly quickly (bubble shower or whatever) and is used often by the mob so why erase it if you're gonna get hit again in 5 seconds? not to mention having to erase 2 or 3 people. white mages have enough to worry about healing to have to worry about erasing 2 or 3 people every few seconds.

now i'm sure later on, erase is gonna be invaluable for horrible status effects like the max mp down or whatever, but thats not til much later. from 40 to even late 50s, don't worry too much about erase. i'm thinking about getting it though so when i hit 64, i might put it to good use so our whm doesn't have to. it'll give me something to do in between nukes. pre-60, the money is probably better spent on stuff like light and dark staff (erase is roughly 1/2 to 3/4 of one of these) and spells like raise II. for some reason it has jumped from 5-7k to 30k+ on my server...

Price of Erase is going up in my server. I have been in BCNM40 and we did 6 tries. 6 of them didn't have Erase. I will soon mobilize my LS's lazy arse to constant challenge the mandras till we got our copy of Erase.

My friend is 64, still doesn't have erase.

We did our first bcnm 40 and it dropped stright for me. Then we made it 6 more times and got 5 more scrolls.
