Question about skipping the Silk Road?
Has anyone done this by synthing Field gear to 69? Basically....my question is...does this save you more gil? A square of silk cloth is about 15k to make on my server....and I spent 1.2mil gil getting two levels -_-.....So, does anyone know if this way of skipping the silk road is cheaper in the long run?

Re: Question about skipping the Silk Road?
O.o;;;;; Wow.... why don't you just farm the silk in Buburimu Peninsula or CN or even take them on in West Saruta.

I'm nowhere near 69 at the moment with Cloth, but that's a crap load of money to be spending just to get a few measly levels. Farming is slower but it's cheaper at least. nn;

Re: Question about skipping the Silk Road?
I did it with Black Chocobo fletchings. Field gear is too expensive of a loss to risk, IMO. Black Chocobo fletchings are cheap to buy, cheap to make, and the loss is pretty much negligable.

Haven't skilled up in a long while, but I belive it can be done from 65-72.

Re: Question about skipping the Silk Road?
If you're using advanced support, it'll work from 64-72. 20K or so for 6 attempts > silk hell.

Of course, then you're looking at the joys of spider webs...or something.

You can mix battle bracers in there, too- that's only three threads per bracer for silk, and cotton is a lot easier to come by. I just usually walked right outside of Windurst with a Thief job and started whacking crawlers and Stealing cotton off the Mandragoras there.

If you have the goldsmithing skill, check gold thread to 58. May be you find some profit there.

Re: Question about skipping the Silk Road?
i done the blkack fletchings with 61.3 (sure, to get so fas from 53 it is hell..) ^^
fletchings was a lot cheaper then all others
with advanced, windsday + full moon it should work. it took me about 40 synth per level
you can get 2 skill ups on windsday (adv synth supp)
at 63 i crafted on lighsday (adv synth supp)
at 65 i lokked at the day and stopped crafting on darks or iceday.
at 67 i went without synth support till 72

Re: Question about skipping the Silk Road?
Look into hunters cotton. On my server it is one third the cost of green ribbons, if you can make your own caprece powders. If you buy your powders it is still hella cheaper.

Personally I do not plan to take Clothcraft past 60 at this moment but what I did were.

Hunter's Cotton

from 53 - 60(63)
http://www.ffrecipe.com/recipeDetails.php?rid=2605
I had my clothcraft glasses for +1 skill and Adv. support adds another +3 virtual skill to that so you synth with a 6 skill gap only when you first start out (63-(53+1+3)) = 6.

So I personally I advice to get your Guild Point items turned in to scrounge up for the glasses once you are around 50 in skill.

This is a lot cheaper then blowing up a Silk cloth per synth and will take you all the way to 63 instead of just 62 on Green Ribbons.

Only material that is hard to come by is Carapace Powder really but just get beetle shells and synth the powders yourself and you should wind up with a cost of around 1000 - 4500 gil per synth depending on server economy and availability of materials.

Basically impossible to sell these at the AH though but the cost/synth is fairly low so just take your losses at the nearest NPC in a town you have high fame (you get 100-300 gil or something like that from NPCs).
And if I were to continue past 60 I would personally have chosen these options.

Silk Headbands

from 63-69
http://www.ffrecipe.com/recipeDetails.php?rid=663
Depending on server economy this may be cheaper then to start out at Black Chocobo Fletchings early, most servers seem to have a drop in silk prices recently and carbon fiber is usually not too expensive to buy off AH or the guild NPC.

The cost per synth will be around 5000 - 15000 gil per synth depending on server economy and availability of materials. These items will sell decently on AH but if you synth in bulk I recommend to cut your losses and just unload on the nearest NPC (once again in a town in which you have high fame).

Black Chocobo Fletchlings

from 69-72

http://www.ffrecipe.com/recipeDetails.php?rid=1343
All materials are from NPC, if you're serious about crafting I recommend a mule with citizenship in each of the starter cities as well to always have access to the feathers.

The cost per synth if you can aquite all materials from NPC shops will be a maximum of 2750 gil + cost of crystals. These fletchlings sell fairly well in Jeuno as well as in San d'Oria at about break-even or slight profit most of the time (unless a powercrafter decide to unload their powerlevelling goods fast).

Might take a while to sell everything off but you will be able to recoup most of your investments in one go.
After 72 I havn't looked much at options sadly but I do recommend you to browse around in FFRecipe (http://www.ffrecipe.com/) since their database is huge asset to any crafter.

Keep in mind, sig might be outdated I just update it a few times per week.
Signature with the usual levels and obtained stuff etc. . .

Re: Question about skipping the Silk Road?
I finally reach this point... my cloth is 52 from insect fletching. I'm going to farm bubu until I got my cloth to 53 making silk cloth >< I hope 1 skill won't take me too long.

Hunter's cotton looks good... way better than my originally planned green ribbons. I guess I'll start stocking up ingradiants until I got my weaving gloves. or um glasses? I'm working on woodworking's apron right now.
