I bought both of the new skills. I have only tried the fletching thing out. I wasnt able to HQ the insect fletchings (still only 58 clothcraft and was on an off day, like earth day or something) and it was nice. I only used 1 stack of wind crystals but got 2 stacks (and an 18 one that i sent to a mule that holds extra stuff for me). I am going to try out the spinning tomarrow (i hope) but i am hopeful that it will be just as neat....well cause i am hoping that HQing on threads will produce more threads now...::crosses fingers::
If its anything like Lumberjack for WW, then its of greatest benefit on items where the cheif cost is the crystal. Later on when you're using much more expensive ingredients, the 1k or so for the crystal doesn't hardly even constitute a drop in the bucket. Best bet is to get feathers for cheap, then us the key item and make more fletching with less crystals. It works really well on the cheaper lumbers and logs and can turn a tiny profit.

it benefits most fletchings and you will get the same HQ then with the normal synth.

yep the HQing works for the feathers....not so much for the thread ; ;, oh well, the time and crystals saved by using the spining is still worth it imho
now the update on some recipes makes more sense for the guild items.
lets look at linen thread, the cost intensive part were lightning crystals.
now you save a lot gil making them and a lot time which is very important for me!
you can also make 3 rainbow threads now at once ^^
